Chapter 160 Two Hwartbeats

Chapter 160 Two Hwartbeats
Alyssa's POV

I watched as the girls laughed about something, and a smile appeared on my face. We'd been through so much together but we were able to come out of it together and seeing everyone get along, I couldn't ask for more.

Zayne hadn't decided when we were going to see my parents but there was no doubt it was soon and I seriously couldn't wait.

“We need to make up for the time we spent being afraid to visit the mall." Lori said, snapping me out of my thoughts. “And Elara still hasn't gotten her special trip yet."

Aileen nodded, “and I'm tired of seeing Nyra in the clothes I specifically picked for Alyssa." She said, looking over at where Nyra was sitting down. “We might as well get some clothes for her before shipping her to her parent's house."

I chuckled quietly, “at this point, I've given up trying to make them friends…I'm not even asking them to be best friends or anything.”

"You're right,” Aria agreed. "Besides, with everything over, I'm sure we can start thinking about having the Luna ceremony, so dresses are needed too."

My hand rested on my stomach, “can't that wait until this baby is out of me?” I asked, causing all of them to pause and look at me. "I mean, if I wear a dress now, I'll probably look like a whale and that's definitely not the concept I have in mind."

They didn't say anything, instead they looked at me like I just said the most ridiculous thing.

"Maybe it's because you did.” My wolf said, rolling her eyes.

Aria was the first to break the silence, “You're going to look perfect and you're carrying a life, the future heir, who cares what anyone thinks?"

I smiled softly at her words. "I doubt there's anything you wear that'll make you look like a whale."

“Yea, even in casual clothes, you made those boys speechless.” Aileen said, "I wonder how stunning you'll look in a dress. And you're barely showing, which makes it hard to believe that you've been pregnant for more than a month."

I could feel my face heating up at this point. “Enough about me, I get it, I'm going to look perfect.”

"Exactly!” They chorused.

“But unrelated," I started, “I wonder how confused those guys would've been when we started running."

“Yeah." Lori laughed. "I wanted to know how it would've ended, especially when they found out they were hitting on the Alpha King's mate.”

I felt him before I heard his voice. "Who the fuck was hitting on my girl?" Zayne's voice cut through the laughter.

The room fell silent for half a second before the girls burst into laughter. An improvement because if it were before, they probably would be praying for the ground to open and swallow them.

He frowned, looking from one face to another before his gaze settled on me.

"Red?" he asked.

I bit my lip, trying not to laugh. "It wasn't a big deal." I told him.

His brows rose. "That doesn't answer my question." He murmured, taking my hand, pulling me gently into his arms. “Do I need to beat someone up?” He asked, and his voice sounded serious.

“Seriously, it's nothing." I insisted, explaining what happened. "I think they are just being friendly, and besides, they didn't stand a chance."

He looked down at me. "No?"

I shook my head. "I already have everything I want." I told him, and the stern look on his face melted instantly.

"I like that answer." He replied, smiling. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.

Behind us, Aileen groaned slightly, "Can you two please stop being so adorable for five minutes?" Her voice co

"I second that," Lori added. "Some of us are still painfully single."

"Speak for yourself," Aria teased.

I smiled into his chest and waved the girls goodbye as Zayne led me out of the room with his arms wrapped around me. It was only after we'd gone out that I remembered that I actually needed to talk to Nyra about something.

"That can wait.” I thought.

Zayne led me to his office, locking the door behind him. “Tristan must've traumatized you." I said, laughing.

He groaned softly, “don't even remind me.”

Tristan, being the person that he was, had repeatedly, even after everything was over, not learnt to knock. On different occasions, he opened the door while we were having a very beautiful moment and each time, he wore a proud look, making it obvious he was doing it on purpose. But I have to admit that seeing the frustrated look on Zayne's face was hilarious.

“Everything is ready.” Zayne started as we made ourselves comfortable on the couch. "We will go see your parents in two days.”

My eyes widened, “really!" I exclaimed. “I've been thinking about it all day. I'm a bit nervous.” I admitted.

He caressed my hand, “You have nothing to be nervous about,” he assured me. "They're going to welcome you with open arms.”

"They don't even know I'm alive.” I laughed, but it didn't reach my eyes.

Since Mel told us about their condition, Zayne thought it was better to not tell them until we had dealt with Dylan and Lisa. And now that that was over, there was no need since we would be seeing them soon. Besides, a few selected people from their pack knew about us.

“That's going to change in two days…but there's no doubt they'd be so excited.” He replied. "And somewhere in their hearts, the both of you would always be alive.”

I grinned, "how do you always know the right thing to say?"

He smiled, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear.

"Because it's the truth," he said softly, "If I were in their position, I'd never stop hoping. No matter how many years passed, a part of me would always believe my child was still out there."

I swallowed the lump in my throat and leaned my head against his shoulder.

"I hope you're right.” I murmured,

Almost unconsciously, my hand drifted to my stomach, gently rubbing over the bump and a tiny flutter brushed against my palm.

I froze.

"Zayne..." I whispered, looking up at him.

His brows furrowed. "What is it?"

I smiled as another little movement answered me. "Our baby." I took his hand and placed it over my stomach. "I think our baby just moved again."

His entire face lit up, his eyes fixed on where our hands rested. We stayed completely still, as if any slight movement would make the child change his mind.

A second later, another faint kick met his palm.
His breath caught. "Oh my goodness,!" he whispered, a grin spreading across his face. "Red... I actually felt it."
“Looks like our baby doesn't want you to feel left out."

“I can't wait to meet you little one," he whispered and there was another kick, as if the baby was agreeing with him. “I love you." He placed a kiss on my stomach and then on my lips.

“Thank you." He said.

I smiled and kissed him again. “There's no need to thank me." I told him and he simply nodded without letting go of me.

We remained in each other's arms, until someone twisted the doorknob. "Tristan!” I laughed.

"I know you guys are inside and can hear me.” The said person called from the other side of the door.

"If he didn't have a mate, I'd be certain he has something against happy people." I said, causing him to chuckle quietly. "But you can let him in, I have to see the pack doctor in a bit.”
He sat straight, “Are you okay? Do you feel uncomfortable?" He fired, checking my body.

“It's just a normal routine check up, it shouldn't take long."

“I'm coming with you.” He insisted and I didn't argue.

Tristan shot both of us a glare when the door finally opened. "You win this time, but I'll come back stronger next time." He promised, and I simply rolled my eyes.

Zayne followed me to the hospital, and watched as the doctor did the routine check, holding my hand when for whatever reason, blood was drawn. And after what felt like forever, the doctor came in again but the look on his face suggested something was wrong.

My heart dropped, and my hand formed a fist.

"We didn't notice before, but…” he paused, taking another look at the document…one that I was close to snatching away from his hand.

"Is she okay?” Zayne asked, his hand on mine as the doctor spoke again.

The doctor smiled. "Congratulations, Alpha, you're not having one pup." He said, looking from me to Zayne.

"Luna Alyssa is carrying twins.”
