Chapter 196 The Great Escape Part 1
Chapter 196 The Great Escape Part 1
???'s POV
Dazed and disoriented, Freya studied the white-haired woman who was inching closer to her. Her curvaceous body with her silver hair and milky eyes made her a looker. She was beautiful, but there was something so familiar about the woman, like she'd met her before.
Isis paused when she noticed Freya's confused stare. "It is I, child. Isis."
"Wait, what? But you're supposed to be old." Freya gasped.
"That's because she did something bad," another voice made it through the rubble. Isis's gaze shot to the slender woman, pushing her body up off the ground and dusting the debris off her clothes.
"Prudence!" Isis yelped.
"Hello, Isis," Prudence grinned. Tears pooled in her eyes as she pushed past her sister and fell into Isis's arms.
"Oh, my child," Isis cried. "You're alive."
"Yes. I am."
"Wait, I don't understand. How do you look so young and fresh?" Freya wanted to know.
"Forget about that and come give me a hug," Isis declared.
Freya rushed and dove into Isis's arms. "I'm so happy to be free. I missed you, Godmother."
"And I've missed you both," Isis kissed their foreheads.
"A little help over here," Layla whined, throwing one of Igna's arms over her shoulder as she tried to get him to stand. Another creature groaned beneath Igna's body, and that was when they all realized that the muscular dragon was lying on top of someone else.
"Get off me!" the creature yelled. He rolled to his side as soon as Igna was on his feet. "Thank you," the merman huffed, scrambling to his feet.
"King Ozone?" Isis gently pushed the two sisters from her arms and walked up to the merman.
"Hello Isis," he greeted.
"Can somebody explain to me what the fuck is going on?" Zander stepped forward. "Hello again, Prudence," he bowed to the witch.
"Alpha Zander!" Prudence hugged him. "This is my sister Freya."
"Hey," Freya waved, and Zander nodded.
"How did you guys get here?" Zander asked.
"We rode the dragon," Ozone answered.
Igna groaned.
"Let's go inside, and then we can all talk about this," Dreadwing stated.
James rested quietly next to Declan on a tiny bolder. They were anxious, waiting to hear about how the four creatures escaped from Lucifer's clutches.
Ignalothon sat between Layla and Scorch, who were assuring him that Seraphina was OK. Igna wanted to go to her, but his King told him he could do so after he relayed to them what happened. His eyes landed on Julia finally, after he realized his King had her sitting on his lap. His senses heightened, and he realized their Queen had come.
Isis sat next to Hazel, who was too weak to talk. She rested her head on Isis's shoulder, while Zander paced the floor.
The two blue-haired witches were sipping on a warm concoction that Isis brewed for them.
Carson and Dimitri were worried, they were dreading the information. They both thought if Zoey was alive, then why didn't she make it out with the others?
Dimitri's heart got colder. He strode over to Prudence and slapped the mug from her lips. His eyes were blood-red. "You've drunk enough, now tell me what happened?" He fumed. "Where the fuck is my mate?" He yelled. Carson had to pull him back before he sliced one of the witch's heads off.
Igna stood up. "You are Dimitri, yes?"
"Yes, I am."
"Zoey is alive, but -"
"But what? Why didn't she escape with you?" Zander questioned.
"She couldn't. She saved us, but she said she couldn't leave the child," Prudence added.
"What child?" Dimitri grunted.
"Hey, man. Let's just relax and hear them out." Carson steered Dimitri to take a seat. He massaged the vampire's shoulders. "Your muscles are so tensed. Just take a deep breath and let them tell us what took place."
Dimitri flashed him a heavy look. "Is this a joke, Carson? I am a vampire, I don't breathe."
"Either way, he's right," Zander intervened. "We need to relax and learn what transpired."
"Igna, you want to go first?" Dreadwing said, so Igna told them the tale of how they made their great escape.
A FEW HOURS EARLIER
"Amazing," Lucifer murmured. Black fur covered a six-foot monster. Her eyes were scarlet red and burned with hatred as they fixated on Lucifer.
The beast howled like a wolf, but its teeth were fangs instead of canines. Its massive ears wiggled, reacting to Lucifer's joyous laugh.
"Zoey," Titus whispered, not believing his eyes. Never had he seen such a creature. The beast's head flashed toward Titus, who was released by the goons. Zoey's transformation distracted them.
"He's afraid of us," Malia spoke in Zoey's head.
"But I won't hurt them. I am still me."
Suddenly, Zoey's stomach twisted in a painful knot, and she let out a groan.
Dimly, she registered the sound of footfalls approaching behind her, and then a shadow fell on the floor. She slowly turned around to see Ozone crouched in a kneeling position with his palms flat on the ground.
Her gut clenched again, a solid wave of rage pulsing through her body. A sudden ache in her mouth caused her fangs to vibrate in her gums.
She lagged closer to Ozone, hypnotized by the veins beneath his skin. She could hear the rapid beat of his heart, excitement kicking her own heart into overdrive. Zoey could smell the sweet tang of the merman's blood, and it made her mouth water.
"The hybrid wants a sip," Lucifer mused. His face twisted in wicked fascination.
"You must consume blood soon, or you will die," Ozone spoke, extending his neck up to her. "If you are anything like a bitten vampire, you will need blood on your first turn or your organs will wither, and you will die."
"The Fishman is right, but I'm afraid his juice won't do. You'll have to drink human blood, and I'm sorry I'm all out of those," Lucifer chuckled. But Zoey was too busy tracking the movements of Ozone's neck. His skin seemed so shiny and smelt slightly of salt, but not enough to mask the delicious scent of blood pulsating from his veins.
She was so hungry, dark spots danced in front of her eyes. She couldn't bite him. She knew if she did she might kill him. She pulled away so hard she fell backward, falling with a thud on the floor. Something cold and wet soaked her fur.
The essence of it easily trickled up her snout and into her nostrils. She lifted her hand and sucked the residue off her palm. The taste made her livid. In a quick turn on her hands and knees, Zoey licked up the pool of blood on the floor. She was thankful that Lucifer left the human to bleed out on the ground.
The instant the juice touched her heart, Zoey's muscles grew in front of them. Her senses slowly came back, and she felt disgusted with herself.
Titus walked over to her. "Zoey, my girl. Are you still in there?"
Zoey looked up at the beady-eyed snake-man and nodded her head. He gasped in relief.
"Well then. I guess I've finally found what I've been looking for all these years," Lucifer sighed. "Guards, take the others away and prepare them for extraction. I'm going to need all my strength to drain this one." Lucifer turned his back to his captives. "Let's go, Amy. I demand your help with the preparations."
"Yes, King Lucifer," the red-headed harlot answered. But Zoey knew exactly what he would do to her newfound friends. She wouldn't allow Lucifer to kill them. Without thinking clearly, anger clouded her mind. Zoey's beast lunged, knocking King Lucifer to the ground.
"Guards!" He yelled, trying to point his fingers, so he could cast a spell, but the beast was too heavy. He couldn't get a clear shot.
Malia opened her mouth and bit a chunk out of the wicked man's shoulder. Lucifer screamed in agony. He mustered enough strength to kick the beast off him. Malia went sailing into the giants.
"You'll pay for that," Lucifer grunted. He pulled a sword from one of the guards, who was just staring in complete disarray. "Useless cunts," Lucifer said before swiping the blade across the young guard's neck. He strode over to Zoey. "If I didn't need you, I'd kill you right now," he pointed the blade at a naked Zoey. She tried to trigger her transformation again, but Malia told her she needed more human blood. He got closer to her. He used the tip of the blade to move the hair from her eye.
"Fuck you," Zoey wailed, spitting in Lucifer's face.
The wizard laughed. "Maybe I've tortured you for so long that you have become immune to my beatings. But there are many ways of hurting you without touching a strand on your pretty little head."
Zoey read him well. "Dimitria," she whispered. "She's just a child."
"How dare you," Lucifer hissed. "Chelsea is mine, and I would never hurt her."
