Aurora’s POV
I was a bit sceptical about my decision to meet the man, but I held off, thinking he was going to be different from his brethren. Little did I know that a leopard doesn’t change its stripes.
Stretching his hand to a direction opposite him, he motioned for me to sit. All the while I had interacted with this man in the past, I hadn’t been this edgy and fearful around him, not once but today, something seems to be off. The energy in the room was one of heaviness but I sat still believing for the best.
“I do not think you are prepared for the help I want to offer you,” he started, looking intently at me.
“Well, I wouldn’t be seated before you if I wasn’t ready,” I responded with a shrug. “Join me,” he said.
“What exactly do you mean, sir?” I quizzed, my brows arching slightly. “You see, Aurora, from the first time I met you I had known that you have excellent leadership potential. Take a look at what you are doing with Alpha Simeon’s pack,” he paused like he was thinking of the next thing to say to me.
“We are taking over the werewolves very soon, join us now when you still can,” he pleaded without pleading. I shook my head in negation. My eyes looked shocked by his statement.
“The attack that was launched on me and my kids hasn’t left my memory yet and you ask me to join the same sect that orchestrated the attack?” I shook my head with firmness as I held onto my guns.
“Can’t you see that you are no longer safe here and the pack is only using you for their benefits? At least, if you join the rogues, maximum protection for you and your kids is guaranteed,” he insisted further.
“You mean the protection you took from us? Who do you even work for and why are you still in this pack?” I shot back with disgust etched on my face. I didn’t want any of the Alphas to come in, so I reduced my tone. “Joining you is like biting the fingers that fed me. I will do no such thing!” I affirmed, rising to my feet immediately.
“Hey! Hey! Calm down,” he shushed, walking slowly to me. I gave no heed to what he was up to till I found myself struggling to breathe. Thinking he was coming closer to console me, he wrapped his arms around my neck in a bid to asphyxiate me.
I struggled for seconds, frantically beating his arms to make him take it off. Maybe he thought I was there alone and he could kill me off and no one would know. Still gasping for breath, Alpha Simeon Barged into the room, and gave him a good kick from behind, hence, releasing the pressure on my neck.
“You set me up? I thought we were friends,” He yelled at me. More kicks landed on his stomach as Alpha Killian didn’t have the slightest atom of pity for him.
“Friends do not try to kill each other,” I yelled. Alpha Killian was standing at the door post when I yelled at the man with reckless abandon. He looked surprised but he didn’t show it. “You will regret ever setting me up, I swear this to you,” he continued to yell as he furiously made attempts at wriggling free from the spot Alpha Simeon tied him to.
“You can do nothing more than a dead fly would do, you nitwit,” Alpha Killian shut him up and tightened the ropes that bound him in preparation to take him along with us back to the pack.
“Rogues are always rebellious and violent. Did you think this one would be different from the others?” Alpha Killian interrogated as he drove us back to the pack.
“A fruit doesn’t fall too far from the tree,” Alpha Killian chipped in. It felt like I was a lone fighter against two. That didn’t matter because I knew they were on my side and for a second, I was grateful that I didn’t go alone to see the rogue.
We got to the pack and Alpha Simon’s men came along immediately to drag off the man rogue that was tied in the boot. “He can give us information on how to outsmart these rogues,” I opined, caressing my neck slightly.
“What’s the matter? Are you hurt?” Michelle asked, her face burrowed in worry and her hands fiddled with my hair as she tried to take off some stray strands from my face.
“I will be fine, dear. How are the kids?”
“They ran around the whole place, playing hide and seek. They just retired to their room shortly before you drove in,” Michelle said warmly. “I will check on them soon, let me see what the rogue is up to,” I said and without waiting, I walked to the cell where the prisoner was bound.
His once radiant face now looked like it lacked colour and vigour. He looked like one of the Walking Dead. Suddenly bonny and weak. At first, I didn’t see that it was the silver-coated rods in the cell that affected him till he held his chest and dropped down on his knees.
I stared pitifully at him and made to leave when he called me back. “Don’t waste your potential in this pack. These normal werewolves do not love you. There’s a higher love waiting for you when you join the rogues,” he said shakily as he held onto the thick silver-coated rod.
I stood there and watched as he took his hands off the silver rods. The effect of the silver eating into his hands. I shook my head pitifully and made for the entrance. I halted again in my tracks immediately I heard him confess how he orchestrated the attack on my house and kids and that he only wanted to get me to join them and not to cause any harm. I felt so disappointed that I hissed bitterly and left the cell quatres immediately.
