The smell of Rogue
The smell of Rogue
SERENA’S POV
“Careful” Alpha Basil muttered,
My hand was in his and he was two steps ahead of me, I had just finished climbing a mountain and all I could do was heave a deep sigh of relief.
Aria was excited the Alpha Basil and I were holding hands, it was the first time we were doing that and I gave him my hand because he requested it,
I didn’t want to be rude by refusing so I reluctantly gave it to him and we were here in the woods searching for a rogue that would help us out.
“I still can’t believe he came with me,” I told Aria,
“He would do anything for you but you aren’t seeing that” Her response, I didn’t expect a better response.
Often, I stare at my hand in his and then I also think about Shaun. I had a whole lot in my head and a part of me couldn’t wait to be done with getting Dean out of prison.
Alpha Basil and I had been motioning in the woods for close to an hour and we still hadn’t seen the traces of a rogue or even a rogue.
I was beginning to lose hope but Aria kept on assuring me that Alpha Basil got this, he probably knew another abode of the rogues aside from the one we burnt down.
“Let me know when you’re tired” he broke the silence.
“What will you do when I get tired?” Curiosity made me ask,
“I will have you…” he swallowed the rest of his words for reasons best known to him.
“Go on, I’m all ears” I urged him,
“Never mind, just let me know when that happens” his response, no amount of pestering would make him tell me so I didn’t bother to pester him.
“If you’re so curious, tell him you’re tired and see what he’ll do” Aria growled,
“What if he plans to have me hop on his back?” I asked, that might be his plan and it wasn’t lovely.
He held on to my hand tighter and that sent a strange sensation down my body, it had better not be that the bond between us was doing its thing.
“I trusted him so much to come here with him, what if he has other plans for me?” I spoke to Aria,
“Yes, you trusted him and no, he doesn’t have other plans for you” Like she always does, she supported him.
If he dares to try anything funny with me at a point, I won’t hesitate to remind him of how strong I’ve always been from childhood.
We kept on sauntering and very soon, the moonlight would be out, Aria would be so happy to take over from me and his wolf might also be excited to take over from him.
I would be so glad if we could get back to the mansion before the moonlight is out, that way Alpha Basil and I won’t be together so Aria won’t get the chance to spend time with his wolf.
“How long more do we have to motion for?” I just had to ask, the journey seemed to be an endless one already.
“Is that a way of telling me you are tired?” He responded to my question with a question and it wasn’t a cool thing to do,
“No. You seem to have forgotten that I’m very strong” I boasted.
“My superwoman, pardon me for forgetting” he jibed and I caught myself laughing,
The minute I did, I stopped laughing, it was the first time his words would make me laugh, all his words did in the past was make me cry and hate myself.
I clenched my fist and wore a frown, this would be the first and the last time I would ever find his words funny, he and his twin weren’t allowed to make me laugh genuinely.
He referred to me as his superwoman and that did make me go pink, it felt like I was slowly letting go of the grudges I had been holding against him for years which wasn’t supposed to be!
“We’re almost there” he announced and I listened with my deaf ear,
He still remained a step ahead of me and the thought of removing my hand from his crossed my mind but Aria didn’t think it was necessary.
Occasionally, I took glances at him and my heart suddenly began to race whenever I did that, I wasn’t so sure it was nothing to be worried about.
“Why are you helping me out all of a sudden?” I could no longer hold it so I asked,
“It’s simple, I’m helping you out because you cried” his response but I didn’t buy that.
“Since when did my tears start moving you?” I questioned,
Vividly, I could recall that all I did ten years ago when I was with them was cry, they made me cry every second and when I did it in their presence, they either ignored or made mockery of me.
He had no answer to my question and that must be why he hadn’t said a word after I questioned him, Aria would agree with me that there’s a reason why he’s helping.
“Aren’t you supposed to be on Willow’s side?” I further questioned, she happened to be the love of his life after all.
“I don’t take sides with criminals, she has been proven guilty and that makes her a criminal” he didn’t hesitate to reply,
“You didn’t inform your twin that you were going to expose her in public, why is that so?” This was the perfect time to ask him all the questions in my head that I needed answers to so I wasn’t holding back.
“He won’t agree with me to expose her,” he said,
He knew his twin so well that he knew what his response would be if he had spoken to him about it, I gulped and was ready to ask him the next question on my list.
It was the first time we were engaging in a lengthy conversation that doesn’t have to do with the rogues and I must say that he isn’t good with keeping conversations.
“Why did…”
“Enough of the questions, Serena” he chimed and caught a glimpse of my face.
“I only have a few more, I promise” I persisted,
“No more questions ma’am,” he said in a tone that was a little loud but not harsh.
I moved my nose and grumbled, just when I thought I would get answers to all of my questions, he did this.
A smell filled my nostrils and I instantly kept calm as I needed to be certain it was what I thought it was before I raised my hopes high,
“That’s the smell of a rogue!” I announced out of excitement, that was a sign that we would find a rogue soon.
“Told ya” he muttered.
I just believed that we didn’t kill all the rogues and there were still a few survivors, all this while, I thought we wiped them all out already.
A smile appeared on my face, the rogue would help us and Dean would be a free werewolf again and then he could live like the wealthy werewolf that he is.
Once he’s out, I would be on my way to Shaun to hear from him, Aria would be shocked when he makes it known to me that he didn’t mean any of the words in his letter.
“The mate bond, what are we doing about it?” I investigated, I didn’t want to but I eventually did.
When I show up to Shaun’s face and explain to him why I no longer bear his mark, it would make more sense if I add that I broke the bond between Alpha Basil and me already.
Alpha Basil had once told me that there was no way we would break the bond but I want to believe that he said that to frighten me.
“Why did you donate more than a pant of blood for me? I thought you’ve always wanted me dead?” I wanted an answer to my question and not for him to question me again!
It became glaring to me that Alpha Bernard hadn’t told him that in exchange for what I did, some percentage of their properties had become my brother’s,
He must think that I did that for him out of compassion and I wasn’t going to tell him about the deal Alpha Bernard and I had, he kept it a secret from him for a reason.
The moonlight was finally out and Aria couldn’t stop howling, I would give in to her because I did not have a choice but I hoped that she wouldn’t do too much with his wolf,
Aria finds it out to control her emotions under the moonlight and now that she’s in sync with his wolf, only the moon goddess knows what will happen.
