Before I can take another step toward Selene, fingers wrap themselves around my wrist and pull me backward only for Father to lunge at the two guards protecting Selene while I’m been forced to run away.
I don’t want to run, I don’t want to run away from her.
I force my wrist away, causing Nadine to stare back at me with shock and confusion.
“I cannot run away, I’m not a coward,” I say before turning back. We are already at the stairs, there is chaos everywhere in the pack, even though we manage to run downstairs, we will still have to fight the Blue Moon’s pack downstairs.
“Goodness, Cierra do you not understand the situation?” Nadine yells in frustration, veins popping from the side of her forehead to her neck.
“I do which is why I cannot run, if we can fight and win her, the others will bow, just like James-“
“This is not the Blue Moon pack Cierra, these men here are not just with the Robertson’s they are also from the government, Can you see what you are holding? That is what they want, they already have the key to the vault, The next item they want is you, to drain your blood and kill you Cierra, you think beating Selene would get Xander to return to you. Get off it Cierra, if you fight now, you will die in vain,”
Nadine’s words strike a nerve within me, my heart splitting at the facts she just spilled. I would be a big coward to listen to Selene, and so I nod in agreement. She tossed me a dagger from her jacket.
“Don’t hesitate to get rid of anyone that comes your way, you must make it out of the pack alive, with or without us” Nadine states firmly, face hard as she clenches her gun and begins to fix the bullets in her gun.
“I’ll lead the way” She informed, taking one step at a time while I held on tight to the book in my left hand and the dagger in my right hand. My heart is on thin a thread, will I be able to make it out alive today? All the guards are busy fighting each other downstairs, and they are yet to notice Nadine I which is a great advantage as it has helped us climb down the stairs, however the minute we are close to the back door, a non-Crescent guard spots us, and he pulled the trigger, luckily, Nadine is faster, she pulled to the ground and dragged me to hide behind the middle counter in the kitchen while she kept targeting the guards trying to shoot us.
However, a guard manages to make his way to my side, and my heart leaps at the sight. He isn’t with a gun, but he’s mighty enough to pull me with him. I freeze on the spot unable to do anything, my whole body trembles in fear as I watch him reach out to me ready to lift me up.
“Fight Cierra, don’t hesitate” Nadine’s voice echoes behind me, kicking some sense into my head as I recalled everything she said on the stairs. I have to survive.
I tighten my trembling fingers around the dagger before pushing the guard away and getting to my feet and stabbing into his abdomen.
Both of us freezes, my body trembles more at the sight of the man before me, a knife in his stomach, blood spilling out while he slowly falls to his feet.
Did I just kill someone? I just killed someone.
Just as I am processing what I have just done, Nadine pulls me out of the kitchen and until I am out in the woods my head doesn’t stop ringing.
My knees give up on me and I fall to the ground, panting and fidgeting. Not just me but Nadine too. Who wouldn’t we literally just escaped the worst pack raiding that would ever be recorded, I highly doubt the Crescent Pack would be able to survive this raiding. Yes, the people will be protected but there will be a lot of destroyed facilities.
“We need to keep running, they can still find us here,” Nadine says as she gets to her feet but then something hits me. Gabriel is not with us.
“What about Gabriel?”
Despite all he has done, despite the fact I hate him, he is my father, It’s impossible for me to not ask if he would survive or not.
“They won’t kill him there, he will be taken captive, just as Xander, that will be our key to getting to them” Nadine explains.
“We’ve planned it all, thanks to Elizabeth. This is not the right time to tell you but she’s dead now, that was our clue to get to the pack and save you”
Her words slice my heart into two. It’s impossible. Elizabeth cannot be dead. I shake my head continuously, tears slipping down my cheeks.
“You have to be strong, for Xander, if we manage to get out of this but he loses you, he won’t ever forgive himself so right now we have to kick off with the next plan”
