Chapter 194
"Could not." I smoothed her hair and closed my eyes.” And everything is fine. I was grateful you stayed here.
“Like a coward.
“Just like a smart wolf.” He turned away from me and I saw his blue eyes shining with tears. I nodded slowly and he blinked trying to get rid of them.
“It’s time we talked, don’t you think?” Connor spoke and I saw Joseph tense up.” He knows that I don't allow fights here on the territory. Not among my own wolves.” And then I saw the human in the corner of the room looking at everything with tension.
I walked towards him slowly when I saw the other wolves staring at him in a way I didn't like.
“Hello... It’s okay, there’s no need to be scared.” I whispered. The smell on him was evident. It was no wonder since she had seen two wolves fight in front of her.
I exhaled deeply and looked back at the wolves who were staring at the human harshly.
“Why were they fighting?” Connor asked and looked at Philip. The fireplace was lit right behind them and there was a pile of firewood right next to it to keep it warm in the winter.
“Like I said, Joseph was facing me and giving orders.” He huffed in anger and looked away at the blonde.
“You insulted me first.” Joseph growled close to Sury. Who tried to stay in the middle to prevent them from fighting again.
“What did Philip say?” Connor asked firmly and Joseph swallowed hard. His skin was red and he was sweaty.
“That I'm nothing more than a weakling who doesn't care about the pack. That I walk alongside humans and turn my back on our race.” His eyes filled with tears again. Connor growled and looked at Philip with narrowed eyes.
"Why did you say that?" She approached him and even I feared what she seemed to be about to do.” Joseph saved my companion from being shot. Your Alpha, Philip.” They were face to face now.” You are already an adult wolf and it is a shame for you to belittle someone's strength knowing about their past and the difficulties they went through.
“Forgive me Alpha.” He lowered his head.” But our secret is now in the hands of a human teenager.
“A teenager whom Joseph trusts. That I trust. A teenager who is here even after witnessing his ignorance.” He grunted and I felt Joseph's friend move closer to me.” I'm grateful for his concern for the pack, but it wasn't Joseph's fault for transforming in front of his friend. Apologize to him now.
“Sorry, my Alpha.” I saw Philip's shoulders lower even more as he looked at Joseph.” Sorry, brother.” Joseph nodded.
“Matthew.” Connor turned to us.” You know very well that I’m putting my trust in you, don’t you?” I hope I don't regret it. I won't think twice about doing justice if our secret is in danger.
“I promise I won’t open my mouth.
"That is great. And if I hear next time that one of you threatened him or any other brother in the pack, I won't be so benevolent, understand?” Everyone nodded at the same time.” Excellent. The rules remain the same.
I sighed in relief and he looked at me. Connor seemed to notice my reaction as he approached and left a kiss on my forehead before winking at Matheu.
“Now go put on some clothes.” Sury said.” Lori is coming here.
Peter
Finally that loner was gone and I had my companion's attention all to myself again.
I was helping her tidy up her room and the rest of the things that were disorganized after that wolf left.
I could smell the sweet apricot scent. Pure and exciting. Maika was happy. And that made me radiant.
I finished arranging the sheets and as I had my hands resting on the mattress, I looked to the side and noticed Maika putting the pillowcases on the pillows. I leaned over and kissed her shoulder and then went up a little more to kiss her neck because I loved seeing her get goosebumps.
When I looked at his face, I saw his beautiful smile and those blue eyes looking at me.
“Come run with me.” I spoke." I’ve never been on your side in your wolf form before.” She looked at me and nodded before bending down and kissing my lips.
Half an hour later I was already transformed, smelling of cold snow while waiting for Maika on the porch. I heard the floorboards creaking and saw her appearing when I looked back.
Maika had transformed inside because she couldn't bear to feel the cold on her bare skin. And seeing that gray wolf with sparkling blue eyes was like looking at the full moon on a spring night. It was like smelling the dew and rolling in wild grass. It was like literally finding true love and being loved back.
She was beautiful.
Thunderous in a way that not everyone could notice. So elegant that it took all the air out of my chest. Brave as being in the middle of a sea of wasps. Brave as a lone wolf.
My partner. My hero.
"Do not look at me like that." ” And hearing her voice in my head was like being slapped in the face without warning. A painfully good slap.
“Now I think I’ve gone crazy…” ” She laughed.
"Susan told me she could talk to Connor when she was transformed."
“Shit, is this real?” "
"Real and unbelievable..."
She approached me and licked my nose before jumping down the small stairs. She sniffed the snow like I had done seconds ago and continued walking, waiting for me to follow her. And that's what I did.
Soon I was by his side again. She was a foot shorter than me, but beautiful in a way that I couldn't stop looking at.
Remembering her in that form, fighting her brother that day, bloodied and bruised, filled me with dread even now.
"We haven't talked about our future yet."
She wanted to know about our future... Nothing could fill me more with joy.
“And what do you want for our future?” "
The gray wolf looked at me and got closer until she pressed her fur against mine.
"A home."
"Stop trying to make me emotional. You can choose any place to stay and I'll stay with you."
"Your father wants you back and your sister didn't want you to go. I heard some of your conversation. It's up to you."
I looked at the white landscape and at the gentle flakes that fell and were lost on the white carpet.
"I told her I would come visit every weekend if we went there."
"Then it's decided. I'd love to see the place where you grew up."
Maika rubbed her head and soft ears against me affectionately and I nuzzled my nose against hers. Until she let go of me and started running in front of me. At a speed that would be easy to reach. My wolf smiled. I smiled.
So I pressed my paws to the ground and went after her.
