Chapter 49-Cursed She

They were burning stares, cold sweats. Trembling feet, blank mind. What could make it worse? Why did I feel like the center of attraction of this event were not the celebrant but me rather? Oh, my glory heaven and earth, how many times do I have to reject Kairo? Of course, I felt like my body somewhat reacted to the way Kairo defended me earlier.

I must have picked up an interest in him again because he's somewhat the only man to stand up for me like that. Well, maybe because of the truth that he had powers and held the highest position a wolf could take.

Why am I making it a big deal? My feet felt sore, and I couldn't get used to the feeling of stepping on some high shoes. The pointed part that made it look four to five inches long was too hard to bear. My toenails could no longer breathe and can't hold themselves together. I felt like my fingers were slowly tearing apart, and my mind was getting more and more scared of what I would become.

It was too cold here, but I figured the coat would really help. I wanted to feel at least a little warmer than shrugging off my shoulders with the icy wind and the freezing atmosphere. Everyone must have known me.. not from being Cassius' mate but from being Kairo's woman of the past. I guess they're judging me, right? A few seconds after I finally found my seat, I see Eloise walking in her beautiful dress. I thought Kairo would never send her an invitation, after all, he hated her and punished her for her wrong deeds—I never would have thought she'll show up to the alpha's birthday party.

She had her cleavage exposed at this point. However, her dress had sleeves that went all the way from her shoulders up to her wrist—wearing some minimal jewelry that somewhat reflected the lights. She's like a dangling piece of diamond walking up to me. Every single person she walked past by was amazed at her beauty.

However, they also looked at each other and took their time turning and gossiping about her multiple times. These bitches can really get on my nerves. "Hey," I whispered into the thin air as Eloise sat in front of me. "Oh, hi," she said as she smiled at me. "Waiting for someone?" she asked, pulling out a chair and sitting on it. A waiter offered her some help with the chair thingy, but she refused. I guess my Eloise had slowly become more independent as days passed. I wish she could always stay like that. I took my time, put my hands on the table, and leaned my chin on it.

"No, I came here alone and hoping for some interactions with my mate," I said and gulped the wine that was silently sitting in front of me. I guess I can't help the loneliness I am feeling. I badly want to get even a small glimpse of him or even his shadow. It is not a good excuse to say that he's been busy for a couple of days and forgot to visit or even look for me.

Did he even care? Maybe if news spread about me being possibly pregnant, he would give a damn. However, it is just a possibility. "Pathetic," Eloise said as she mocked me and drank her wine as well. The sparkling color of the champagne glass makes me want to smile. The drink perfectly resembles Eloise. "Why are you even finding Cassius when you yourself can find someone else?" Eloise said and pointed to all the boys lined up, walking straight from the outside. They were all masculine and screamed expensive. The way they walked made me think that they were all hit-and-run kind of guys, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Looks like you've found your own scapegoat," she said, making an inside joke. Which I personally don't find funny at all. After minutes of waiting, I figured maybe I should try and approach someone rather than staying in my seat, looking like a lost puppy.

However, just before I could stand up, Eloise went snickering around, grabbed my wrist, and stopped me from moving. "Where are you headed to?" she asked curiously with those innocent eyes. "I want to come to," she requested and squeezed out my hands, preventing me from leaving her behind. I can't deny the fact that Eloise can easily get what she wants with her beauty, but it'll never work with me. That privilege of hers only works on the naive. "The bathroom?" I said, and of course, I was lying to her. When in fact, I was hoping that I could spot Kairo here. I need to ask him the whereabouts of his brother right now rather than waiting for a miracle.

"Hmmm?" she moaned, looking like she didn't believe me.

"I thought, after that night of being railed," Eloise said, that captured my attention. My ears had been flapping on each other after hearing her words as my heart beat faster. I could hear it throbbing so hard, and the sound was too loud; it almost deaf me. I definitely can't sense anybody but Eloise. She knew something about that night. Therefore, it was not a dream?! I am not delusional, I am not hallucinating. Something definitely happened, and I was literally robbed of my virginity. Could it be that she also knew who the man was? "What are you talking about?" I asked and stared at her. My eyes landed on her hands, which were now tightening their grip on my arms. I knew she knew something. Why else would she bring it up if she doesn't? Just what did she see and hear that night?

"Huh? You were taken away from me minutes before I completely passed out. I heard a man saying, "Let's get you home" And you left with him," she muttered, trying so hard to think of everything. "Oh no.. maybe you shuffled the details? There is no way someone would do that to me," I said and shrugged off. "Uhmm, I beg to disagree with that. I clearly see you in his arms as he walks away, carrying you. Can't you remember anything?" Eloise said and questioned my capacity to memorize or remember things. Is she getting suspicious? What would happen if she thought that I slept with a man I don't know? Or worse, a man I couldn't even recall the face.

"Hahaha!," My awkward laugh echoed across the room, capturing her and the other guests' attention. "No, of course. Hahaha," I awkwardly said, which made Eloise's face drawn out in confusion. "It was a fun night. Silly me," I said, wiping off the fake tears from my eyes. I can't breathe. I released Eloise's hands and brushed my dress. I took my purse out of the table and faced my back. "Gotta go to the restroom," I said and bid her goodbye.

"Raya was— “ Eloise started. I tripped on the ground just before I could walk away, startling Eloise. She cut through her words and sounded so worried. I found myself sitting on the floor with my heels broken. Such a shameful event! My face heated up as embarrassment overfilled me. A man, a waiter rather, was about to apologize for the inconvenience when…

"I am so sorry—“

I felt something liquid poured all over my body. I knew my dress was soaking wet, and a glass of wine was bathed on my body. WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THIS DAY?

"Oh my!" Eloise screamed and brought me tissues as she wiped off my dress. She reminded me of the time she pushed me into the mud. But this time, she was not mocking me but helping me. "I am deeply sorry, ma'am. I didn't mean to soak you in wine," The waiter said, almost crying. I looked at myself and realized how messy I was right now. I look like complete trash. Eloise lends me a hand and is about to help me up when a familiar voice overlaps my thoughts.

"Raya," she said in a soft tone. "Are you alright?" I was startled. My mouth was lost for words; I couldn't seem to find the right letters to spout and the appropriate phrases to speak. I felt like heaven's trumpet was playing in the background. The angels singing for me and the clouds embracing me. The warm feeling was too overwhelming. I couldn't even believe my eyes; it seemed like my consciousness was fooling around.

Yereah, the Luna, looked up to me and actually asked me if I was fine. Can I return the favor and also ask?
