Chapter 74 - They are safe!
Lilith
Our baby was gone! There was no sign of him anywhere and we had literally checked everywhere! I felt as if someone had ripped out my heart and the open wound was just there for the entire world to see. I couldn’t go to sleep and spent the night just walking around the pack house while Ezra and our warriors were out searching.
I couldn’t stop myself from fearing the worst, but I was just praying that Ezra returned with our son in his arms. Some of the omegas stayed up with me while the rest of our people went to bed. They planned on searching in shifts so we could keep searching but also be focused on seeing whatever was out there to see. I walked over to the window and I couldn’t imagine my child out there in the wilderness on his own!
I jumped when the phone rang and the omega looked shocked when she put it on the speaker. On the other side of the line was a distorted voice telling me they had my son. They wanted Ezra to give over control of the pack or they were going to kill my son. Before I could reply to any of that, the voice on the other side told me I had half an hour to give them an answer and then the line died.
I was in shock. My legs gave way under me as all around me people started moving around. An omega told me they had informed Ezra and he was on his way back, but I just sat there with my mouth open and my hands clamping over my mouth. Ezra arrived minutes later and I rushed into his arms. We had no idea at first who could have taken our son, until the call came through.
Ezra was shouting orders and someone handed me a cup of tea, but I just couldn’t drink it. We had to give up our lives to save the life of my son. I would give my life if it meant my son would be safe! Blanca and Carlo showed up and within minutes everyone around us was moving fast. Calls were being made, but all I could do was stare at the phone that let me know some stranger had taken my son!
When it rang, everyone went dead silent. I watched Ezra pick up the phone and it felt as though everything was happening in slow motion. He put the phone on speaker and the voice on the other side repeated their demands. I couldn’t imagine us leaving our home and our people, but I also wouldn’t be able to live with myself if my son was killed!
My jaw dropped when Ezra told whoever was on the other side of the line that we would give it all up. Blanca put her arms around me as I stood up and took a step closer to Ezra. He agreed to meet up with the kidnappers and when they hung up it felt as if my heart was about to stop. Ezra closed the gap between us and pulled me into his arms.
“It’s going to be okay. I’m going to get our son back and everything is going to be okay. I promise. You need to pack and leave with Blanca, okay?” Ezra let me go and looked into my eyes. I nodded, but my hands were shaking so badly that I could hardly stand upright. Blanca and an omega took me to my room and I just grabbed at things.
When we finally had everything packed, we met up with the rest of our people outside. I noticed the buses for the first time, but I didn’t even ask how they got them here so fast. All I could think about was holding my son. We pulled out of the gate that led to our territory, and I realized I might never see our home again.
I was in such a state when we left, I didn’t even think of grabbing pictures or any of the special memories we built up over the years! Whoever did this made sure we wouldn’t have time to back out. They made sure we had no time to think about things. I didn’t even know if they would let my son go because our people left with us.
As far as I can remember, the kidnappers didn’t say anything about our people having to stay, but they did say that they wanted Ezra to give up his title as alpha. We reached Blanca’s place and I knew I couldn’t contact Ezra yet. He would probably only reach the meeting point now and I didn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize our son’s safety any further.
Blanca jumped into gear and made sure everyone had a place to sleep for the night, but I couldn’t calm down. I needed Ezra and my son back. I needed them to be safe and with me! The tears started to run as soon as Blanca focused on me. I just couldn’t stop them anymore and I cried until there were just no more tears to cry. It felt as if the time was ticking by so damn slowly. I hadn’t heard from Ezra and I had hoped he would at least let me know that he had my son and they were safe. Another hour passed by and when we hadn’t heard anything I was ready to go out there and find my family.
Blanca tried to stop me but I pulled from her grasp and stormed out. As I stepped out, I saw Ezra in the distance with a couple of our warriors. He was carrying something and I fell to my knees. He had our son! He had our son in his arms! I could see that Ezra had been in a fight, but the wounds were already healing. I got up and ran into his arms and just clung to both of them, giving them both kisses over and over.
