Chapter seventy-nine
Alpha Reginald
This was crazy, no matter how much I pondered on it. How do I get Isabella from the Nightshade pack without being caught? This is more like throwing myself into shark-infested waters. Alpha Valerio is someone not to mess with, a ruthless creature who doesn't think before acting. Killing is nothing to him at all.
I released a breath, my heart beating very fast. This is the fifth day after my conversation with Alpha Lucius, yet I haven't come up with any ideas. My son is there, Killian is there…. I need to save him. I couldn't just abandon him there; he's my son.
But how do I go about this?
I rubbed my tensed jaw and growled out worriedly. My mind raced with different ideas, but none seemed feasible. I can't just barge in there. First, I know nobody in that pack…. How the pack is structured, I had no idea. The hideout, the corners in that pack… I still have no idea. How many places the guards are stationed, I knew none of them. How am I to enter inside? Is something I was yet able to come up with.
"THIS IS MESSED UP!!!"
I groaned hard and silently hit my hand on the window frame, my teeth clenched.
This is not something I could do alone.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and by the scent, I already knew who it was. So, no need to turn around, but soon, the footsteps started nearing in my direction. Closer, I felt my breath hitch as her scent wafted through my nostrils. Blame it on the mate bond; no matter the age, the bond would still have an effect on you.
"Hey," Evelyn called and came to a stop beside me. "Hi..." I responded with a nod and a calm tone to hide my emotions, but she saw right through it.
"You have been restless since you came back from the meeting with Alpha Lucius," she tilted her head to glance at my face. ".... what happened? How did the conversation go?" Not giving me enough time to reply, she added, "Did he agree to help us locate or reach out to our son?"
I gulped visibly, my Adam's apple dancing up and down in a frantic waltz. What do I say to her? I opened my mouth, but it got shut instantly. Her skeptical gaze was pinned on me.
After three more minutes, I finally let out a deep breath. My voice rolled off in a muffled tone. "It's nothing serious."
Damnit! I cursed inwardly at the only words that slipped off my lips.
I twirled to find her sharp gaze on me, her piercing stare making my heart skip a beat.
"I am talking about our son, and you are saying it's nothing," she snapped, her lips pulled back in disbelief.
"Killian is fine," I quickly forced out the words. I had to come up with something to assure her that he's fine.
Evelyn has been restless and worked up since we lost touch with Killian. I didn't want her knowing that he's being held hostage in the Nightshade pack with no idea on how to save him.
This is fucked up! I couldn't have allowed Killian to go there in the first place. Valerio might surely be waiting for me to make a first move just to hunt me down. Isabella might even have told him everything, and with Killian there…. I'm fucking screwed.
I could feel my heart drumming so fast, but my thoughts were immediately cut off by Evelyn's sharp tone.
"Then where is he?" She snarled before raising her voice. "Tell me where my son is!!!"
"Give me assurance that he's safe by telling me where he is!!" She exclaimed, her eyes becoming glassy. "..... why do I have a feeling that something is wrong?" She kept on bucking, and that was actually adding to my headache and frustrations.
Not being able to keep up, I snapped back. "Fine!!" I growled, grabbing her attention. She quietened down, her eyes urging me to speak up.
Clenching my jaw, I spat out, "You really want to know where he is? You think I am also not worried?!"
"You are fucking not," she shook her head, her hard look on me. "If you are, you won't be constantly keeping me in the dark."
"Huh," I bellowed. "Keeping you in the dark as if you are going to do anything!" I shouted back, motioning to the look on her face.
I have had enough. This is my son we are talking about. Alpha Lucius obviously doesn't want to help. I was left alone to do this. Killian was right…. He had said this, that a day would come when these people would never come to our aid.
He was right.
Alpha Lucius has chased Alpha Valerio for years; he has a lot of spies in there. Helping me or even getting Isabella should be a small thing for him, but yet, he has discarded me.
It's all my fault!! I couldn't have made it easier for him by ending Harold's life years back, but…. I swallowed hard. But I can't give up now; I have come a very long way.
"Where is Killian?!" Evelyn's furious voice snapped through my head again, and I spun to growl out, irritated.
"Don't fucking raise your voice at me!!
I have never raised my voice at her; I am losing my mind and she's not helping matters at all.
Evelyn seemed taken aback before her face furrowed into a rage.
"Not until you tell me where Killian is," she hissed, and then a smile appeared on her bottom lip, as if an idea had just struck her.
".... you can fucking shove it down your throat. I am going to meet Alpha Lucius; I am sure he can explain better," she snarled, and my face fell.
"Don't you dare!" I quickly grabbed her wrist before she could walk past me. Her sharp glare shot back at me.
"Let me go!"
I sighed, still not letting go of her wrist.
"Killian is being held hostage by Alpha Valerio," I dropped the bombshell and watched as the blood drained from her face. Evelyn opened her mouth, her lips trembling, her voice cracking.
Her once vibrant eyes now looked shocked.
"What do you mean?" My throat constricted as I swallowed hard. It was hard watching her. She was on the verge of crying.
"She's there…with him," she muttered, her voice shaking.
I gulped hard, and nodded. "Now, we are cast out. Valerio knows that Killian is my son," I said, and a tear dropped from her eye.
".... any wrong move might ruin us. To have him release our son, we need to get Isabella."
