148 Alpha Cornelius
As the doctor hurried into the room to see Nate, Kamara stayed immobilized. Is it delirious following the trauma? Or was Nate actually aware of who had taken his kids hostage? Her body tensed as her heart pounded in her chest. Kamara was too nervous to say anything.
Her heart was only slightly relieved to know that Nate was alright. Gazing at him, pallid and terrified, she attempted to visualize the risk he had gone through in the days he was absent. Before, Nate and Ed had become stuck in a hole and he had almost perished trying to save her. He was now seriously hurt and on the verge of death in his attempt to find out who was involved in the kidnapping the children. Really, Nate was her hero.
The doctor remarked, "Your quick recovery is quite surprising," but Nate gave him a disinterested expression as if he didn't comprehend. "I thought it would be days before I saw you awake again."
Nate turned his head at that moment, his terrified eyes meeting Kamara's. A chill scuttled her back. Nate held secrets he was no longer able to handle.
"How is Nate doing?" Though Kamara knew she could question Nate directly, she asked the doctor nevertheless.
"He's doing great! A little perplexed," the physician grinned, "his injuries are healing remarkably quickly."
Kamara gave him a smile. She could hardly move her own legs, much as she wanted to jump up and give him a hug.
"I have to let the alpha know that Nate is getting better."
With a strong grip on the doctor's arm, Nate raised his hand and stopped him in his tracks.
"It's not the right time to tell Caiden yet," Kamara and the doctor looked at him with confusion. "Let me heal completely first."
"All right," she said, not understanding.
After the doctor departed, Nate gently stood up and surveyed the space, taking in every detail before his gaze once more met Kamara's. His look was dejected and his voice was feeble as he questioned, "Where are we?"
Kamara took a deep breath. How could she respond to a question so straightforward yet had so much explanation?
"We're in the territory of the Full Moon Pack," she answered, observing a shift in Nate's attitude.
"What brings us here? And why aren't you getting up, Kamara?" He asked again.
It was clear that he had observed something peculiar regarding Kamara.
Her voice caught in her throat as she spoke, "Caiden decided to take me away from the pack. We're here to save our lives, and Enzo severely injured me."
The parts clicked into position. Nate's mind was overflowing with information. The only question he couldn't answer was why Enzo detested Kamara so intensely.
"Nate, is everything alright?" With fear, Kamara observed him. Nate had changed; he was experiencing intense distress.
Nate, though, didn't answer right away. His body jerked uncontrollably, and a thick film of sweat coated his face.
"What made you claim to know who abducted the children?"
Nate's mouth dried up and his eyes grew wide.
"Miss Kamara, are we really safe here?" The inquiry took Kamara by surprise.
Her hands trembled, "Of course, we're safe here, Nate. You're scaring me."
Nate rolled over in bed and came over to her. For some minutes, he did not say anything while holding her hands. Their anxiety just grew as a result of this.
"My goal in traveling to the human city was to ascertain who had given the order to abduct the children."
He felt the stress pressing against his chest, forcing him to pause for a short while. He closed his eyes and said, "Much more than that. I wanted to find out why Enzo despises you so much and show Caiden's innocence in the death of his parents."
Gazing at him, Kamara became aware that his unwavering resolve might drive him insane.
He hurriedly said, "Miss Kamara, I think these three things are related. But I still don't understand why."
"You still don't understand it?" Her expression betrayed her dismay.
"I only know who ordered the kidnapping of the kids."
Kamara felt her heart skip a beat. Her heart was pounding so hard she thought she would have a panic attack.
"When I was attacked, I lost the evidence." In a desperate attempt to find the written testimony, he desperately rubbed his hands over his body, but nothing was found. "I will inform Alpha Caiden, but he may not believe me this time."
Nate was startled out of his reverie and brought back to reality by her pulling on his arm. "Look over hete, Nate," she said. "Of course, Caiden will believe you. Why wouldn't he?"
However, the response was slow to arrive. Nate thought maybe the walls there had ears and could hear him right away. Nate came in closer to Kamara, going closer to her ear and whispering the truth in her ear.
"Because Jessie and Enzo were the ones who gave the order to abduct the children."
It burst like a silent explosion, sending a million pieces flying. Her heart had broken. Kamara's eyes were full with tears. An intense heat wave swept over her paralyzed body, and an overwhelming bitterness overcame her.
She was curious about all the information and the motivations behind Jessie and Enzo's kidnapping of the children.
However, time was of the essence. The visitors' chamber door opened, allowing the Alpha King to step inside. The location was taken over by guards, and Kamara was forced to pretend the reality had not destroyed her.
He introduced himself, saying, "I'm Alpha King Cornelius of the Full Moon Pack, and I'm here to welcome the guests."
Nate gave the Alpha King a nod, but he was hesitant to speak.
He pulled Nate's attention to himself by saying, "The doctor informed me about your sudden recovery, Nate, and that he doesn't want Alpha Caiden to know about it yet."
Nate nodded in silence.
"Tell me, Nate," he said as he walked toward him. "There are whispers that you were saved from a certain death by a wolf hunter named Ed. Is that accurate?"
"Yes, that is true, Alpha Cornelius."
The King felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end at Nate's remark. "Ed belongs to Alpha Caiden's pack as a hunter."
The King looked around the room, changing his expression, leaving Nate and Kamara perplexed.
