Chapter 194
Joseph
After they came home three days ago, my heart felt so light, so light, that I went out to the backyard and lay down on my back in the snow just to breathe a little.
I still needed to apologize to my Alpha for not being with her that day, but I was infinitely calmer now that I knew everyone was okay.
Sury had a crying fit when he came back, but I feel like it was more out of relief too than anything else. She couldn't walk for a whole day because of the shot she had received in the leg and Alaric took advantage of the situation to stay with her the entire time.
Now I... I needed to talk to Matheu. The last time I saw him, his nose was bleeding from the punch I had thrown. I was also sure that his mother would want to slap me if she knew that I was the one who hit her son.
And there was the situation of secrecy. Connor forgave me because it wasn't my fault that I changed in front of him, but... If I started thinking about it, I would break out in a cold sweat and feel much more distressed than before. He had given his word that he would keep my secret and I had to trust him, even though I had almost broken his nose.
Ah... What do I do...
Everything I think about doing my body makes a point of doing differently. I've been breaking out in a cold sweat whenever I think too much and I've been running a lot more than before. I have the impression that winter isn't as cold as it used to be and I feel like there's something strange about me.
I put on my clothes feeling the sweat sticking to my hair. I had just come home from a run when I smelled it in the house. It was Matheu's smell.
I ran into the living room and saw him sitting on the couch. Surrounded by wolves like dogs surrounding the new toy. His eyes were scared since Matheu knew very well what we were capable of.
“There he is.” Sury wasn't home and Philip was the one who said it. The redhead who looked at me as if I had done the worst thing in the world. He was smiling, though. Maybe he was eager to see me get yelled at, but the one thing he didn't know was that Connor already knew everything.
But what had Matheu told them?” And why was he here?” As he knew I lived here, I never brought him, not even to do work.
Calm down. Use your mouth, shit.
“M”Matheu! So you came... Come, let's go up.” It was the first time I saw him get up from the couch so quickly and come to me obediently.
"Wait a second." Philip spoke and the others watched.” Do you know what he said, Joseph?” I turned around and faced the redhead.
"What.
“That he knows about us.
“Yeah, Connor knows this too and has already spoken to me. He just didn't have time to warn you.
“And what guarantees that the human will keep his mouth shut?” Philip changed the color of his eyes on purpose and I saw from the corner of my eye when Matheu hid a little behind my body. I was surprised he trusted me. And relieved.” You know very well that we have just emerged from an extremely difficult and dangerous situation.
“I know, this happened before all this mess. It was an accident. He's my best friend and everything's fine. He promised he would keep it a secret. And if he didn't trust us, he wouldn't be here. It should be obvious to you.” It wasn't obvious. I didn’t even know what Matheu was doing there, but it must mean something, right?”
“I don’t believe his promise.
"The problem is yours." I tightened my voice and felt my body sweating even more from nervousness.” Go talk to Alpha.” I grabbed Matheu's arm and pulled him towards the stairs, but Philip went in front.
Taller, older, stronger.
“I consider you my brother, but if I don’t explain the situation, I will be forced to do things I don’t want to do.” It was the first time I had seen him so serious. And his orange eyes showed so much at the same time that I felt a little lost.
“He’s no danger, Philip, get out of the way and call our Alpha.” I glanced sideways at the other wolves to see if any of them saw the plea in my eyes, but none of them knew what to do. They seemed worried about Matheu too.
“How can you prove it?” I had no way. All I had was my friend's word. Who actually hadn't said an A since I saw him. Then I looked at Matheu's face, which was paler than paper. Say something! I wanted to say, but I knew he was on the verge of breaking down. I could smell it.
“I lost control and ended up transforming in front of him.” I looked back at Philip.” Even so, he promised he would keep it a secret. Sophia is on trial.
“And”I swear.” It was the first sentence I heard from Matheu, but I thanked him greatly for trying.
“Your word is worthless. Human." Philip growled and I stepped in front again, taking a step closer to the redhead.
“I can’t prove it, but I take responsibility for it.” Philip snorted a laugh.
“How are you going to hold yourself accountable?” Surrender to the hunters instead of the pack if they find out about us?” My body almost shook thinking about it.” Do you know what would have happened if the shot that Sury took in the leg had hit here?” He pointed to my head and I felt my stomach drop.
“I know very well what could have happened. My parents didn’t die for nothing.” I finally saw Philip’s stance waver.” Now get the fuck out of the way!” I pushed him and pulled Matheu to the stairs first before we continued climbing. No interruptions this time.
When I entered the room, I locked the door and took a deep breath trying to calm down again. I turned my back until I heard Matheu sit on my bed. Had I really yelled at my pack brother who was higher in the hierarchy?” I could very well have been overwhelmed by it. I would deal with the consequences later, but now...
“What are you doing here?” My voice was soft. I've had enough emotions for today and I didn't want to make my friend “who was the key to my pack's safety” any worse.
“I couldn't wait for Monday” and decided to come talk to you today.
“How did you know where I live?”
“One time you went to fill out your school form and I saw your address. I recorded it because it was far from school. And in the middle of nowhere.
“Shit...” I ran my hand through my sweat-soaked hair. My heart was still pounding.” And then?" What you mean?"
“That I understood the punch I received. During those days I thought a lot and it didn't make any difference to me whether you were a bloodthirsty animal or played video games with me every Saturday. He never did anything bad “except the punch he gave me “but it’s okay.” He was still picking at the bump on his nose.
“Sorry about that…” I wanted to stay longer to talk to Matheu, but if the wolves down there had already called Alpha…” You need to go. I don’t want you to stay here if they call Connor.” He got up.” Sorry about Philip. His word is valid. He’s only worried about the pack after we were attacked by hunters.” I pushed him towards the door and opened it again.
When we got down, everyone was talking and Philip was still there. I could hear the word human, danger and Connor. None of these reassured me.
"You two. They'll wait for Connor to arrive. I want this matter resolved now.” The redhead got up and approached me again.
"No. He needs to go.
“Why are you so scared?” Doesn’t Connor already know about his friend?” Do not worry. Unless you're afraid that our Alpha will make other decisions about the boy.
“With your big mouth?” Yes, I am afraid.” I was in the middle between him and Matheu. Until I heard the door slam and saw Sury coming in. My hero.
"I arrived." She looked at me and saw Matheu behind me.” Oh, Matheu...” She knew he knew. Everything was fine, right?”
"Hello." My friend replied.
“Sury, do you know about this?” That his friend knows about us.
“I’m aware and so is Connor.” I almost smiled in Philip’s face.” He’s not going to cause any trouble, is he?” Sury approached and Matheu shook his head.
“That’s where it is. There’s no way to know!” The redhead spoke loudly and took a step towards me.
“Philip, move away.” When I saw it, I had pushed him again. I heard the growl and then the sting in my spine like the time I transformed in front of Matheu.” This is unnecessary. Don't go near him again.
“Or what, Joseph?” My shoulders sagged, but I didn't look away from him. I didn't want to fight Philip, not really, but he was irritating me.
“Either... Or I...
“Or you nothing. You won’t fight.” Sury came in the middle.” Matheu is free to set foot in this house if Joseph wants. They are friends and Connor said Joseph was not to blame for what happened.
"And what happened?"
“He transformed himself unintentionally and Matheu saw it.
Philip grumbled and turned away.
“Can you at least wait for Connor to arrive?”
I looked at Mat to see if he would want it and despite his face being whiter than paper, he nodded. He remembered Connor, our Alpha had been nice to him.
"We can." I replied.
Susan
After lunch, Connor came back from the call and took a deep breath before putting the device in his pocket again. The clear eyes fell on me and then I saw that something was happening.
“I need to go to the pack’s house. It seems that Joseph's human friend is there and the wolves who were unaware of the situation became worried.
"Situation?" I asked and Connor looked at me, seeming to understand something that I didn't understand.
“When you were captured. Joseph ended up opening his mouth and said that Matheu had known about us for a few days. Joseph transformed and he saw. He thought the hunters had come because his friend knew.
“That’s why he looked so scared...” I could remember his hands shaking...” Poor thing... I’ll go along.” I hadn't seen any of them since I was captured and I needed to see them with my own eyes.
“I waited for you to come with me.” He came over and left a kiss on my face. His pheromones had already returned to normal again. I mean, as much as possible. For even after three days, Connor seemed insatiable every time he looked at me.
“That’s my cue, guys.” I heard Liphe get up from his chair.
At lunch he had asked to join Connor's pack and also thanked him for all his help. Apparently the ex-loner would open a bar on the outskirts and start a business. Maika seemed happy for him and Peter seemed pleased to have him away again.
“I hope you will be my eyes there.” Connor walked up to him and held out his hand.
“Of course, Alpha.” The two shook hands and then I felt it. The bond forming. It was the first time I felt something like that. Mutual loyalty.
Liphe came to me and extended his hand as well. I looked at him and then returned the squeeze as quickly as I could. I could feel the connection intensify and I opened my mouth in disbelief.
Was it real?” Was the pack bond they always said real?”
“It was a pleasure meeting you, Alpha.
“Thank you for helping Maika and our pack.
“She is a great friend. She couldn’t let it go.” I smiled and he walked to the door. He nodded to Peter and Maika walked him to the door.
“So Peter, are you coming with us?”
“No, I think I’ll go for a run now.” I nodded and went to put on my shoes. I picked up my coat and saw Connor waiting for me as he looked at his cell phone.
"Let's go.
When we parked in front of the pack house and got out, Connor took a deep breath as if breathing in that air he knew so well again for the first time. Until he came to me and held my hand.
“You don’t know how happy I am to step foot here with you again.” He looked at me.
“Don't talk like that...” I kissed him warmly and pulled my companion towards the entrance. It was as if he was avoiding going in just to enjoy the moment in the snow with me more. I couldn't let him do that. He had wolves in here worried.
When I opened the door, I first saw a mass of fur rolling on the floor. A large wolf almost the same color as me and a smaller white wolf that I immediately recognized. Sury shouted amidst the growls for the two to stop and the others tried to separate them without success.
“Stop now! Connor quickly entered. The wolves looked at us and so did Sury.” Joseph and Philip… You don’t want to be dominated now, do you?” ! ” I saw the two stop fighting at the same time and Joseph transformed first.
“Don’t insult me again, Philip!!” And then the other wolf transformed right after.
“Then don’t give orders to someone who is above you in the hierarchy!!” He shouted back and I realized they were close to docking again when I heard the vibrant growl from my side. I saw Connor staring at the two of them with red eyes.
“I said enough…” He approached and then I saw Sury look at me. Her eyes watered and she ran towards me.
“Susan...” She bumped into me and hugged me tightly.” How good it is well." That was a surprise to me.” I didn’t get a chance to thank you before, so I’m thanking you now.” I wrapped my arms around her too.” For saving Lori and Joseph. I only found out about what you did after you left.
"Everything is fine. We're even now. Connor told me you were there fighting too.” I pulled away and looked at his leg. Everything is fine?"
"It is." She cried. And soon I saw Joseph run towards me too when he noticed me in the room. He came to hug me and I ignored the fact that he was completely naked. He hugged me so tight he could knock the air out of me.
“I’m sorry Susan…I’m sorry. I could have helped you.
