Chapter 89

Chapter 89
The moment the door slammed shut behind them, a suffocating silence took over. Emilia could barely breathe. Her fingers were clenched around Lucien’s arm, trembling—not from fear, but from anticipation. They had walked straight into the lion’s den. And the lion was waiting.

The chandelier above them flickered as if sensing the tension in the air. The hall, opulent as always, now seemed menacing—every glint of gold laced with danger. Damian stood at the center, calm, collected… and deadly.

“You made it,” he said, his voice echoing through the high ceilings.

Lucien stepped forward. “Drop the theatrics. We both know why we’re here.”

Damian’s smile widened. “Do we? Because last I checked, you were still trying to play knight in shining armor. Tell me, Lucien, how far are you willing to go for her?”

“Far enough to destroy everything you’ve built.”

That made Damian laugh. “Everything I’ve built? You think this is about some petty company rivalry? This is legacy, blood, history. And she—” he turned to Emilia, his eyes narrowing—“she was never meant to be yours.”

Emilia met his gaze, refusing to flinch. “I was never yours to control either.”

A muscle ticked in Damian’s jaw. For the first time, a crack in his composed mask. “You think love makes you powerful? It makes you weak.”

Lucien moved closer. “Funny. I was never stronger until I had something worth protecting.”

The standoff was charged with electricity. But before anyone could move, a side door burst open—and in rushed two guards, dragging someone between them.

Emilia’s heart stopped. “Nathan?!”

Nathan looked bruised but alive, his eyes locking onto hers. “Emilia—don’t listen to anything he says. He’s lying!”

“Shut him up,” Damian barked. One guard raised a taser.

“No!” Emilia stepped forward, but Lucien pulled her back.

“We do this my way,” he whispered.

And then, everything erupted.

Lucien lunged toward Damian just as Emilia darted to Nathan. The guards scrambled, one tackling Lucien, the other grabbing Emilia. Nathan kicked out, managing to land a hit that sent his guard reeling.

Emilia snatched the guard’s dropped taser and jabbed it into his side. He convulsed and dropped. She fell to her knees beside Nathan, trying to untie his bindings.

Lucien was holding his own, but barely. Damian fought with precision—no wasted movement, all lethal intent. But Lucien had rage on his side. And love.

The fight pushed toward the edge of the balcony that overlooked the grand foyer. One wrong step…

Nathan finally broke free, and Emilia helped him up. “We need to help Lucien.”

“Go to the vault,” Nathan said breathlessly. “Everything that can end this—it’s there. The documents. The footage. The proof.”

She hesitated. “I’m not leaving him.”

“He’s buying us time. Don’t waste it!”

Lucien had pinned Damian, punching relentlessly, but Damian’s hand crept toward something at his belt.

Gun.

Emilia screamed, “Lucien!”

He turned—just in time to dodge as the shot rang out. The bullet shattered a window.

Lucien kicked the gun away, sending it clattering down the stairs. But the distraction cost him. Damian shoved him backward—toward the edge.

Emilia didn’t think. She ran.

Lucien’s foot slipped.

She dove, grabbing his hand just as he toppled over the railing.

And for one terrifying moment—they both hung there.

Damian stepped forward, smirking. “End of the line.”

But Nathan was already there. With a roar, he slammed into Damian from behind. The two tumbled across the floor in a brutal scuffle.

Emilia strained, her arms shaking as she held onto Lucien. “Don’t let go!”

“I won’t,” he gasped, his grip tightening around her wrist.

She summoned everything she had and pulled—screaming through the effort—until he was over the edge, safe, collapsed in her arms.

The gun was closer now, spinning where it had landed.

Damian rose to his feet, blood dripping from his mouth. He made a move for it.

Lucien saw it at the same time. “No—!”

But it wasn’t Damian who reached the weapon.

It was Emilia.

She grabbed the gun and pointed it, hands steady.

Damian froze. For the first time, uncertainty flickered in his eyes.

“Don’t test me,” Emilia said coldly.

Lucien stood slowly, supporting her. “It’s over, Damian.”

But Damian only smiled. “It’s never over.”

The sound of sirens wailed in the distance. Police. Reinforcements. The endgame.

Damian’s expression twisted. “You have no idea what you’ve just unleashed.”

And then—before either of them could stop him—he threw something to the ground.

Smoke erupted.

A flash grenade.

“Emilia!”

Lucien grabbed her, shielding her with his body as chaos erupted around them.

When the smoke cleared—Damian was gone.
