Chapter 166 Home At Last

Chapter 166 Home At Last
Zayne's POV

The child she was carrying..." He looked directly at me.

"...didn't belong to Alpha Dorian.”

The moment the words left his mouth, I felt the world crashing around me and my head immediately turned to face Aileen. “Are you–"

“Am I sure?” William asked, a smile that didn't reach his eyes appeared on his face. "I'm never going to forget the look in the man's eyes when he said we should've minded our business. So yes, I'm certain.”

Aileen stood up, running a hand through her hair. “I need fresh air.” She said to no one in particular. “I need to be alone." She continued and stormed outside before anyone could respond.

Jace didn't hesitate as he bowed his head slightly before running after her.

“Is she okay?" Wendy asked, before her eyes widened as realization dawned on her. “The poor girl, I can't imagine how she must feel. She didn't deserve to find out like this." She finished, letting out a deep sigh

I wasn't sure which one was worse, the fact that Valerie hated Red for being an Omega when she was the mastermind behind the hard life she went through or that she hid the fact that Aileen was Viktor's child.

"This is so messed up.” Lori said.

Red hadn't said anything and I turned to look at her. "Are you okay?” I asked, even though I knew the answer to that. There was no way she would me. She just found out her mother-in-law ruined her family.

“I can't believe your mom would do something like that,” she whispered, " and Aileen…” she swallowed. “She must be so heartbroken. You should go to her.”

I frowned, "what about you?”

She shook her head, "I'm fine, but Aileen needs her brother.”

I ran a hand through my hair as I pushed myself up from the couch. "I'll be back soon.” I murmured.

Without another word, I headed outside, following the same path Aileen had taken. Somewhere towards where our cars were parked, I could already hear Jace calling her name.

She was sitting in the car, the doors locked but the sound of her crying could be heard from miles away.

“Princess," Jace called softly. "Please open the door for me." He begged, but she didn't move.

I placed my hand on his shoulder once I was close enough, "I'll take it from here." I told him and he hesitated, taking another look at her before he finally left.

I waited until Jace was out of earshot before knocking lightly on the window. "Aileen." I called, my voice barely audible, but loud enough for her to hear me.

She didn't even look at me.

"Princess," I called again, resting a hand against the window. "Look at me." I called softly again and slowly, she lifted her head. Her eyes were red and swollen, her cheeks stained with tears.

"Open the door." I said, but she shook her head. "Please?"

My wolf snorted as she looked away again. “Do you seriously only know how to comfort our mate?" He asked. “Our sister needs us, so snap out of it and get in there."

"You don't have to say anything." I said softly. "You don't have to explain how you're feeling."

Silence.

A small smile tugged at my lips despite everything. "Open the door." I said. "You know hiding never works on me."

"You used to hide under your bed whenever you got into trouble." I continued. "Then you'd move to the wardrobe because you thought I wouldn't find you there." I chuckled softly. "And every single time, I found you."

Another sob escaped her lips.

"This isn't any different, Princess." I said gently. "Whatever our mom did, whatever secrets she kept... none of it is our fault." I told her and only then did she look up
"You're still my little sister." I told her. "Nothing is going to change that."

For a few seconds, neither of us moved. Then I heard the soft click of the lock. And the moment I opened the door, she threw herself into my arms.

"I'm sorry," she cried, holding onto me tightly. "I'm so sorry."

I wrapped my arms around her, rubbing soothing circles on her back. "You have nothing to apologize for." I whispered. "We didn't choose who our parents were. None of this is on you."

She cried even harder, burying her face against my chest, and all I could do was hold her while she cried.

Watching her cry broke something in me, especially when I couldn't provide a solution to the problem. And in that moment I hated Valerie more than I already did.

“You know," Aileen started after a while. “I was totally fine with living life without her…but I don't think I can handle not having dad or you in my life."

“You won't have to." I assured her. “You're always going to be my little sister and I love you more than anything.” I told her and she nodded. "And dad, I don't think anything can stop you from being his little girl."

"Thank you.”

I shook my head, "don't do that,” I said, "I'm your brother, it's my duty to make sure you're okay. Even though your mate is already doing a good job.”

She smiled, "yea, he is.” She agreed. "I can't believe I'm going to become a Luna. I never saw it coming."

“You're going to do well.” I said, "as long as you don't stress Jace too much.”

She chuckled, “what do you take me for? A troublemaker?” She asked.

"If the shoe fits.” I joked and she laughed before wrapping her arms around me.

When we were both certain she was okay, we went back inside the room and everyone turned to face us. But nobody said anything, as if they were scared of saying the wrong thing.

"Is she okay?” Red asked, once I sat beside her.

I nodded, “she's getting there." I answered truthfully. "I thought you'd have gone to meet your parents.”

She shook her head, “I want you to be with me when I meet them.” She replied and I took her hand in mine.

"Are you ready?”

"I think I am.”

William led the way to the other end of the Pack house and to a room and with another glance at Wendy, he slowly pushed the door open and gestured for us to follow.

The room was mostly dark despite the fact that it was bright outside. The curtains were drawn shut, leaving only a small crack for light to slip through.

My eyes immediately found the two figures inside.
An older man sat quietly by the window, his gaze fixed ahead even though I knew he couldn't see anything. Beside him was a woman in a wheelchair, her head resting against it as she stared outside.
Neither of them noticed we'd entered…they probably did but just didn't care anymore.

I tightened my grip around Red's hand, silently letting her know I was there. William cleared his throat.

"Rowan... Selene." He called and the woman slowly turned her head.

"William?" she called softly.

He smiled, though his eyes were already getting wet again. "We found them…Aurora and Nerissa"

Silence filled the room.

The man didn't move and the woman's fingers tightened around the blanket covering her legs and William took another step forward.

"We found your daughters."

A sharp gasp escaped the woman's lips.
The man slowly pushed himself to his feet, his hands trembling at his sides. Beside me, I felt Red's hand tighten around mine before it slowly slipped away.

She took a shaky step forward, tears already streaming down her face. "Mom..." she whispered.

Nyra stood beside her, her own voice breaking.
"Dad…”
