Lana's POV

The pain that I was feeling around my body was excruciating. Blood flowed from my skin relentlessly, and I was beginning to lose too much. Even if I got medical attention at this point, it would probably be too late, and I would need months of recovery before I'm back to my old self.

I was getting a strange sensation around my body that made the pain more amplified. Even in areas where I was not cut yet, I felt deep pain, and it worried me. I had already lost the strength to scream, so I was silent as I bore the pain.

I was beginning to feel so much pain around myself that I suspected something about the specialist. There was a good chance he coated all his torture tools with a special type of poison that amplifies pain. Oh, how I wanted to be put out of this agony, either by him especially stopping and administering medical attention to me or probably even dying.

But I would need to continue to bear this pain so that Elena and her child could continue to live happily.

I was never going to allow a young, innocent child to be sacrificed in my place. I could not think of too many things that I had done that I considered wrong in my life, but even at that, I knew a young baby that was yet to be born was far more innocent than myself.

Eventually, this specialist made his way to my fingernails, and I screamed with all the strength I had. It seemed that was the trigger to finally make Elena drink the abortion drug.

She didn't wait a second after the knife was shoved into my fingernail before removing the cork and gulping the contents down.

I wanted to tell her how foolish what she had just done was, but I lacked the energy to do so. I had used basically all of my strength to scream just now, and I hardly had the strength to move around. If not for the excruciating pain I was feeling throughout my body, I probably would have fallen asleep. But if I were to fall asleep in a situation where I was losing so much blood, I would probably not wake up.

I heard clapping sounds from outside. The next moment, I saw Alpha Derrick walk inside with a smile across his face.

"Alfred, you have really outdone yourself now. Initially, I didn't expect Elena to cave in to the pressure. What can I say? You are really good at what you do. Here's a tip," he said as he tossed over a piece of paper to Alfred.

I didn't see what was written on it, but I had a feeling it was a check.

Alfred took the check and put it in his wallet before slowly rearranging his tools and keeping them in a special bag. Although I was happy that I was no longer being tortured, I was not happy that Elena had just taken a special drug.

"Not too long now, that baby will be out of your womb. If you pull through eventually, and not too long from now, maybe in a few days, you won't have a reason to fight me anymore. If only you had not fought me earlier, I may not have had to resort to this," Alpha Derrick said and looked in my direction.

Elena said nothing but had a hateful look on her face. And her eyes began to dim. Before anyone could react, Elena suddenly slumped and fell down unconscious.

This surprised everyone, including Alpha Derrick, who had provided her with the drug she had just taken. A look of surprise and shock was on his face, and I could tell that he had not bargained for this. Whether he was duped or tricked by whoever gave him the drug, I couldn't tell.

Panicking, Alpha Derrick quickly rushed into Elena's cell as he carried her unconscious body and shook it. It was gentle shaking at first, but it became more and more violent. He touched the veins of her neck and realized that her pulse was weak.

"What the hell is this?" Alpha Derrick shouted in anger and frustration. "Why is her pulse so weak? It's almost as if she's about to die. All I did was give her the medicine that apothecary made for me. What should have happened is simply her losing her baby. I may not have much experience in medicine, but this doesn't look like the results of an ordinary abortion medicine to me!" Alpha Derrick thundered in rage and confusion.

Everyone around stared at him, not knowing what to say. The guards just simply looked around, wondering what was going on. The whole thing was a complete mystery because it was unlikely Alpha Derrick would allow a quack or someone with low qualifications to handle something of so much importance to him.

Myself, on the other hand, although I did not have much energy, I was brainstorming possible reasons as to why Elena was currently unconscious and near death. Could it be that the abortion medicine was laced with something? As such a thought crossed my mind, I began to fear and become panicked for Elena. What if after all this, Elena just lost her life and nothing was accomplished in the end?

The thought of losing Elena brought tears to my eyes, and they began to flow uncontrollably. I tried to put everything behind me as though it were some sort of nightmare. But no matter how tightly I closed my eyes, nothing went away, and everything remained a reality. Suddenly, the pain I was feeling over my body became secondary. After all, if Elena were to die, that would be truly grievous.

Alpha Derrick's eyes suddenly became blood red with anger. "Just when I thought I had found someone who could put a bit of light in my life, such a thing has to happen. Get me the apothecary!" he thundered in anger.

All the guards around simply shook in fear and terror of Alpha Derrick.

"That won't be necessary, Derrick. You may be unaware as to why Elena is currently unconscious, but I am aware. She is unconscious because of my intervention," I heard Edwina's voice say out of nowhere.

Her voice startled everyone, and they turned to look at her. Her entrance was so sudden that she took even Alpha Derrick by surprise. His eyes grew wide as he stared at her, shocked.

"Edwina, what are you doing here? I thought you were going to go back to the pack and review your likely prospects. For all I knew, you had left here long ago. So why is it that you are standing here telling me you know why Elena is unconscious?" Alpha Derrick asked.

"Well, I did want to go back, but after thinking about it for a long period of time, I decided against it. If I were to go back and I were to be seen by even one of Lucian's men without a proper explanation, I'd be executed on the spot. We both know that such a move would be foolish. Lucian's not telling Lucian yet. So I simply decided that I would remain here for the time being. Lucian is bound to attack you soon. So get your men ready to fight him. If he comes here when you are not on your guard, then the lot of you will be massacred, and you will be killed by Lucian himself," Edwina said nonchalantly.

"Edwina, I have a serious question to ask you. Forget about Lucian attacking us. Why is Elena currently unconscious, and why is her pulse so weak?" Alpha Derrick asked, staring at Edwina with suspicion.

"Well, you see, the poison, or should I say the drug you gave her, was laced with something. When you went to your little apothecary to give you a drug that would make Elena lose her pregnancy, I was there. I had been expecting you to make such a move, and this was the perfect opportunity. You remember when you left the room to attend to something? That was when I snuck in a poison I had bought earlier. I put it in one of the ingredients, and when the overall drug was made, it was already destined to kill Elena. So the drug Elena drank a few minutes ago was not an abortion medicine but poison," Edwina said without any remorse.

Alpha Derrick's eyes suddenly grew red with realization, and his hands began to shake. I couldn't tell if his eyes were growing wet from sadness because of my partial line of sight.

But at this current moment, I couldn't afford to be worried about Alpha Derrick because the pain of losing Elena struck me hard. After everything, Edwina had actually succeeded in getting rid of Elena. She had snuck in poison, and now Elena was going to die, and so was her little child. All the sacrifice, all the time, and all the feelings shared would all go to waste because Edwina was so jealous. At that moment, I hated Edwina more than I had ever hated anything in my life. And it seemed as though Alpha Derrick shared the same sentiment.

He carefully dropped Elena quite tenderly and softly. He placed what seemed to be a caring kiss on her forehead before getting up. He stood on both feet, and his eyes were blood red. A unique aura began to surround him, and his claws began to come out.

"Derrick, what are you doing?" Edwina asked as fear began to grip her. She had not expected something like this, and she was about to get a run for her money.

"I told you before not to touch Elena, but for some reason, you directly disobeyed me, and now see what you have done. If Lucian were to find out, he would kill you, but I will take that pleasure from him and kill you myself," Alpha Derrick said and began to approach Edwina.

Although Edwina was my sister, I was actually enthusiastic about the notion of Alpha Derrick putting an end to her. She had done too much damage, and I was fed up. It was about time her evil existence was removed from the Earth.

"Derrick, you caused this yourself. When I told you to get rid of Elena, you simply refused after taking my money. Not only did you do that, you did it without a care in the world or even refunding my money back to me. I took matters into my own hands, and we can say we are even," Edwina said desperately.

"Maybe we are even to you, but we are not even to me. I am about to make us even," Alpha Derrick said and raised his hand to strike Edwina's face and kill her.

But in the next moment, a powerful punch sent Alpha Derrick flying to the nearest wall.
