He is not immune
He is not immune
SERENA'S POV
“Dean!” I screamed at the top of my voice from where I stood.
I had searched for him with my eyes but I couldn’t find him. I saw Alpha Bernard and was quick to take my eyes off him. I didn’t come back here for him.
The witches were still doing their thing with the pack soldiers and I hoped my brother hadn’t become a victim of their spell. If that was the case, Alpha Bernard wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of him.
I managed to stay calm a little. I could have gone to the training ground but I didn’t do that. I was here to save Dean and for that to happen, I must not be a victim of the witches’ spell.
“The once peaceful woods now feel alive with dark magic. The moon goddess shouldn’t have buried the spells!” a witch roared.
She was far away from me, but it sounded as though she was very close. It didn’t seem like they had plans to stop casting spells on the pack soldiers anytime soon.
Many warriors had fallen before the sun even rose. Those who Alpha Bernard hadn’t been able to kill had become something worse, something scary.
Their bodies moved, but their eyes glowed green. Their souls were no longer theirs but the witches’, thanks to the spell. The witches called it possession.
“If you’re under twenty, leave the training ground right now!” Amidst the chanting of the witches, Alpha Bernard screamed.
Those words of his weren’t the solution to what was going on. The spell wasn’t mindful of age and he knew that, and also, the majority of the pack soldiers would be over twenty.
What the witches were doing was simple. They were taking control of any wolf’s body, twisting their mind, and making them fight against their own pack.
“Serena!” Alpha Bernard screamed. He was sprinting toward me already.
I needed not be told that he was on his way to scold me for not returning to the mansion like he wanted. I took my eyes away from his direction and went back to searching for my brother.
I noticed something. None of the witches or the already possessed pack soldiers came for me. It couldn’t be that none of them had caught sight of me.
“History will never forget you, hero,” I heard Alpha Bernard say. He then proceeded to slit the throat of a pack soldier with his sword.
My eyes couldn’t take it, but there was nothing I could do to help the situation. Actually, there was something I could do, and it was dancing to the tune of the witches, killing one of the Alphas to be precise.
I didn’t want to become a tool of the witches, so I still refused to kill one of the Alphas even though I didn’t care about any of them. Besides, the witches killed my parents, so I shouldn’t have a relationship with them.
“I asked you to leave for the mansion. I saw you leave. Why are you here again?” Alpha Bernard eventually got to me.
His whole body reeked of blood and it made my wolf howl. I hadn’t been able to give in to her for the longest time and yes, my wolf might have gone dormant again.
Throughout my stay in Shaun’s pack, she was dormant, but the minute I arrived at the pack’s border, she stirred and was able to take over from me after I stepped into the pack.
“Serena!” he screamed my name. He got back my attention by doing that.
My eyes were only on his face, my thoughts were somewhere else. I was worried for myself, my brother, and the pack citizens all at once.
“Do you need me to see you off to the mansion?”
“Let go of me,” I roared. With his blood-stained hand, he had gripped my ankle.
He did let go of me the minute I roared. His bloody hand was slippery, but it wasn’t the reason he let go. Our eyes met shortly after I roared.
“I can’t leave without my brother. He’s all I’ve got,” I informed him. I needed him to let me be so I could focus on searching for my brother.
“Listen, you have to save yourself first. What if your brother is in the mansion already?”
“I don’t know the kind of relationship you have with your brother, but my brother wouldn’t leave without ensuring I’m safe,” I lectured him.
“You have to leave. Your...”
“Have you killed my brother like you’ve killed so many pack soldiers?” I chimed.
“Stop making it sound as if I enjoy killing them for my selfish interest. I’m not a vampire,” he spoke in his defense, but that wasn’t the response to my question.
“Have you killed him? Tell me.”
“What? No!” he replied.
I didn’t feel bad for just accusing him of killing my brother. I knew he would have done it if my brother had been possessed by the spell of the witches.
“I didn’t kill your brother,” he said.
If he had confessed to killing my brother, I would have killed him right here and now without hesitating. I would never understand that he did the right thing killing the soldiers.
“I’ll suggest you let me be or maybe even go in search of your brother. He has been missing since all of this started.” I didn’t like that he was distracting me, so I told him.
“I don’t need to be worried about him,” he bragged. That was what it appeared to me as, bragging.
I knew it. I knew that he didn’t care about his brother. It was why it was so easy for him to order that I leave even after I told him I was here for my brother.
“He’s immune to the spell. I’m immune also. If any of the witches confront me and chant for minutes or even hours, nothing would happen to me,” he lectured. He had the time to lecture me amidst the ongoing chaos.
I noticed that with the pack soldiers, the witches only had to chant for seconds before they became possessed. Once they became possessed, the first thing they did was let out a loud shout.
I kind of knew that he and his brother would be immune to the spell. I saw it coming. Unlike him, I needed to be worried about my brother. We weren’t immune to spells.
My eyes were back on the training ground. Alpha Bernard had taken steps away from me to go attack a pack soldier who had been possessed.
“Dean,” I muttered.
I had just caught sight of his back view. He was physically attacking a witch, and I needed not be told that a spell would be cast on him anytime soon.
As fast as my legs could carry me, I began running. I needed to be there on time or I would end up mourning him like I mourned my parents.
I didn’t care if I had what it took to rescue him or not. All I knew was that I wanted him out of there. I wasn’t immune to their spell, but I was still on my way to save my brother.
“Serena, the Witch Queen’s candidate,” a witch showed up from nowhere and said. She caused me to stop sprinting because she obstructed my way.
My heart raced and my hands trembled at the same time. What if she cast a spell on me and I ended up getting possessed? I wouldn’t be able to save my brother that way.
We were both standing close to a tall tree. Attacking her physically wasn’t an option because of the spell. I managed to look in the direction I saw Dean earlier, but he was nowhere to be found.
I wanted to leave to go in search of my brother, but it felt like my legs were glued to the ground. The witch carried an aura that I couldn’t comprehend.
“Won’t you ask me why you’re immune to the spell just like Alpha Bernard and Alpha Basil?” she questioned.
“Immune,” I spoke to my wolf. I doubted the meaning of that word for more than a second.
“Don’t tell me you had no idea you are immune to the spell. Why do you think you haven’t been possessed ever since you showed up here?”
From her words, I realized that I was also immune to the spell. But why? No ritual was performed for me unlike Alpha Bernard and Alpha Basil.
“If I were you, I’d watch my back. I mean, take a look at my back,” she said, blew me a kiss, and began to walk away.
Indirectly, she had just asked me to look back, and I did just that. About four steps away from me was Dean. His eyes glowed bright green, and his mouth curved into a smile that wasn’t his.
