Chapter 55-Raya's Condition

Raya's POV.

I had no escape. Obviously, the Luna must have planned everything all along. She must have provoked Kairo in some way while Cassius dared believe her. What the heck is happening? Did I lose my way? However, maybe it was all my fault all along. I shouldn’t have trusted the Luna, not with the fact that I know nothing about her. I gambled a lot and lost all my plans.. everything went downhill, and I knew I had no one else to blame other than myself. Maybe, if only I just picked up some signals, I wouldn't have stepped on the trap.

Oh my fucking God, I can't keep on overthinking everything. Besides, it's all here, now. No turning back. At some point, the Luna would probably think of her next step now. I finally see how dangerous she can be. I weighed all my options. Either get sucked into her scheme or make my own ones that would contradict her. Either let the fear conquer it all and eat me alive or fight for my life and do what I can for a moment. Also, may I use some help?

Right now, I've got people beside me. Of course, they'll surely take my side because they owe me a favor. I saved their kid, and they're probably thanking me right now endlessly. We entered a room, and it was vibrant. I could see the neat wall and white furniture, and it was all equipped in a pastel. I can't believe I was inside a room this beautiful. I can even feel how my heart raises its beat as soon as I enter and how my eyes start tantalizing; what can even be more gorgeous than this? We walked through a big long hall first before arriving here.

There I saw multiple patients lining up to be taken care of, but hopefully, I was prioritized. I wonder how these people would react knowing they were delayed because of me. It must have been cruel. Judging from here, I knew there was an accident. It probably took place near us that caused these patients to have themselves treated right now. I saw blood, tons of it. I think I could even fill a whole tub of blood right now.

Some were injured and lost either their hands or maybe their foot. It was helpless. Crushed to the bones, I wonder how they'll live their entire remaining years again. I just wonder how their struggle would be. Also, it occurred to me that I should be grateful I wasn't killed. Kairo and Cassius had all the right to kill me a while ago, but they didn't. They could have put me on a spell, killed me by their hand, maybe put me into torture, but they didn't. I guess the luck was still in me. This is a disastrous place. This is why I was not too fond of the infirmary. I wouldn't say I like the smell of medicine, even the natural one. I didn't particularly appreciate how lights here seemed to be so bright it could blind me. I hate everything here, and I can't afford to stay here. I don’t want to see dead bodies before my eyes.

I would only overthink their backstories, thinking they could have lived a very beautiful and vibrant life if only they were alive. It pains me to think that they must have left their family sad and left the world without fulfilling their missions; I hate to think., they must have felt lonely.

"Are you okay?" Eloise asked me, breaking off the silence. "Well, you should. Not everyone has the same privilege as you to be treated here. Do you even know how luxurious this is?" Eloise said and pointed out some medicine on the table. "Every single person here was dying to get their hands on this; bet you don't know that?" she asked again, which made me feel confused. A pill, why would everyone like to have that pill? What does it do? Cure every illness you have? Give you immortality? Grant you all the gracefulness the world could offer. Just as what is the deal? I twitched to feel a pain in my neck. I thought it finally stopped getting more painful, but it turns out it just became worse. I can't move with such a wound. I have to get it treated and dried out right now, or it'll cause a huge inconvenience for me. This is getting worse.

The pain felt like it was traveling. It was supposed to be centered on my neck alone, but it seemed like my heart’s been aching, which gave me a sharp pain in my chest. Not to mention the back pain and the soreness I got after saving that kid and shielding my body from that flying ceramic plate.

I did not sign up for any of this. I badly wanted just to rest. You know what? The rest where I couldn't think of anything but myself. The one where I no longer have to worry about everything, such as the cruelty, the pain, Kairo, and Cassius. I wanted to take a nice long break, far from all my problems. And even if it means being taken away from him.. my mate. I would gladly do so just so I no longer have to suffer. I wouldn't say I liked it here. I hated how everyone thought that they could use women to do whatever they wanted.

I hated the betrayal, I have grown to hate everything. "Why would everyone get the obsession with that tiny thing?" I said, almost spitting out some blood. Eloise helped me to lie down and made sure I wasn't struggling. Although, I was. Still, thanks, though.

“As you know, wolves invented this to prolong life and cure many illnesses. Fortunately, those people who offered you help were the only ones to have formulated things like this. You are currently being saved by big-time people, Ray!" Eloise said with a hint of pure excitement.

Although, I never really fully get her. Sure, it can cure a lot. Better than a miracle, yeah. But, it will only cause an imbalance in the world. People will start getting in line to receive this thing, and this family will eventually rule the pack. This would cause confusion between the alpha and them, and they sure are in trouble. Does Kairo even know about this stuff? Bet he should know.

"Yeah? Sure, whatever," I said and closed my eyes. The excitement in her instantly faded. Did I ruin the moment? Pity. I felt my blood running out. Little by little, it was eating me inside. I can't keep on being like this. Should I consume the pill myself? For God's sake. I guess I should start believing them right now and save myself. My pride and ego would end up killing me anyway.

"Can you hand that pill to me?" I asked. I held the wound and felt it throbbing. It was like some monster was preparing to get out of the injured part. It was like, they were partying inside and were preparing to escape. Jesus Christ, harder than I thought it would be. "Come again? This pill? Hell no!" she shouted. I opened my eyes and saw her shaking her head multiple times as she had her palms shown in front of me. It was as if she was avoiding the inevitable.

My forehead creased as I looked at her. "I am dying, and I need that. What do you mean, no? You are refusing to save me, are you? You sure have plans on killing me, right?' I said and laughed. "No. It's just that it was believed to have side effects on you. You could have died drinking it with the shock, be granted immortality, or fall comatose," she said. It's not that scary, actually.

However, I knew I had to fight or else just accept the fate of dying. "It does not scare me anyway. All I have to do is live. Why would I choose the hard way?" I asked and laughed. The door to the room opened, and I saw the woman with the kid by her side. It was refreshing to see the child I saved; surely, I was so unlikely to fancy a child that much. What the hell is happening to me? "Let's examine you," The woman said and put on a white coat.

She surely looked more like a doctor now, not some normal citizen. "Should I have Eloise step out of the room or something?" I asked and closed my eyes again, lying down softly. The sheets felt a lot more comfortable now. The warm comforter really adds up to my desire to rest. Oh god, what more to ask to have this beautiful bedroom and perfect lifestyle? "Yeah. Could you please step out for a moment, Miss Eloise? Having you here with us while I examine the woman is not quite right. Also, we need private time," she said, which made Eloise fall into confusion.

"What? But you brought your son here! Don't you think he'll add to my friend's stress?" she said. "Well, if you would like, you can also bring him out. I think it would be cool for my baby, right?" she said and asked her son. The kid nodded. Aw... but I don't want him out of my sight! Eloise couldn’t do anything but follow. She carries the child into her arms and immediately goes out. She dropped the door hard as if she was really mad. Hmmm.

"Let's start now, shall we?" she asked me. I just nodded since, I think, I could no longer talk. "Alright, let's get it straight to the point. Allow me to see your wound, and please face the opposite side of your head where you feel comfortable," She said and asked me to follow her. I knew it would be best to follow, so I did. I turned my head to the comfortable side and groaned in pain.

The wound felt stretched out, and I couldn't help but to shed tears no more. Every time I moved, I felt like it was becoming bigger and bigger, something that scared me the most. I guess nothing is scarier than having an open cut and actually feeling it gets stretched out minute by minute. "Hmm.. that's pretty bad. You've done this before?" She asked professionally.

It seemed like she saw something strange behind the wound, probably the scar. She seemed to have known a lot. No wonder she had formulated that piece of a drug. A genius, I might say. Maybe the boy would turn out to be just like her. "You guessed it right," I questioned her and laughed. "Well, yeah. I've done that before with the same person," I muttered. I heard her laugh and stopped checking on me. She pulled out a chair and sat on it, "Aaw, that's harsh!" She said.

She pulled out something like an electronic to see how deep it would take to clean this cut. She seemed shocked, and it must have been so deep that she had to stop moving. I just wish this won't get infected. Otherwise, I would kill Cassius myself.

"Hmmm.. it'll take months to heal. The cut was serious, and pretty deep. You want to take this?" she asked and showed me the pill I was dying to drink. "Hell, yeah!" I shouted. As soon as I got a hold of the pill, she eventually took it away from me. Selfish. "Nah.. not now. I have to see everything first. I'll just give you the most basic one, don't worry, and it won't hurt," she smiled. Annoying. She took a knife, thread, and needle. Maybe she’ll stitch it up? She also had anesthesia, hmm. I see how it is. She put out the injection and inserted it into the most fatal part. It felt like an ant bit me to hell; all I could do was wrap my hand around the bed sheet and grit my teeth.

Other than that, what am I supposed to do? She started to stitch it up now using a long needle. It was numb, and it didn't really ache that much. "Actually, I have two children," She started. Storytelling, huh? "One son, one daughter. My youngest was a girl, one-year-old. She's always been isolated, far from everyone. We all have the fear that someday, she'll eventually be picked by a wolf and become a mate. I am scared," she said. I just listened.

I felt like I was obligated to do so. "She was a very fine kid. She has beautiful eyes and claws and the features of a gorgeous lady by the time she matured," she recalled while stitching me up. "But we wouldn't dare show her the world. It was just too cruel, and she can't take it," she said. "The child was one year old. Why would you decide what happened to her? It's not like you've seen the future. Also, that kid must have wanted to see the world, and she doesn't deserve to be locked up," I muttered.

"No.. because if we expose her identity, others will pick an interest in her," she said. "But you're once a mate, aren't you? Don't you want your child to experience love? Don't you want her to be able to build a family of her own? You wanted her to be all yours? How selfish and cruel can you be?" I asked. I’m not too fond of her view of the world, but she is also logical. As a mother, she only wants what's best for the child. I don't know. Her version of best doesn't sit right with me.

"That’s my point. I don't want her to walk the same path I walked," she said and stopped to lock the stitch. "I don't want her to suffer the way I did," she smiled at me. I held the wound and realized it was now locked. No hint of an opening; it is all sorted out. It still gave me a pain in the butt, but it's clear that it shouldn't be bothersome now. I stood up from the bed and smiled back at her. I can go back now. "Can I drink that now?" I asked.

She pulled out a glass of water and gave me the pill. "I guess you're fine now. You should have it," she offered. But.. Just as before, I could drink it. I dropped the glass. My stomach hurt like crazy. I felt like I was being eaten on the inside. I kneeled on the floor to the point where I did not bother to dodge all the pieces of glass scattered around, which gave me injuries again.

I held the woman's hands and asked her for help. I felt like she was terrified. She quickly picked me up from the floor and helped me lie down again. The pain was driving me crazy, and I had to curl out my body to figure out how to stop it. The woman immediately grabbed the electronics and ensured I would be okay. She pulled out some tv or something and started examining. "Come on, stay still!" she ordered me around. My stomach felt like it was tearing apart, and I didn't know what else to do other than embrace myself like I was in a cocoon.

"Raya," she whispered and dropped the remote. "Is there any chance that you are pregnant?
