Chapter 105 — The big fight

DEVYN’S POV.

I fought fiercely, determined to kill these fuckers. I had to admit that they were strong, even stronger than a typical werewolf, but I was stronger.

As long as Gina stayed back in the cave like a good girl, the fight wasn't going to last long.

Grabbing one wolf by the neck in my teeth, I tore into its overly thick neck as it struggled. The other wolf was trying to attack me from behind, but a swift kick from my hind legs stopped him.

Suddenly, a movement caught my attention from the corner of my eyes. Craning my neck, with my teeth still sunk deep into the wolf beneath me, a chill ran through me when I saw what had caught my attention.

I was too caught up in the fight, that I didn't even realize that the third wolf was missing. Now that my attention was drawn to him, I could see his large body blocking the cave entrance as he desperately clawed at the entrance, trying to grab a hold of Gina.

Blinded by rage, blood rushed through my veins as I released the wolf beneath me, flinging him away as he collided into a tree. Just as I ran towards the cave, I felt claws scratch at my back. The sensation felt like searing iron scalding my skin and melting my blood cells.

The pain was excruciating, but I could barely take my focus off Gina. Lunging at the wolf, I crashed into it and I clamped my teeth on its neck. We crashed to the ground, and in the darkness of the cave, I caught a glimpse of Gina’s wide amber eyes. The smell of her blood filled my lungs.

She was hurt?

Anger surged through me, eliciting the pain in my back. Fueled by rage and bloodlust, I sank my teeth into the wolf’s limbs, forcefully tearing one away. The sound of flesh, bones, and muscles ripping was like music to my ears.

Driven by the relentless desire to kill, Fueled with the desire to kill, I bit into it delivering a strong powerful bite that decapitated it instantly.

“Devyn!” Gina screamed my name so loud that my eardrums hurt. It was too late to see the reason she was yelling because a powerful force struck me. I was propelled as I crashed into a tree, the rough bark of the tree scraping against my already wounded back.

Getting up as quickly as I could, when I looked ahead, the wolves were standing in a way that reminded me of bears. Still trying to comprehend what the hell was happening, I scanned around for Gina because her safety was all I could care about at that moment.

My gaze met hers and there was fear and horror etched on her face. She was about to dash out of the cave and run towards me when I barked out an order at her to stay back.

‘I can’t watch you get beaten while I sit back doing nothing.’ Her voice sounded panicked in my head.

Beaten? I felt insulted. She still thought I couldn’t handle them by myself after I just killed one. Just because they could stand like a human, or their claws somehow left a burning injury, It didn’t make them any stronger and it didn’t make me any weaker.

‘Stay!’ I roared and she obeyed.

They ran towards me, their teeth bared and their claws outstretched. Pushing back the burning pain in my back, I lunged towards them, my paws thundering on the ground beneath me.

The plan was to dodge as many of their attacks as possible while inflicting harm on them. Growling, I pushed myself off the ground and collided with one of them, sending us tumbling to the ground. The wolf flailed his arms, its claws swiping the air around me as it landed an attack on me. Viciously, I snapped at its exposed stomach, blood splashing around me.

Sensing the second wolf closing in behind me, I swiftly reacted. As it leaped toward me, poised to attack, I clamped my teeth onto the leg of the first wolf and hurled it into the airborne wolf. The two collided with each other with a resounding thud and crashed to the ground.

Licking my bloodied mouth, I cringed in disgust at the putrid taste of their blood.

These things weren't normal. They were something more sinister and I was starting to establish that.

I glanced at Gina who watched from the cave, her eyes wide as observed.

The wolves got up to their feet, standing tall. The guts of the one I had attacked spilled out, but something strange began to happen. The guts were sucked back into its stomach, and the wound closed, healing like it was never there.

Did they regenerate that fast too?

I glanced at the one I killed, and he still appeared dead. So despite their ability to regenerate fast, a clean decapitation would kill them instantly. That didn’t sound like a hard task to do.

Giving them no time to think, I lunged towards them with speed, my mouth opened, revealing teeth ready to snap.

I collided with both of them, our bodies thrashing around until we were rolling down a hill. Just as I was about to grab one of their necks with my teeth, I felt one of them grab my hind leg, its nails digging into my flesh, as it clamped its teeth on my leg.

Excruciating pain shot through my leg, surging through my whole body. Fury reddened my eyes, and I kicked the beast clinging to my leg like a leech. It didn’t come off as much as I kicked, its grasp too firm on me. I couldn’t shift my entire focus to the wolf on my leg, because the other wolf was about to clasp my head in its mouth.

Resisting the pain as the teeth and claws ripped through my flesh and muscles, I dodged the other wolf’s attack and snapped his neck shut in my teeth. I was already in the process of biting its head off when I felt burning claws slash my stomach, my blood splattering on the ground beneath us.

I winced, as I felt a burn coursing through me. With strong force, I shot up and slashed my claws with a strong strike, clawing at the beast lurched on my leg. It released a sharp piercing cry as my claws slashed his eyes, making him release his hold on me.

Using all the strength I could muster, I grabbed the other one’s arm in my teeth and threw him off. I was finally free and I ran into the blinded one before it would regenerate.

Despite the excruciating pain in my leg, I ran, propelling myself forward, and clasped my teeth on its neck. I bit harder, feeling its neck tear as it trashed around, clawing at my face as it struggled to live. Just when the last bone on its neck was about to snap, I felt the other jump on my back, wrapping its arms around my neck as it crushed my neck.

I struggled to throw him, keeping my teeth still latched on the other one’s neck.

Suddenly, I felt the one on my back sink its teeth into my throat.

The pain was like hot lava burning at my throat, and as much as I tried to fight it, the pain made me lose my grip on the other wolf’s neck.

Was Gina still at the cave? Because it didn't feel like it.

Despite the pain, I felt my whole body cramp with hot unbearable pain.

Suddenly, all the strength started to drain from my body and I felt lightheaded. I couldn’t keep up with my transformation since it demanded a lot of power.

Something was wrong with me.

Mustering all the strength I could, I fell back on my back with force, and the wolf latched onto my back fell along with me, its head coming down with force and colliding with a rock underneath.

Its grip released when I heard the crack of its skull.

Shifting back to my human form unwillingly, my body trembled and my knees bucked as I tried to stay on my feet.

“Stop!”

Hearing her voice made all the blood drain from my body. I grinded my teeth at her but she wasn't affected by my anger.

‘I told you not to come out of the cave’, I bit out at her in my mind because talking made my throat scorch. My windpipes were partly crushed, there were scratches on my face, down to my body, and my foot was a bloody mess.

Yet, it was not enough to keep me down.

But it did because these were not ordinary injuries. The pain shooting through me was like nothing I had ever experienced. Even silver didn’t hurt like this.

The light was beginning to fade from me, but I fought hard against it.

I couldn’t pass out yet. The bastards were still alive and Gina was in front of me, guarded.

I told her not to leave the cave. Why is she so damn stubborn?

‘Get back to the cave,’ even the voice in my mind was beginning to shut out as I wrestled with the pain.

When I saw the wolves approaching her, I propelled myself forward.

Suddenly, my body went rigid and I couldn’t move. I could feel my heart slowing down.

What was happening?

I collapsed but my body didn’t touch the ground. I felt arms around me, and through my hazy vision, I saw Gina. Worry and fear were etched on her face.

Why was she crying?

“Devyn, what’s happening? Stay with me.” Her hands cradled my face.

Her eyes widened as if she saw something horrific, then she looked away. The next thing that followed was her shrieking.

“What did you do to him?! Answer me! Goddamnit! What did you do to him!?” Her scream pierced my heart.

I tried to raise my hand to cup her face, and that was when I saw it.

The reason for my sudden weakness and the explanation for the excruciating pain surging through me.

My hands were darkened, and I stared at them in confusion. The blackness seemed to travel through every vein and was spreading through my whole body.

The sinister darkness was familiar. Where have I seen it before?

Then it all came to me.

The dead child at the pack; His skin had looked similar.

Sudden dread washed over me and for the first time, I felt truly terrified.

I was poisoned by the evil darkness itself.
