Chapter 164 An Unexpected Call
Chapter 164 An Unexpected Call
\[Osiris’ POV\]
“I’m going to fucking kill them.”
It’s the first thing to escape me as I return home, where Adeline is waiting with Becky.
Both their gazes come to rest on me while I drop my car keys and pull off my coat.
“What happened?”
Adeline’s voice is calm, yet probing, as she speaks, and I once again remember what the hell I witnessed when I went to Moon Storm.
For a moment, I don’t speak as my distrust of her and Jean returns, but if she was trying to fool me, wouldn’t it benefit me to play along?
“Well?” She pushes when I don’t speak. “How can you return saying something like that without any context?”
“She doesn’t remember me.”
The words escape me as pain shoots through my chest from how my mate stared at me.
Even when our eyes would meet, I could easily tell that she didn’t quite know who the fuck I was, and that damn near killed me.
“She,” Adeline repeats, frowning. “Who are you referring to?”
“I think it is obvious,” I tell her, collapsing onto the couch. “Raelyn. She doesn’t fucking remember me.”
“What?” Adeline gasps, her eyes widening. “But how… How could that be?”
“Jean.”
Growing quiet, I wait while Adeline processes what I have just told her, and when I see disbelief and even shock in her eyes, I wonder if she actually didn’t know that her mate would do such a thing or if she was just a damn good actress.”
“Wait,” she says, shaking her head in disbelief. “There is no way that Jean would do such a thing.”
“Are you saying that I am lying?”
Go ahead. I challenge silently. Pick which side you’re on and prove to me that my assumption about the two of you is wrong.
“I just…” Adeline begins, her gaze filled with confusion. “I don’t understand why Jean would do such a thing.”
Because she was helping that bitch the whole time.
That was the only plausible explanation, and now that we were here, I would be sure to take her down.
“Are you sure that Jean is the one who did it?” Adeline pushes. “Maybe something happened that forced Jean to be there and…”
“Are you protecting her?” I growl, my anger slowly bubbling over. “I’m going to make this perfectly clear. You are either with me or against me.”
I was done playing nice and idly sitting by waiting for my stepmother and any other fucking person who wanted to oppose me to make a move.
It was now my turn to make fucking moves, and if that meant risking my position as heir of Dawson Industries and Moon Storm, then I would do it.
“Get out,” I growl, standing and heading to the door. “Since it is clear that you are on Jean’s side, then you can…”
“Just wait!” Adeline snaps. “We don’t know the whole story right now.”
“I DON’T NEED A WHOLE FUCKING STORY!” I roar, grabbing the door and yanking it off its hinges. “MY MATE DOESN’T FUCKING REMEMBER ME AND ACTUALLY BELIEVES THAT SHE IS SOON TO BE MARRIED TO MY FUCKING BROTHER!”
How was I supposed to remain calm when the very thought of another man touching what was mine drove me to insanity?
Add in the fact that even my grandfather had turned against me, and I was feeling pretty fucking alone and ready to kill right about now.
“I’m just saying to calm down so we can think about this rationally.” Adeline sighs. “I know Jean, and I know that she wouldn’t do such a thing for no reason.”
“I don’t give two shits what her reasoning is,” I point out. “She went and fucked with not only Raelyn’s but even my grandfather’s memories, and for that she will be thoroughly punished.”
“Touch her and I will kill you,” Adeline warns. “If you don’t want to try to get to the bottom of this, so be it. But I swear that if you lay a hand on Jean, it won’t be pretty.”
“Are you threatening me?” I growl.
“Of course, I am.” She responds.
“Then why don’t we settle things right here and now?”
“Gladly."
Letting my anger get the best of me, I move forward while Adeline stands, bracing herself to try to fight me.
“Um, guys,” Becky calls as I start to move in on Adeline. “Someone’s phone is ringing.”
For a moment, neither Adeline nor I move as Becky’s words reach us, and when I hear the very phone in question ringing. I dig into my pocket.”
“Who?” I growl, examining the unknown number on the screen.
“Answer it,” Adeline huffs.
“It isn’t important,” I counter, swiping the decline. “Right now, my only concern is dealing with you and…”
I don’t finish my words as my phone begins to ring again, and when my frustration gets the better of me, I answer.
“Who the fuck is it?” I growl.
“It’s me.”
“Ray?” I hiss, recognizing the voice immediately. “Why the hell are you calling me?”
Growing quiet, I wait while Ray doesn’t speak, and I can’t help but wonder if he called simply to fuck with me.
“If you don’t fucking speak, I’m hanging up.” I growl. “I’m in the middle of something.”
“Wait,” he gasps. “Don’t hang up! There’s something that I must tell you.”
“What?” I demand. “Are you calling to brag about the fact you’ve managed to get one up on me by manipulating others memories?”
“No,” he responds quietly. “That isn’t the reason I called at all.”
“Then why the hell did you call?”
“I called to tell you that Raelyn remembers everything and that she is going to help me deal with my mother, but in order for that to happen, we need you to not try to do anything until the day of the wedding.”
"What?" I snap. "What the hell are you saying right now?"
"It is exactly as you heard," Ray responds, his voice determined. "In order for us to finally deal with my mother and have her sent away where she belongs we need to make the wedding between me and Raelyn happen."
"You're crazy," I say slowly. "Especially if you believe that I will allow something like that to happen."
"You need…"
Ray's voice trails off as I hear the sound of talking in the background of wherever the hell he is and when I realize that the voice I'm hearing is my flame's, I wait until someone speaks.
"It's me," she says, sending a wave of relief through me. "I know that this may be hard to understand, but what Ray says is true. I know that it is asking a lot for you to sit back and do nothing, but I'm begging you to please do as he asked."
