Chapter 175 Do Or Die

Chapter 175 Do Or Die
\[Osiris’ POV\]
I let out a growl of warning as my stepmother watches me with a look of amusement.
I don’t know what the hell she thinks will end up happening in this situation, but I know that there is no way that she can take me on like this.
‘Kill,’ Sterling murmurs, only adding to the bloodlust that I’m already feeling. ‘Kill her.’
‘I should,’ I tell him, but I know that death was too good for her.
The woman in front of me deserved to live a long life filled with suffering to make up for all the suffering that she put me and my mother through.
‘I won’t kill her.’ I tell Sterling, moving forward while my stepmother braces for impact. ‘I’m going to make sure that she suffers!’
Letting out a snarl, I leap, but before I can connect with my stepmother another wolf erupts from the room beside us and it places itself between her and me.
Ray? I hiss silently, recognizing him immediately. What the hell are you doing?
As this thought appears, Ray begins to fight me, pushing me backwards, away from his mother while my anger only continues growing.
I thought he was on our side, but here he was actually helping his mother.
Bastard.
I let out another snarl and start to fight, biting wherever I can and scratching where my claws can connect, but even then he continues to fight me until he has made some distance. However, after that he does something that I’m not expecting.
Instead of continuing to fight me, he turns and then moves, leaping and slamming his body into his mother’s, sending both of them crashing to the ground and into the woman who is doing her best to keep Raelyn at bay.
I watch in shock as all three begin to fight, each working to try to claim dominance and when it seems like Ray may be getting the advantage a bright light bursts forward and encases him.
Eyes widening, I watch as it lifts him into the air and then slowly starts to bend him until I can hear something cracking and then his body goes limp.
No! I gasp, realizing what has just happened. No! This can’t be happening!
But of course, it was. The proof was Ray’s motionless figure being dropped to the ground and the pained howl that escapes my stepmother as she disengages herself from the woman and scrambles to her son.
Letting out another pained howl, she pushes her nose against his body, urging him to move, but he doesn’t. Instead, he starts to slowly shift back into his human form and then lies there unmoving.
Fuck.
This woman was out of her fucking mind and what was worse was that Raelyn was already collecting herself and preparing for another attack, but before she can, Jean moves, her hand stretching out so that light can burst from it and wrap around the woman’s neck.
Once it is in place, it remains there, slowly tightening while the woman struggles to get it off and when it finally becomes too much she collapses.
Only when Jean is certain that the woman is no longer a threat does she release the light and then collapse herself while Raelyn shifts back into her human form and moves toward her.
“Jean!” She gasps, pulling the woman against her. “Jean, are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Jean puffs, her voice weak. “Just tired.”
“You did good,” Raelyn murmurs, giving a sad smile. “Thank you.”
Nodding, Jean turns her gaze toward the scene ahead of her, shifting it from the unconscious woman to Ray and my stepmother. Even from where I’m standing I can see the pain in her gaze as I’m certain she blames herself for whatever is happening.
‘We should call grandfather,’ Sterling murmurs. ‘It’s over.’
For a moment, I don’t say anything as I continue to watch what is happening in front of me and when I finally prepare to agree Raelyn lets out a hiss of pain.
Instantly, I’m moving, shifting back into my human form and catching Raelyn as she starts to fall forward while clutching her stomach.
“What’s wrong?” I demand, holding her against me so I feel the heat radiating from her skin. “What’s happening?”
“Treatment,” she whimpers, clutching her stomach. “It’s been a while.”
“Dammit,” I growl, looking to Jean who is clearly in no condition to do anything right now. “Why now?”
Because that was the way the universe works. I think, silently answering my own question.
When you think that everything is starting to look up and go your way something comes slamming into you that knocks you down.
“It’s okay,” Raelyn tries as I let out a string of profanities. “I just need a little rest and then…”
She doesn’t finish her words as another whimper of pain escapes her and she curls in on herself just as the scent of blood reaches my nose.
Hissing in shock, I look down to see that between her thighs is starting to become stained with blood and I know that if I don’t figure something out soon there was a good chance that our pups and even Raelyn wouldn’t make it.
“Jean,” I growl, knowing that it was a long shot but becoming desperate. “Can you help her?”
“Osiris,” Raelyn whispers, her head shaking. “She’s lost too much energy.”
“But…”
“We can’t burden her.”
“But look at you!”
Dammit. How could she be saying such a thing at a time like this?
Didn’t she realize the condition she was in?
“Hospital,” she pushes, snapping me out of my spiral. “Get me to a hospital, now.”
“Alright.”
I don't argue any further before I'm rising, Raelyn cradled against me, and I'm moving. As I turn, I spot Adeline and multiple men approaching and I know that things here will be handled.
"Osiris!" Adeline gasps when she reaches me. "What's wrong?"
"Deal with this." I tell her. "I've gotta go."
I don't wait for a response before I'm moving, pushing my way through the men that follow Adeline and making my way toward the buildings exit. However, before I can reach the guests for the evenings banquet start flooding out to see what exactly is happening.
"Move," I growl, shoving my way through them. "Get out of the fucking way!'
They're frustratingly compacted, making it damn near impossible to move and that alone makes me want to beat the shit out of them.
What were they doing?
Couldn't they see that I was in a very dire situation?
"Osiris," Raelyn whispers as I contemplate acting on my instincts. "I think somethings wrong."
