Chapter 187 – The Lies I’m Willing to Tell
Chapter 187 – The Lies I’m Willing to Tell
I was going through documents, trying to make sense of everything that had been happening.
I was trying to focus but the phone kept ringing. Then I picked it up.
“Yes?”
“Sir…”
The voice on the other end was shaking. Fearful.
My grip tightened slightly. “What is it?”
“There’s been… a situation.”
My heart dropped. “What situation?”
“All twenty–seven gifted betas… they’re gone.”
For a second, I thought I heard wrong.
“What?”
“They were moved, sir and we don’t know where they are now.”
My chest tightened. “How is that possible?” I asked.
“We’re still trying to…”
I didn’t let him finish. I ended the call immediately.
My jaw clenched, my mind was racing. There was only one person, one person stupid enough to do this.
I dialed Damien's number instantly. It rang once then twice. Before he picked up.
“Jasper.”
His voice was calm. I didn’t waste time.
“It seems to me you’re not in enough trouble with Edward,” I snapped. “Now you want to be in my bad book too?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I just got information,” I continued, my voice rising, “that all twenty–seven of my gifted betas have been moved to a location I don’t know. How is that possible?” I demanded. “What is going on?”
Then Damien laughed.
“You have to figure that out,” he said mockingly. “I thought you were smart.”
My grip tightened on the phone.
“How come you can’t put one or two together and figure out what is going on?”
My eyes darkened. “So… you stole my gifted betas?”
I didn’t even wait for him to confirm.
“Are you trying to sell them?” I continued. “Get money and escape Edward?”
Then Damien replied. “Well… that could be a good idea.”
That was it. That was all I needed.
“Damien,” I said, my voice low and deadly, “you need to bring back all twenty–seven of my gifted betas right now or you’re going to be in serious trouble.”
“No. I won’t do that.” Damien replied. The word came out like it's final.
My brows pulled together. “What did you just say?”
“I said no,” Damien repeated. “You should forget about those gifted betas.”
My anger rose instantly.
“They’re not yours anymore.”
My grip tightened so hard my knuckles turned white.
“What?”
“They’re mine now,” he
continued casually. “Besides… I’ve been the one running the business all this time.”I clenched my jaw.
“My father served your family,” Damien went on. “I served your family.”
His voice hardened. “I’m tired of serving. So now,” he added, “those gifted betas are mine.”
My chest burned with anger.
“Damien, don’t be stupid,” I snapped. “You don’t understand what you’re doing.”
“Oh, I understand perfectly,” he replied.
“You’re making a mistake,” I warned. “Bring them back! They belong to me!”
But before I could say anything else, the line went dead.
He hung up on me. I stared at my phone. For a second, I couldn’t move. I couldn't believe what I just witnessed.
“Damn it!” My chest rose and fell rapidly. Anger, pure anger.
Damien had crossed the line, a very dangerous line at that.
And now, he was going to pay for it. I grabbed my phone again and called someone very important. Alpha Dominic.
I dialed the number immediately. He picked up after a few rings.
“Jasper.”
“Alpha Dominic,” I said quickly. “I need to see you. Today.”
Silence.
“What is so urgent that you have to see me today?” he asked.
“I’ll explain when I get there,” I replied.
Another pause.
“Fine. Come to my house.”
“I’m on my way.” I ended the call immediately and grabbed my keys and walked out of the room.
This was bigger than Damien now. Much bigger.
The drive felt longer than usual. Even though I sped through most of it.
My mind was racing, calculating and planning.
If Damien wanted to play games, fine.
I would play better. I will show him how it's done.
By the time I got to Ironclaws territory, the sun was already high.
Guards stood at the entrance. They let me in without much delay.
I drove straight to Alpha Dominic’s residence.
A large, imposing building. Strong, just like his reputation.
I stepped out of the car and I walked inside.
He was already waiting.
“Jasper,” he said.
“Alpha Dominic,” I replied.
He gestured for me to sit.
“What is so urgent,” he asked, “that you had to drive all the way here?”
I sat down and took a breath. “I have a proposal,” I said.
He leaned back slightly. “What kind of proposal?”
I paused for a moment. Then spoke carefully.
“I know the kind of man you are,” I started. “A man of principle.”
He didn’t interrupt.
“Your pack is known for preserving the culture,” I continued. “For honoring your ancestors. For being true to the Moon Goddess.”
His eyes narrowed slightly.
“And for maintaining a good reputation.”
Silence.
“That’s why I came to you,” I said.
He leaned forward slightly. “What is it?”
I met his gaze. “Alpha Edward is not who he says he is.”
The words hung in the air for a few seconds.
Alpha Dominic didn’t react immediately. He just watched me carefully.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
I didn’t hesitate. “He’s a bastard. His father slept with a maid,” I continued, my voice steady. “That’s how Edward was born.”
Alpha Dominic’s expression shifted slightly.
“That means he’s not a true blood,” I added. “And he shouldn’t be ruling the Silverpine Pack.”
A long pause followed.
“That’s a serious claim.”
“I know.”
“Do you have proof?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said.
“What proof?”
“The Book of Bloodlines.”
His brows lifted slightly. “Do you have it?”
A small pause. “Not yet.”
Silence followed.
“But I will,” I added quickly. “And when I do, I’ll use it to prove that Edward has no right to that throne.”
Alpha Dominic leaned back, thinking.
“Fine,” he said after a moment. “When you have the book… we’ll look at it.”
I nodded.
Then he added, “I heard about the white wolf.”
My jaw tightened slightly. “Yes.”
“They say she emerged in Edward’s mansion.”
“That’s correct.”
A pause.
“And they also say… she is bonded to him.”
My chest tightened.
“They say the Moon Goddess has already paired them,” Alpha Dominic said. “That she is his fated mate.”
I shook my head immediately. “That’s a lie.”
“People saw it,” he said calmly.
“They were mistaken,” I replied. “Or deceived.”
He studied me.
“What if she refuses and rejects you as the ruling Alpha?” he asked.
I didn’t hesitate.
“She won’t.”
“Why?”
A small smile formed on my lips. “Because I have her brother.”
Alpha Dominic’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Felix,” I added. “I have him,” I continued. “And as long as I do… she’ll do exactly what I want.”
Another pause. Then Alpha Dominic replied.
“Fine,” Alpha Dominic said. “Bring the Book of Bloodlines.”
I nodded.
“Let’s see your evidence,” he added. “Then we’ll know what to do next.”
I stood up slowly. “Thank you,” I said.
“You're welcome.” He responded.
Then I walked out, got into my car and drove off. Now everything depended on that book.
