Chapter Eight
Chapter Eight
Daniel's POV
We arrived at the mine and saw that a few people were trying to pour water to douse the fire and I almost tore out my hair in anger. Were they blind not to see where the fire was coming from? I would have expected more from them.
"Someone should get to the switch and turn it off. move away from the burner!" I yelled and thankfully, the person moved. I was almost screaming that certain people didn't have the kind of sense that I needed from them.
It was almost as if they were not thinking straight. After they did as I was instructed, the fire was put out and I shook my head in distaste. After making me run all the way to the end of the mine only to see that it was something that could have been prevented?
Jake was breathing laboriously from running for just a short distance and I was a bit pissed if not entirely pissed even. "I'm sorry, Alpha. We would try to salvage the ruins." He replied.
"Everyone, go home while the top dogs, you know yourself already, don't go anywhere. Make sure that this place is cleaned up and we find the person who set off that switch." I replied
I didn't need any soothsayer to tell me that someone was totally behind this. It was just something that I knew that I was sure of and I was going to make sure that I caught them.
I walked around the compound trying to pick up any clues that would lead me to catching the culprit.
My eyes suddenly wandered to the drain and saw a chain being pulled by the torrent of the water overflowing from the fountain. I trudged carefully toward it while waiting to see what would happen to it.
The more I advanced toward the watch like a magnet, it moved away slowly and I looked away for a minute. I didn't want anyone to suspect that there was any issue arising from any angle.
I stepped on the chain as it was about to be eroded, causing a great splash which I didn't mind as long as I got the results that I needed. " Alpha, is everything okay?" Jake called and I leveled him with a withering glare that made him stop speaking.
I picked the chain up and saw an insignia on it.
A.
What was the name of the person who had the audacity to come over here and try to cause confusion in the camp. That was a bad idea because I was going to ruin them and make sure that they never live to see the light of the next day.
I lifted the piece to my nose trying to identify the scent seeing that I was a lycan. It was faint due to the smoke that emitted from the mine. That person must have capitalized on the smoke and didn't wait to pick up their belongings.
If I was an arsonist, where would I run to avoid being caught? The end of the forest.
I headed in the opposite direction of the mine with a small smile on my face as I stared around trying to understand the patterns that the person might be following seeing that they might be strangers.
I would go through the forest first and wait till there's nothing else coming from the other side. There would also be something like a compass guiding me so that I didn't lose my way. That would be a very bad idea if I did.
After walking towards the creek, I saw a pattern of footsteps. The person must have been trying to be as careful as possible but it didn't end well. He was a sloppy culprit. No one could tell me otherwise because explain why someone would just decide to be stupid about letting his footprints show.
I trudged toward the slope carefully and waited till there was nothing else to hold on. I lifted my nose and sniffed the air. It smelt exactly the way I thought it would.
Blanche.
The person had fallen off the hill.
"Search under the hills. We should find something." I commanded Jake who rushed off.
It was going to be a long search but there was something I was sure of. He couldn't know these hills like we did. It was only if we didn't want to get involved with the happenings.
"Make sure that you catch the man with the big foot." I told him and walked to the side of the hill overlooking various packs. It was no small feat to achieve the status of occupying this position. It was better than being in the lowlands.
As I walked back towards the house I saw a little flicker of light coming from the houses. They hadn't put out all the fires and I was pissed.
I hadn't had the time to go into the establishment to see what and what needed some major adjustment.
After thorough inspection, I found out that it wasn't something serious and that there was only one way to know what actually happened. It was through asking around and finding out a detailed eye witness.
Footsteps interrupted my thoughts and I looked upward with a frown on my face as I stared at the culprit. The one who possessed the audacity to come to me.
"Yes?"
"I-i'm sorry sir but we weren't able to find anyone down those cliffs. They are pretty slippery. I don't think that anyone must have climbed down and escaped plus we saw some rabid wolves on the way."
A guard explained and I only stared at their naivety. How would they ever know that there was a person there if they didn't check all the areas.
"And if I manage to find the man?" I replied, causing visible chills all over his body.
"I hope you give me a good answer because I truly won't entertain anything lesser than finding that man and beheading him."
