Chapter 167 The Missing Pieces

Chapter 167 The Missing Pieces
Alyssa's POV

"Dad…" Nyra called, her voice breaking.

Looking at my parents, how fragile and older they looked. My mom wheeled her chair towards us. "Aurora? Nerissa?” She repeated, her voice low and tears pouring down her face.

We found out she'd given us names even though we were missing. And the names were beautiful.

William nodded at her question, "yes, we found them.” He told her. And without waiting for her to confirm whether or not they were lying, I threw myself into her arms and Nyra did the same with our dad.

I cried as her flowery scent filled my nostrils, “mom!" I cried.

Her arms wrapped tightly around me, as though if she let go of me, I would disappear but I wasn't complaining.

"My daughter,” she sobbed loudly. “My daughters are home, I thought I'd never see you again.”

"I'm sorry," I whispered over and over again. "I'm so sorry it took me this long to come home." She immediately pulled back just enough to cup my face.

"No." She shook her head firmly. "You didn't do anything wrong." Her thumbs brushed away my tears before she kissed my forehead.

"I've waited so long for this moment." Her voice trembled. "There wasn't a single day I stopped praying that the Moon Goddess would bring my daughters back to me."

Beside us, I heard Nyra break down completely and Dad had pulled her into his arms despite his trembling body, holding her so tightly and placing kisses all over her hair and face.

"Dad..." Nyra cried.

"I'm here." His voice cracked. "I'm here, my little girl."

Tears streamed down his face as his hands searched her face, tracing every feature with gentle fingers.

He couldn't see her, but it was like he was trying to memorize her through touch alone. His fingers paused on her cheek before moving to her forehead, then her hair.

"You've grown up," he whispered with a broken smile. "I wasn't there to watch either of you take your first steps...I wasn't there to hear your first words...I missed everything.”

"We're going to make sure you don't miss anything from now on.” Nyra assured him.

We took turns hugging our parents and only when they were satisfied did they put a space between us. Then we introduced the guys, who had brawled their eyes out.

“He's my mate and he saved me." I told them.

My mom took his hand in hers, and Zayne bent down to meet her eyes. "Thank you.” She whispered, "thank you so much.”

“I'd do anything for her," he told her. “She saved me too, and I'm forever grateful for her."

Wendy excused herself to ask the pack members in charge of cooking to prepare a feast since we needed to celebrate.

"They were right, you look like your mom.” Lori said, and I nodded. I got my red hair from her and my eyes as well.

“I wish I could see you.” My dad said, "but you must be beautiful if you look like your mom.” He added and I smiled.

We spent about an hour filling them in about our lives but leaving out some details that were definitely going to upset them. They wanted to hear everything and we also had so much to tell them. I wasn't sure when, but at some point, I looked up to realise we were alone with them.

Nyra turned to face me, “Mel said you could heal them." She said, "I want Dad to see me." She told me through our mindlink.

“What if I try and I fail? That's going to raise their hope and shatter it."

She shook her head, “you can do it, I've seen you heal worse.” She pleaded, "Elara told me how good you are too.”

"You really should have a little faith in me.” My wolf said, and I rolled my eyes.

"What happened to conserving energy for the sake of our children?” I teased her.

She shrugged, "it's not like you were going to listen to me anyway.” She replied. "We both know you do whatever you have in mind.”

"But you love me.”

"Not like I have a choice.” She said, her voice light.

My eyes met Nyra's gaze and I nodded softly. My mom, who hasn't left my hand since she held it, looked between us, a confused look settling in her eyes.
"Are you l-leaving again?" She asked, her voice breaking.

“Of course not.” I assured her, "but there's something you should know.” I paused, and Nyra nodded encouragingly. And without holding back, I told them about the prophecy, and how it wasn't a lie. Then about our different abilities and my mom looked up at my dad, even though he couldn't see her.

“Oh my goodness, Rowan!" She exclaimed quietly. “Our girls unlocked their abilities." She cried, as our dad reached for her, and took her hand.

He smiled, “I knew the prophecy was real," he said quietly. “I never doubted it." Then his hand searched for mine until our fingers intertwined.

“I always believed the Moon Goddess would send you back to us."

I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Dad, I'd like to try healing your eyes."

He didn't answer immediately.“You don't have to push yourself,” he said, looking away. "I've spent almost half of my life being blind, I'm used to it." He smiled again, this time with hope instead of sadness.

"Dad, you'd be able to see us.” Nyra told him, and that seemed to convince him.

He nodded, "okay.”

"Now he's talking.” My wolf cooed.

Nyra dragged a chair for him to sit down and when he finally did, I stood in front of him, my eyes closed and placing my hand over his eyes. After a few seconds, my hand started glowing and I smiled softly. “This is it." I muttered quietly.

"Did it work?” Nyra asked when I finally finished.

Dad blinked several times, his brows knitting together.

"Rowan?" Mom whispered hopefully.

He smiled sadly and slowly shook his head. "Sorry sweetheart."

My brows furrowed, “what? Why?" I asked my wolf. I've never failed to heal anyone before even when they were on the verge of dying.

“Maybe it's not meant to be, but it's okay." He assured me.

I shook my head, “no dad, I can do it." I tried the same thing a few more times but it was the same result and I could feel myself getting tired.

Zayne had entered the room again, definitely feeling the frustration I felt. “I don't understand why it's not working." I cried into his shirt. "I know I can heal him."

“Of course you can, Red." He replied. “Have you tried your shield? It has healing power and you're probably exhausted from all the traveling."

A light bulb went off in my head, “hold my hand, Nyra." I said, “the shield we create together is stronger.” I told her and she took my hand immediately.

Once the shield was up, a golden colour, I waited for the power from the shield to kick in before I placed my hand over his eyes again.

“Moon goddess, please let this work." I pleaded, “I've healed other people, my dad shouldn't be an exception."

My dad gasping a few seconds later snapped my eyes open, “Selene!” He gasped, as his hands flew to Mom's face as tears filled his eyes. “I can see you again."

His gaze shifted to Nyra before settling on me.
He froze, staring at us like he was afraid we'd disappear.

"Our daughters," His voice broke. "They’re both so beautiful.”

“It worked!" Nyra said, hugging our dad.

But I wasn't done as I turned to face mom, "Now, it's your turn mom.” And before she could insist that she was fine, I placed my hand on her knees.
Closing my eyes, I felt a familiar warmth spread beneath my palms, followed by the soft golden glow I had become used to seeing whenever I healed someone.

The room fell silent, everyone holding their breath.
After a few moments, the glow slowly faded and I pulled my hands away to look up at her.

"Mom..." I called and she frowned.

"I-I–" She blinked several times before slowly lifting one foot, then the other. Her eyes widened. "I can feel them."

Dad immediately reached for her hand. "Selene?"

She looked down at her legs like she couldn't believe they belonged to her anymore. Then as slowly as she could, she placed both hands on the arms of her wheelchair and pushed herself up.

Her knees trembled for only a second before they steadied. She stared at herself in complete disbelief.

"I'm..." She looked at Dad with tears already falling.
"I'm standing."

Dad's eyes filled with tears as he reached for her.
"You are."

She took one hesitant step. Then another.
Before breaking into tears and wrapping her arms around him.

"Rowan..." She called and he held her tightly.

"I've missed holding you like this."

Nyra threw herself into the hug, crying just as hard.
I stood there smiling, feeling the exhaustion settle into my body.

Zayne's hand slipped around my waist before I could lose my balance. "You did it," he whispered.

I rested my head against his shoulder. "No," I said, smiling through my tears.

"We did.”
