Author’s POV

"Members of this great assembly, I stand here this day to plead with you all to hearken to my plea this day," one of the rogues pleaded with strings of sweat forming a weak bead on his forehead.

The hall was filled with male rogues from different packs, most of which had their Alphas and betas present. As the man who stood in the ring for defaulters continued to plead that the council grant him a pardon for his wrongs, the hall goes so silent that the drop of a pin will reverberate in the room unhindered.

Once the rogue leaders set a target and commit that target into the hands of one whom they bestow their trust in to bring the mission to fruition, it must either be successful or the person in charge of the mission will face the wrath of the whole assembly.

"I plead with you all from the depth of my heart to please spare me," the chains in his hands jingled as he made to raise his hands to demonstrate the wordings of his mouth. Among the faces in the plenary, Alpha Mason and Alpha Jason's faces could be spotted. Others wore masks to cover their faces also.

"Tell this honourable assembly why you are befitting of pardon when the mission that was committed into your hands failed?" One of the rogue leaders asked the offender after stamping his gavel on the gavel pad. His eyes were almost crimson red with oversized spectacles.

“One more chance and I promise to make it right,” the offender pleaded profusely as he didn’t want to be in the black book of the rogue leaders. His eyes were almost teary from the excessive pleadings he had tendered. “Too late. Too late. There is no second chance for you and you know what that means,” the rogue Alpha threatened.

“I do not want to have my eyes gorged out, please,” the offender pleaded with hard tears streaking down his eyes. He wasn’t a family man and so, he had no wife who would mourn over him nor children who might seek to avenge his death. The only reason he pleaded with all of his might was because of his sick mother at home who was waiting for the proceeds he brought home to refill the can of her arthritis medicine.

“If your eyes mattered to you, then, you should have thought about their usefulness carefully before failing to deliver on the mission committed to your care,” the alpha sneered at him. When we got to the house, we discovered that Aurora was more powerful than we had thought,” the offender defended himself, hoping that pardon would be granted to him.

“Oh, come off that bullshit. A mere werewolf cannot be more powerful than you are. A whole rogue getting scared of a werewolf?” The rogue alpha snapped back at the supposed offender standing at the podium where the offenders usually stood.

“Get this miserable and incompetent nitwit to the lab for some experiment. He would be of great use to the lab technicians,” the rogue alpha said with a clap of his hands. Immediately after he uttered those words, some macho-looking men came in and bundled the already-chained offender to the lab.

It wasn’t an easy task for them to take him out because he wriggled fiercely with them till he was subdued by the rush of a hundred volts of electricity into his body.

"Good riddance to bad rubbish," the rogue alpha said after the noise in the assembly subsided. He looked at his rogue beta and beckoned him to approach him hastily. His beta approached him with a question on his lips. “This is not the first time that our attacks have proven abortive on the life of Aurora. Do we launch a new attack on her?” He asked with seriousness in the tone of his voice, his body tilting slightly to the left and right as he uttered each of the words.

“The men who were sent there were incapable of delivering on the job. The issue isn’t that Aurora is powerful but that we need skilled men who are ready to take the bull by its horns to take up the mission,” he said with a resigned sigh, his face wearing a familiar wicked grin that further emboldened the many contours his face had.

“Do I arrange men who would see to the matter at hand?” his rogue beta asked, with a curious gaze waiting for the go-ahead from him. “Do not only send men to warn her. Ensure the new set of men you send would never return till they had ended her life,” the rogue alpha warned strictly.

“Sure, I will. This time, she would crumble like the proverbial London bridge,” the rogue beta assured with a note of certainty in his voice. The rogue alpha didn't wait to hear his words of assurance because he stepped aside to take a call from a strange number he didn't know.

“Ooh, I see you have changed your line?” The rogue alpha spoke into the phone.
“My business with you has nothing to do with whether I change my line or not. I owe you no explanation of what I chose to do with my gadget and how often I do it. Cut to chase and let’s move ahead,” the feminine voice echoed.

“Has Aurora been killed like I paid you heavily to do?” she continued. “Ermm… it is still in the pipeline,” the rogue alpha answered, a little fidgety as he spoke into the phone. From time to time, he kept looking at his beta to see if he could read through the strong face he was putting up to fish out his fears.

“You incompetent nincompoop! I knew that you and your bastards wouldn’t be able to deliver,” she cussed angrily. “Ending Aurora is the beginning of our success plan. I have seen it. I won’t have you scatter that plan for me,” She yelled fiercely.

“The next attack is about to be launched on her, I am in charge of that mission and I will ensure that her life is taken away from her. Please, be calm.” The rogue alpha pleaded, the tone of his voice soft and lowered.
