Chapter 79 - The end

Lilith

Finding a beta wasn’t easy. We had a lot of good people in our pack, but after what our previous beta did to Ezra, I could see that he was struggling to trust someone that much. No, he was struggling to trust himself with that kind of decision again. It was sad to see him doubt himself and his decisions that much, but thankfully, it didn’t last long.

Ezra picked someone and we could breathe a little easier again. Once he picked a beta, he replaced the warriors we lost thanks to some people’s greed. It was an all-round good thing. The pack was growing.

I STUDIED Lilith each time we were there and each time she surprised me more than before. I had always thought I would never see my friend again after school. Yet, here she was … Luna of her own pack and she was simply incredible. Back when I was dating Ezra, I also couldn’t imagine him being with anybody other than me …

Now he was madly in love with my best friend and I couldn’t have been happier for the two of them. Life has treated all of us really well over the past couple of years. Now all I could do was pray that it would last. We needed this peace to last so that we could spend some quality time with our families.

Carlo’s arms slipped around my waist as I stood in my office looking out of the window. I leaned into his touch and breathed in his scent. He was a different man to the one I met all those years ago. He was my incredibly loving mate.

“Penny for your thoughts?” His hands slipped protectively over my growing belly and I smiled.

“I’ve just been thinking how incredibly blessed we all are. Now that the threat has been neutralized. I’m glad their little one is safe and that our friends are happy and even more glad that we are happy and safe. If I think back on everything … It could all have gone so terribly wrong.” I tried to explain the mangled emotions I was feeling.

“Don’t dwell on the past, sweetheart. Just keep your eyes on the future.” He kissed the top of my head and I smiled. “A future that is ever growing!” He looked amused as I turned in his arms and his hand softly rested over my belly for a moment before he pulled me into his arms.

Our future was looking bright. Our children’s futures were looking bright. We were all finally going to just be happy!
