147 Finding Enzo
There was nobody remaining on the streets of the pack at midnight. The night was still but for the sound of a bar. The van was positioned in front of the main building by the informant from the Full Moon pack. Before long, Kamara was there with the children as Caiden carried her in his arms. Nate, still asleep, trailed closely following.
There wasn't much time for Caiden to mourn the departure of his family, which he detested. He gave the children a quick hug before turning to face Kamara.
He kissed her forehead and said, "Be careful and call me if you notice any danger."
"Caiden, we'll be alright."
Of course they would be. That much was certain, he thought, but how would Caiden manage without them? He had to be strong. He shut the van door, blocking his view of the boys' faces behind the opaque glass. Caiden felt bad about having to be apart from them again as the van pulled away.
The Full Moon pack felt like its own world. It was not at all like the city in which Caiden ruled supreme. The homes appeared to be lifted straight out of a fairy tale. The walls of the houses were covered in torches. The darkness was lighted by the fire, giving it an ancient, gloomy, and beautiful appearance at the same time.
Nate and Kamara were helped into their rooms by the doctor. Cornelius, the alpha king himself, honored them with a cordial greeting and appeared to be pleased to have them. In her heart, Kamara wondered why Caiden had waited until the last minute to reveal their destination. She had no idea who or where she might meet along the way.
It was early in the morning when Caiden returned to the Moon Howlers pack and gave the command for Bruno and the pack guards to go after Enzo with him. They crept over to the old, deserted house, but nobody was there.
"Sir, there's nothing here," Bruno said. "As you instructed, Enzo left the pack."
He gave the command, "Gather all the hunters of the pack. I want Enzo found and brought to me," he said.
Though Caiden wanted to give Enzo another chance, he should have caught him before all of this. The alpha desired a change, but Enzo's flight demonstrated that he understood what he was doing and was willing to pay the price.
The pack rejoiced when word of Enzo's successful departure soon spread once he made his way back to the main building. The pack would be at peace once more. However, Caiden discovered that not everyone was pleased with the news when he entered the room.
Jessie's voice reminded Caiden that not all of his issues had been handled, "We need to talk, Caiden."
"Are you here to beg for your brother again? For me to have mercy on him?" He had trouble getting in. Without having to turn around and face Jessie again, Caiden wanted to turn away.
She stated, "I don't want to beg for mercy," and when she brought up Enzo, her eyes were not dejected. "I gave him the warning you requested, and I share your amazement at his escape. Enzo promised not to run away."
"Of course, since you informed him that Kamara would be taken out of the pack."
The mood between them worsened all of a sudden. Even though Jessie knew Caiden was telling the truth, she was nevertheless shocked by her husband's claims.
Tears filled her eyes as she said, "I didn't inform him of anything. What kind of wife would I be to betray my husband?"
Caiden saw the skepticism in her expression as he glanced at her.
"And you really think I'm stupid. The fact that you paid Louis to come to my pack and take away Kamara proves that you can betray me," was what Caiden said, and it turned out to be a moment of truth.
Despite the weighty and unsettling discovery, Caiden remained silent. But Jessie did feel the weight of those words, too.
"I did it because I love you," She felt a tear fall down her cheek. "What would be your reaction if your former mate reappeared in our life and claimed that you were the father of her abducted children? I was unable to let her separate us from one another."
"And you endangered the mother of my children by doing this." At last, he raised his voice. "Jessie, I don't know if I can forgive you for betraying my trust."
"Caiden, can I also forgive you for your betrayals?" Her comments raised his temperature. "I pleaded with you to include me in your journey, but you refused. There was nothing else I could have done."
He yelled, "There's always another option, and I wasn't going on an adventure. I would have endangered your life as well if I had let you leave."
However, Caiden was aware that Jessie's absence from the kid's rescue was not the true cause. It took him pausing his speech to feel the air return to his lungs.
"Explain to me where Enzo went."
He pressed her for an explanation.
With hesitation, she said, "I have no idea. He said he would face you and die if needed, and he wouldn't run away."
"You're not telling the truth." It was obvious that their mutual trust had been destroyed. "Tell me the extent of your involvement in my children's kidnapping."
She was taken aback by the remarks. She had no idea Caiden would think she was involved in that crime. Caiden noticed that her demeanor had shifted, revealing a deeply offended woman in front of him.
"How do you think I could muster the bravery to do that?" She pouted, putting up a show. "How could I know, to the point of kidnapping them, that you had children with Kamara?"
"I'm not sure." Caiden gave her a scornful glance. "But trust me, Jessie, whatever the truth may be, I will uncover it all."
Jessie almost passed out when the alpha was no longer present. Her legs had lost all of their strength. It took her sitting down to feel her blood flow back into her body. In desperation, she closed her eyes, unsure of what to do. She no longer had Enzo to support her.
Kamara woke up in the Full Moon pack, feeling the first rays of sunlight on her skin. She opened her eyes with difficulty, and Nate was the first person she saw. Still in a deep sleep, he lay beside her. But in an instant, everything was different.
Nate sat up in bed, his eyes wide as if he had just woken up from a bad dream, sweating profusely.
"I know who is responsible for the kidnapping of the kids."
