Chapter 78 - Two nights in Paris!
Lilith
I really didn’t want to leave our son right after he had been kidnapped, but Ezra didn’t give me half a chance to protest! He knew me far too well, and when he slipped into the back seat of the car, he pulled me onto his lap.
“He is safe with Blanca, and you know it.” Ezra smiled before I could say anything.
“He wasn’t even safe with us.” I pouted, trying to make a joke, but we both knew it wasn’t funny. I knew how much trouble Ezra had to go through to get all of this arranged so quickly and quietly, so I wouldn’t spoil it for him. I knew our son was safe with Blanca and Carlo.
Our enemies had been vanquished for now. It was the perfect time for a get-away. We arrived at the airport and Ezra and I made ourselves comfortable on the plane before take-off. I thought about the first time he took me to Paris and how totally amazed I was by his wealth.
I know better now, of course. Ezra’s wealth back then hadn’t come from hard work. It came from somewhere else. At least, these days, I knew exactly how hard he worked to make sure we could live in luxury.
The plane took off and I curled up beside him. I had no idea how long we were going for, and I didn’t care. I needed this more than I could ever have realized and I appreciated the fact that Ezra did this for me. We arrived in Paris and, as before, the beauty of the city took my breath away. After settling in at the hotel, Ezra ordered in and I took a nap.
We had dinner on our terrace overlooking the city lights and I fell in love with it all over again. It felt really good to just get away and be a normal couple. But we weren’t entirely since I was still heavily pregnant and about to pop out that baby at any moment.
I knew that Ezra had taken it into account when he made his plans and that was the reason we didn’t go out straight after arriving. After dinner, we curled up together on the bed and watched an old movie. I must have drifted off at some point because the next thing I noticed was how bright it was in our room.
Ezra wasn’t in bed anymore and I got up to look for him. I found him in the living room about to have breakfast. My stomach growled and it drew his attention. He laughed as he held out his hand and I took a seat beside him.
“Good morning, beautiful. Sleep well?” He smiled while buttering the toast before handing me a piece.
“Good morning, yes and you?” I smiled, trying to talk and chew at the same time. The baby could be really demanding whenever it became hungry! Which meant all manners went straight out of the window! He laughed and we had breakfast in our room before getting dressed.
Ezra had a full day planned for someone who was as pregnant as I was and I couldn’t wait to just walk the streets of Paris with him. We did a little shopping in the morning, and I got the cutest little outfit for our son and a pair of sneakers for the baby.
They were so damn small that I couldn’t resist, even after Ezra teased me that I had no idea how small the baby would be. It might be too big for the shoes, but I didn’t care. One day our little ones were going to be grown up and then they could tell their children I bought these.
We had a relaxing lunch at one of the sidewalk cafes and I was beginning to feel better. Everything that happened was slowly making its way to the back of my mind where I could find peace again. We went to the Louvre after lunch, where I was just amazed at the talent some people had to create such beautiful art.
We had dinner back at the hotel and I was bushed after our long day. We were only spending two nights there and when I woke up in the middle of the night, I walked out onto the terrace and took in the view. It was really incredible.
If we didn’t have so many responsibilities, I could have easily imagined myself moving to Paris and spending my days just walking about the city and my nights standing on the terrace and just looking at the view. It was a magical place and it healed most of the anxiety I felt at home. I was ready to go back. I was ready to face whatever came our way.
I was ready to protect my family and our pack. Ezra had given me exactly what I needed to just stop and find myself again. Paris will always be our special place. It would always mean so much more to us. In the morning, I pretended to complain that we had to go back home, but I couldn’t wait to see our son again. The plane ride home felt as if it took forever!
The drive from the plane to the pack house felt even longer and the second the car came to a halt and I watched Blanca carry my son out onto the porch, I tried to jump out of the car. My huge belly was in the way as I waddled over and took my son from Blanca.
I was so happy to see him, and I breathed in his scent, feeling my heart instantly calm. I loved this little boy more than life itself. More than I loved Ezra. I would do anything to keep him safe and happy. I would give my life if I had to.
Ezra pulled us into his arms and thanked Blanca and Carlo for taking care of everything. Ezra didn’t have a beta at the moment and that would be our next huge decision.
