You have to go to her
You have to go to her
SERENA’S POV
“The only werewolf that has a cure to what is going on with Dean is the Witch Queen,” I was lectured.
Alpha Bernard was here with us, and he had just heard for himself what the young lady he brought had to say. I didn’t see those words of hers coming.
The Witch Queen shouldn’t be the only one that could do something about my brother’s condition. I had high hopes, and it was painful to see my hope dashed away just like that.
“If you want your brother to go back to how he used to be, you might have to go to her,” she went on.
To me, it felt as though she wasn’t ready to help. In the pack’s archives, I found a book about spells, and when I read it, I realized that a healer could help out.
Alpha Bernard claimed he knew a healer and called for her. Now, she had just said that she wouldn’t be able to help. Did the book tell a lie?
“There has to be another way,” Alpha Bernard said to her.
I agreed with him. There had to be something else that could be done besides me visiting the Witch Queen. She stood to her feet, and I might just know what time it was.
It could be that she knew what to do and was only scared of what the Witch Queen would do if she helped Dean. The scary part of this was that time wasn’t on our side.
“I thought you said she has healing abilities,” I confronted Alpha Bernard. Maybe she didn’t even have healing powers.
“She does have healing abilities, but I didn’t...”
“I can’t heal someone who is under the influence of a spell,” the healer chimed in. She dared to interrupt Alpha Bernard while he was speaking.
My fingers landed on my forehead while the healer mumbled inaudibly. It usually wasn’t hot here in the penthouse, but I was feeling hot, extremely hot.
Alpha Bernard didn’t act as though what the healer said was a big deal, and I couldn’t blame him. The werewolf in question didn’t happen to be his brother or a relative.
“There’s no way I’m going to her,” I said aloud.
“Think about your brother again. Peace be unto you,” the healer replied.
Without bidding farewell to me or to the Alpha, she walked out of the penthouse. It was said that they were spiritual beings, hence why they didn’t respect the Alphas.
Alpha Bernard sat while I remained standing. I didn’t know of any other healer, or I would have been on my way to them right now just to seek help for my brother.
“The witches are now spelling pack members. They’ve stopped spelling only the pack soldiers,” Alpha Bernard muttered.
I cared about the pack members, but I had something bigger to deal with. If anything happened to Dean, I might never be able to forgive myself.
Alpha Basil had just returned from wherever he went. I could see him from the penthouse. He didn’t go with his car, neither did he allow the guards to go with him.
Ever since Dean had been locked up in the dungeon, he hadn’t said a word to me. He didn’t bother to ask if I had found a cure to the spell or if I needed his help.
Dean had the best interest of the pack at heart, and he was busy fighting for the pack when he was spelled. Alpha Basil seemed to have forgotten that, and I wasn’t ready to lecture him.
“If you ask me, I think you should go. My bad, I think we should go to the Witch Queen.”
He said those words after our eyes locked for a second. If I were to give him a response, I would tell him that I didn’t ask him. Going to the Witch Queen wasn’t it for me.
Alpha Basil was headed for the penthouse. He was on his way to have a word with his brother about something that didn’t concern the witches and the pack members.
“We get a cure for what is happening to Dean, and then we turn against them again and keep fighting them. Someday, we’ll be able to get rid of them, and it would serve as revenge for your parents.”
I pondered on his words because I had nothing else to ponder on. Going to the Witch Queen for a solution to Dean’s predicament and later going against them didn’t sound bad.
“I heard you say something about the witches. Is there a problem?” Alpha Basil stepped in.
“Where have you been?” his brother challenged him.
“I went to the coffee shop. I went to grab a cup of coffee.”
“You seem to have forgotten about what is happening in the pack. No coffee shop is open,” Alpha Bernard remarked.
Alpha Bernard said my mind. The witches and the rogues were about to take over the pack, and it made everyone stay back in their houses so they wouldn’t become victims.
“Does where I go matter?”
“Yes, it does. What if you never return to the mansion and I have to look for you? Where would I go?” Alpha Bernard replied.
I didn’t know if it was the same with Alpha Bernard, but it was glaring to me that Alpha Basil lied about where he went and wasn’t interested in speaking the truth.
“This is the fourth time you’ll be stepping out this week without your guards and your driver. Is there something you aren’t telling me?” Alpha Bernard questioned.
My wolf and I had no idea that it had become a norm for Alpha Basil to leave the mansion without his guards. He had what it took to protect himself, so his twin shouldn’t worry.
If I were Alpha Bernard, I would tail him instead of asking him questions that he would never respond to. Alpha Bernard hadn’t stopped asking him questions.
I stepped out of the penthouse. I needed some peace and quiet, and I could no longer get that in the penthouse. The Alpha twins had made it toxic already.
“Do you think I should go with what Alpha Bernard suggested?” I asked Aria.
“The witches aren’t stupid, I need you to know that,” she howled.
“Dean mustn’t die. He can’t die.”
“If the moon goddess still needs him alive, he won’t die,” she howled.
This wasn’t the time for Aria to be so spiritual. All I wanted from her was what to do and not some pep talk about the moon goddess and her needs.
I did cry to her when Dean was freshly spelled, and she did nothing. All I asked was for him to be healed. I even asked that I be cursed with the spell instead.
“The door didn’t have to suffer,” Aria growled after I slammed the door.
I went straight to the mirror and looked at myself in it. I looked like a mess, but that was the least of my worries at the moment. I shouldn’t look good while my brother suffered.
Alpha Bernard’s suggestion refused to leave my head even though Aria was against it. I might just be able to play smart on the rising coven of witches.
I looked to the table beside me and found two brown envelopes on it. They were letters from Shaun that I refused to read for reasons known to me.
“What do you think is going through Shaun’s mind at the moment?” I asked Aria. She had a thing with his wolf and might just have the response to my question.
I picked one of the letters after Aria acted as though I didn’t just ask her a question. It was time for me to find out about its content. I might read only one and not both.
“Is this the one brought to me by the maiden who claimed a werewolf gave it to her on the way to the training ground?” I asked myself while staring at the envelope in my hand.
I was reluctant to read the letter and only planned to read one out of the two because I might not be able to process the content of both. It would be too much for me.
The last letter he sent me before he resumed again talked about how he regretted meeting me and having something to do with me. I still hadn’t been able to heal from those words.
Both letters most definitely contained hurtful words also, and for my own good, it would be best not to read both or it might mess up my mental health.
“It doesn’t matter who brought the letter, whether it’s the maiden that just started working in the mansion or the guard who usually brings me letters.”
I gulped loudly and unfolded the piece of paper I brought out of the brown envelope. I held on to it tightly because my hands started to tremble all of a sudden.
