Kiara’s claws sank into the wall made of wood. Her once sun-kissed beautiful skin transformed into an eerie porcelain white, crouched on the wall, with her head falling, appearing to be slightly detached from her body.
Her hair fell over her face, serving her a completely deranged appearance.
With this very inhumane situation, Dali showed no form of fear. Not only because she knew what she was capable of, but because she knew who Kiara was.
Deep down, she was aware that Kiara would not let herself hurt her.
And in addition to that, she could feel something, a sense of familiarity, and she could tell that this emotion was not hers. She was certain of that, as she was sure about the fear creeping into her reality.
Wait, what?
She furrowed her eyebrows, staring at Kiara.
It was clear as day that these emotions, these very profound emotions, were coming from the person perched on the wall.
Over the two years Kiara had been in a coma, well, Dali had studied extensively from the books the healers managed to save. She was the sire and Kiara her childe. She could feel what Kiara feels.
They had a bond that would never be destroyed by anything. The loyalty Kiara would feel towards her is unmatched. This was going to be their reality soon.
Dali knew this.
So she stood in the middle of the room, staring at the unrecognizable woman on the wall glaring at her simply out of fear. Dali slowly lifted her left hand. On her right hand, the claw on her index finger shot out. With a swift move, she slit her wrist open. The wound was deep, and the blood rushed out, tainting the air and dropping to the floor in droplets.
Dali smirked the second she heard Kiara stop hissing. “Is this what you want?” she asked despite knowing Kiara couldn’t deliver a response.
Kiara turned around to face her on the wall, sniffing, her eyes turning darker.
She was being pulled in by the blood. Not just because it was blood, but because it was Dali’s blood.
Kiara did not know this, but she needed this specific blood in order to survive. Without Dali’s blood as the first blood she fed on, she would never be able to return to her old self. She needed Dali.
She needed to feed on blood.
Meanwhile, Chase was standing in front of the clinic. He had heard, just like everyone else in the village, how Celyn was yelling at Dali. He saw the blood, saw the dead bodies he left at the battlefield, saw the tears that trickled down Kiara’s eyes as she took her last breath.
But only when he saw how Dali defeatedly dropped to her knees, accepting the verbal abuse from Celyn, did he feel a pang of guilt and regret.
He saw the way Celyn sounded, the way she looked, it was nothing close to sanity. In fact, it was ambiguous if she was still with her brain. And as for Dali, she simply dropped to her knees, seeing no need to fight, no need to argue.
She didn’t even blame him.
She only took the insults.
Chase swallowed. He suddenly had no idea what to do.
“What’s wrong?” Damon asked from beside him.
Chase could not confide in him regarding what he was feeling for so many reasons, and one of them being that the man was clearly emotionally dumb, and well, they were never friends, so he couldn’t share his thoughts with Damon.
Now, if one was thinking towards that, why the hell did Damon rescue him?
They were not friends, they both thought the worst of each other. They both hated each other. Why then did he save him?
Chase turned to face him. “I have a question for you,” he said.
Damon shrugged, waiting to get hit by the question. “What’s up?”
“Why did you pull me along with you when you could easily just run away yourself?”
Damon scoffed, then turned his eyes away. “It doesn’t matter, does it? It’s all in the past.”
Chase shook his head, refusing to let it be in the past. “When we return to our lives, well, I owe you one.”
Damon nodded his head. “If that’s the case.”
Kiara had her fangs sank into Dali’s flesh, drinking in the blood greedily. She moaned softly as she drank, and Dali could vaguely see color returning to her skin, even though it was working slightly.
After a few minutes, when Dali felt her consciousness starting to waver, she quickly took her hand back. This resulted in Kiara dropping to the ground, blood on her lips and her eyes back to honey brown.
She was staring at Dali with a wrinkle in between her eyebrows.
“What the fuck just happened?”
Dali chuckled to herself. At that moment, her legs gave out, and she fell to the floor.
The door was pushed open, and Marisol, Alexa, Celyn, and Deidre stepped in.
On seeing Kiara back to normal, Celyn pushed past everyone else and rushed to Kiara, capturing her in a hug.
“You’re awake.”
Kiara returned the hug. She held on to Celyn like her life depended on it, her body vibrated just from the feeling of having her to herself like this.
Alexa and Deidre stepped forward. Marisol only walked out of the room after ensuring, from several kisses on Kiara’s face from Celyn’s doing.
Kiara had no idea just how long she had been flickered off, but seeing Celyn now, she could tell she missed out on a lot.
And seeing Dali taking slow steps back, using the whole commotion as a distraction, she started to walk out.
“Now, what exactly did I miss?” Kiara asked, pulling away from Celyn but keeping her close.
Alexa laughed. “We can talk about what you missed when you get back to the bed and let us run a few tests on you. Is that fine?”
Kiara nodded, but Celyn, who was positioned on her thighs, only smiled at her mother.
This was a smile that Alexa hasn’t seen in months. Celyn changed drastically after Kiara died. Her chirpy daughter, her righteous, driven daughter turned into a shell of who she used to be.
She only visited the clinic and then never laughed again.
As for Celyn, she was happy. The happiness had been taken from her only after they acknowledged each other as mates. Only after they sealed it with a kiss.
Life. Fate. Destiny. Never cared for her. All they did was look at her and then looked away. And what was even more trifling was how it would just give her a wave of misfortune nobody asked for.
Like losing her mate for two years.
She helped Kiara to her feet and followed her to the bed. Kiara could walk. But there were things she couldn’t do, and Celyn was excited to do it together.
Kiara settled into her bed. And after scrutinizing everyone’s faces, she asked, “What’s up with Dali?”
