145 Nate returns

"Is this the best solution, in your opinion?" Lisa had a serious expression on her face, and her eyes would tear up whenever she talked about this subject.

Caiden hugged her and murmured, "It's only for a short while," but his gaze was locked on the room where the doctor was examining Kamara. "I promise you, Kamara will be back."

"How will I survive without those boys, just when I was getting used to the idea of being a grandmother?" she said, dabbing at her eyes with a napkin.

She was laughed at by Caiden, who then gave his mother a tender kiss on the forehead. Still, there wasn't much to discuss or inquire about.

Even though Lisa will really miss the kids, she was the one who knew that this was the best choice Caiden had made recently.

He stated, "No one can know where Kamara is going," with a worried look on his face.

He looked closely, attempting to make sense of the story, saying, "It seems like there's more to this that you don't want to tell me. Perhaps that's why Enzo desires to harm Kamara."

With annoyance, he remarked, "Mother, I have no idea about that." Hearing Enzo's name got to Caiden's breaking point.

She added, "Jessie might know," which only made Caiden's attitude worse. "My son, you should ask her."

Caiden's face became as dark as a cloudy day. In an effort to spare his own mother, he shut his mouth and, also, his eyes.

He added, "Jessie has nothing to tell me but lies," and even Lisa was startled by the tone of his voice. "Do you really believe she has nothing to do with Kamara leaving?"

Lisa glanced at Caiden with fear, not sure what he meant. She was not acting innocently. An experienced elder, Lisa had seen and experienced things that most people would find hard to believe. Despite her strong suspicions about Jessie's reasons, her heart yearned to accept her innocence.

"Are you saying Jessie also made threats against Kamara's life?" Her expression was filled with horror.

"Mother, it's much worse than that." However, Caiden had to take a big breath and wait before proceeding. "She bought Louis's services to keep Kamara away from me."

Lisa's surprise at that revelation was evident in her wide eyes and gaping mouth.

"Have you thought about the possibility that it was just jealousy?"

Caiden found it unbearable to witness his mother justifying Jessie's horrific acts.

"Why do you stand up for her?" His eyes lingered on her, curious. "I know that you were deeply disappointed to learn that I had chosen Jessie over Kamara and that you never agreed with this marriage."

She turned away from him and said, "I don't want to be unfair. I can only imagine how challenging it must be for Jessie to know that you love someone else while being married to you."

"Mother, stop defending her." His expression hardened. "What Jessie did is unacceptable, and her behavior even leads me to believe that she was involved in the kidnapping of the children."

Lisa's words vanished from her mouth, leaving her stunned. She didn't know how to respond. However, this accusation was something to think about. In fact, anyone would draw this conclusion as a result of Jessie's behavior.

The times she vanished while Caiden was away. Sterling's unexpected dread of her. After years of attempting to conceive, she unexpectedly became pregnant, and now she is involved with Louis. Everything pointed to the possibility that Jessie was capable of carrying out such a horrible act.

However, before they could finish talking, the doctor arrived, beckoning Caiden and Lisa inside while wearing a troubled expression.

Caiden could not have imagined the suffering Kamara was in, even though she was still resting in the same posture.

He hurried in his anxiousness, "Tell me, doctor, how is Kamara?"

He got right to the issue, saying, "Her injuries are quite severe. Kamara may lose her ability to walk if she is not given the right care."

"That cannot happen." He found it hard to believe. "Kamara will get well on her own. We are werewolves."

He said, "Kamara separated from her wolf for many years. I wonder if it's safe to depend just on that."

Caiden was close to giving up. Kamara stood on the other side of the room, fighting back tears.

"Alpha, she'll be all right." Caiden met his eyes as he put a hand on his shoulder. "I can look after her if you let me."

"Kamara has got to leave the pack." With sadness, he said. "She's going to somewhere safe."

"Then, if you don't mind, I'll accompany her."

However, Caiden had grown wary of everyone, believing no one else could be trusted with Kamara's life. He wiped his palm over his face and pondered deeply. Only Caiden knew where Kamara was going, and that was how it would stay until he got over his problems with Enzo. At that moment, he sensed Kamara's hand grazing against his. He heard her plead, "Let him comy with me, Caiden" as he stared into her pained and tearful eyes. She no longer has any more strength to talk.

"Okay," he said, unable to resist her plea. "You have my trust, Doctor. Please take good care of Kamara for me.

"And how far are we heading?" The query persisted.

"You can't ask me that." He stated. "I'll trust you, and you'll have to trust me."

However, before they could finish talking, there was a sound coming from the window. There was a window beside the door that led to the small balcony. When Caiden smelled a werewolf, he thought it strange. That smell was familiar, so he hurried outside. His mouth was dry, his heart was thumping in his chest, and he walked quickly.

Caiden believed he was having delusions.

Severely injured, Nate lay outside on the balcony, his feet dangling over the railing. Caiden ran to where she was and held him.

"Nate, please speak to me." Lisa hurried to assist, and the doctor supported him.

However, Nate remained silent, and for an instant Caiden believed he had passed away. He surveyed his surroundings, searching for some clue as to how Nate had gotten here, but he could discover none.

"Doctor, tell me if Nate is still alive."

He answered, soothing Caiden's heart, "He's alive, but he's very injured."
