We Are Under Attack!
"Please don't do this. Simon, Simon, Simon." Scarlett's voice began to fade, and instantly, she was jolted awake. She took a look around and noticed how familiar the room was. A sigh escaped her lips. "Great. He brought me back home." Scarlett rolled onto her back, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. She exhaled deeply before removing the bed sheet that had been covering her legs.
Scarlett sat up and looked at the time. When she walked to her closet, her door opened. Avery and Cornelia dashed in, already dressed in their uniforms. "Good morning, Scarlett."
Scarlett was taken aback when she saw both of them. "Why are you…"
Cornelia cuts her off. "Dressed in school uniforms?" She chuckled. "School, Scarlett. Have you forgotten?"
"I believe she has." Avery walked over to Scarlett's bed and sat down. She smiled as she looked up at Scarlett. "She is married now, Cornelia. She believes she is no longer required to attend school."
Of course! Her friends have no idea what happened between her and Simon, or how brutally he rejected her the night before. She is still in pain as she remembers every hurtful word he said. How could he have abandoned her in such a way? How could he have rejected her in such a way? How could he have forgotten what they had in just a few minutes? Scarlett sniffed, trying to keep her tears at bay.
"How could I possibly have forgotten? Just because I'm married doesn't mean I've forgotten who I am as a person with bigger dreams. As you can see, I'm on my way to the bathroom to get ready." Scarlett walked back to her table and grabbed her phone before entering the bathroom. Once inside, she checked to see if the door was properly locked. Scarlett walked to the tub and dialled Mace after turning on the faucet. She could have mindlinked him, but every aspect of being a werewolf she doesn't want to use, especially after Simon rejected her hours ago. "Mace. Can you hear me?" Scarlett began speaking as soon as the phone was picked up.
"What's that noise?"
"The water is on. I'm concerned that Avery and Cornelia might overhear our conversation."
"Then you could have mindlinked me then. Are you okay? I wasn't expecting to hear from you. Is everything all right?"
Scarlett took a seat on the jacuzzi's rim. "No. Nothing is fine." She didn't mind shedding a few tears to Mace. She had gotten to know him over the past month, and he was the one she could confine the most. Mace is an understanding person, which has brought them closer together because of how well he understands her.
"Luna. Are you okay? Why are you crying?"
Scarlett sniffed. "Simon. Simon did something, Mace. I…I mean, he said something terrible to me last night."
"Simon did? No, he would never say anything hurtful to you. He is your Alpha, so perhaps what happened was a misunderstanding?"
"No. He rejected me as his Luna. He claimed he had never loved me and would never love me. He sounded angry at me, and I awoke wondering what I had done wrong to elicit such an outburst from him. I didn't do anything wrong, Mace. Regardless of how much I think about it. I…"
"Did you just say he rejected you?"
"He did. He had the same demeanor when he was mad at me the first time we met. When I looked into his eyes, all I saw was hatred and more hatred. Nothing makes sense, no matter how hard I think about it. I need to know why he changed so much in just a few minutes."
"This is unbelievable." Mace sighed. "I will have a conversation with him, Luna. You don't have to worry. Simon isn't like that. I know him that much. I'll talk to him, and you two will be fine in no time. Right now, I'm on my way to his house. I'll make certain he speaks with you." Mace hung up the phone and slipped it into his pocket. He felt a sensation when he placed his hand on the doorknob.
When he opened the door, his jaw dropped open. Mace walked inside, slowly closing the door behind him. Standing in the doorway, he could see various girls in bikinis walking around. Some were carrying bottles of wine as they passed by. One was seen dancing to the music while not wearing a bra or pants. Completely naked. "Simon?" In his search for his friend, he passed those girls by.
"Hey, handsome. Come have some fun with us." One of the girls said as she rubbed her hands all over him.
"Absolutely not." Mace said as she dashed for the stairwell. Looking back at the ground, he could see how messed up the girls had made it. How did Simon even find these girls? They appeared to be party goers. They also don't smell like werewolves. Perhaps he'd found them at the club.
Scarlett was correct, based on everything Mace had witnessed. He'd rejected her, and instead of dying in his bedroom, he threw a party. Goddess knows how long the party has been going on for. Mace pushed open the door to Simon's room and saw him beaming at the girl who had climbed on top of him.
"Simon!" Mace dragged the young lady away from Simon. He grabbed her clothes from the couch and threw them to her. "You! Get out of here right now, and the girls along with you. I'll call the cops if you don't leave in five minutes."
The girls stormed out of the room. Simon faced Mace. "Hey. I was just about to start having fun."
"Fun? How long has this party been going on for? What the hell is going on?"
"You ruined things for me. Just call the girls back."
"You are married, Simon. "Do I really need to remind you of that?"
Simon scoffed. "Married? I have never heard of those words before." He got out of bed and went to get a bottle of whiskey. He drank before confronting Mace once more. "I'm not familiar with..." Simon groaned at the immediate blow he received from Mace. "What the hell, Mace?"
"I heard. When she told me about the rejection, I didn't want to believe her. How could you do such a thing to someone you claimed to love? I told you that if you hurt her, I'll never be friends with you again." Simon burst out laughing. "What went wrong?" Mace asked. "You were head over heels in love with her. And now you're rejecting her? Do you realise how you've offended the moon goddess?"
Simon sat down and drank some more. "Do you honestly believe I'm okay with any of this?"
"So, what made you hurt her?"
"I couldn't possibly love her anymore."
"Why, Simon? She is Scarlett. The same girl who shaped you into a person with a heart. That's a sign she's the one for you."
"And what if I told you she can never be?" Simon rose to his feet and reached for the photograph. He hurled it at Mace. "What if I told you Scarlett's father was the one I murdered in retaliation for murdering my parents?"
Mace took a look at the picture before turning to face Simon. He knows? That was why he didn't tell her the reason. Now he understood why Simon was upset. He'd decided that letting her go was preferable to killing her the way he killed her father.
"You can't even talk."
"Simon. I…"
"It's okay. I don't want her to find out why I sent her away."
When Mace and Simon sensed a mindlink coming through, they looked at themselves. Cypher demanded their attention, and he sounded like he'd been running for miles. He sounded like he was out of breath.
"Cypher. Why do you sound like that?" Mace asked.
"Alpha. Gamma. I'm afraid I have some bad news. We are under attack."
