Chapter Eighty

Alpha Reginald

After my conversation with Evelyn, I had thought and thought, but the only thing that kept coming into my head was just this person…. Beckett. He's the only person I know who would help me. He's damn close to Valerio and might possibly know the ins and outs of that pack, but my worry is if he would accept helping me. He's like a loyal puppy to Alpha Lucius.

This is going to be tough.

But I had to try.

I instantly mind-linked Edward to arrange an urgent meet-up with Beckett outside the pack. Once I sent the message, I heaved out a breath and rubbed my jaw, relaxing back.

Both of us had been oddly quiet after the conversation. We were deep in their own thoughts. Evelyn seemed unable to wrap her head around what's happening, which I fucking understood.

"I knew it. I knew it!" She suddenly blurted, her face squeezed in a deep frown. Her eyes glinted with such resentment.

"..... I knew that something was wrong. Everything about that girl is so evil," her furious gaze snapped back in my direction.

"Why didn't you kill her then?"

"Excuse me," I asked, clearly not getting where she was coming from, and she hurled me a sharp glare.

".... You should have killed her alongside her parents. She should have just died and stopped stressing us out."

"I am already living with the guilt of killing my own brother and his wife. I can't wipe out the whole family at once."

"Why not?" She blasted. "Since you are already living with it, adding two or three is nothing."

I groaned and ran my hand through my hair, frustrated.

She was right; I should have killed her, but Lucius had flatly refused. He told me he had a plan, and I had stupidly accepted. The thing was, I helped him get rid of Harold, and then he would help me attain the Alpha position with the help of Thorold Dawson.

It was so easy; Thorold Dawson is more like the mouthpiece of the elders in the council.

Everything was working so effortlessly well. I thought her being under Alpha Lucius was going to be the best.

But boom…. I was told that she ran away, and then the next thing, she got a mate! Not just an ordinary male wolf, but Alpha Valerio. The fucking Alpha of the Nightshade pack.

Haha.. I chuckled, a dry one. It was as if the universe was just getting back at me, and if it's true…. They are obviously hitting me so bad.

"Isn't it obvious that you were just a pawn?" Evelyn laughed sadly, and I turned my head to stare back at her. She hummed with a bitter smirk and met my gaze.

".... they used us. We did every fucking thing they wanted, and now what?" She yelled, her face crunched in anger. ".... they are not willing to help,"

I sighed. I didn't want her involving herself in this. Lucius is a dangerous one; I didn't want us crossing his bad side. I might be an Alpha, but nothing close to him. He's an Alpha by blood, so our strengths are not equal, and again, when it comes to connections, I am fucking lacking behind.

"He offered to help,"

"By getting that bitch! How is that possible?" She bellowed before pulling on her hair, tears blurring her eyes.

" We are just screwed. At this point, I think we should just go and plead to Alpha Val-" She didn't get to finish, and I roared, silencing her.

" We are not accepting defeat. At least, not so soon, unless Lucius's thoughts about me are going to seem true. I am not a coward."

"Really?" Her widened eyes snapped back at me in total disbelief.

"You are so concerned about his thoughts, and what about our son?!"

"He's here," Edward's mind-link cut through my mind before I could reply to Evelyn, so I released a breath instead and stood up.

"Reginald,"

I ignored her and headed straight to the door.

"I am talking to you, Reginald!!" She yelled from behind me, but I was already out of the room. "If anything should happen to Killian, you will regret this!!"

I released a frustrated breath and strode outside of my pack toward the entrance gate.

"Good day, Alpha," the warriors guarding the entrance of our territory greeted.

I waved in response and strode out, away with no guards. I noticed the confused expressions on their faces.

I don't want to make any mistakes. I don't know who's a spy or not. I am just being careful.

I went straight to the direction Edward had told me Beckett was waiting for me. A few more strides, and I spotted him, covered in a black hoodie and leaning against the tree.

A sigh slipped out of my mouth.

"You came," I said, stopping in front of him.

"You summoned my presence," he answered back. The look on his face feared me, causing my heart to race faster and my doubts to worsen.

What if he doesn't accept?

Immediately the thoughts crossed my mind, I pushed it behind. Like I said, I need to try.

I let out a deep breath and nodded before I carefully looked sideways to ensure nobody was in sight. I then refocusing my attention back on him.

"I need your help." I suddenly voiced out, and his brow twitched up.

"How, Alpha Reginald?"

I swallowed visibly and continued.

"It's about…my son," I said in one go and noticed the frown on his face. There was something with the way he looked at me, but he was quick to mask his expression.

I brushed it off as well.

It's not necessary and besides, that's not why I was here.

"What do you need my help for?"

I clicked my tongue and stepped closer, my voice lowering to a whisper.

"Please help me get Isabella."

Beckett's eyes widened, and he took a quick step back, his face pale.

"Alpha Reginald, I... I don't know if I can do that," he stuttered, and I felt my heart sink.

"Why not?" I asked, trying to keep my tone neutral.

Beckett looked around sharply before focusing back on me.

"Alpha Lucius wants me to get her for him and if he gets to know about this_" he was still talking when I quickly interrupted him. ".. I understand but he won't know. Please, Beckett, you are the only one I could really count on this time."

"Alpha Reginald, this is the wrong move."

I nodded, understanding his fear

"I know. But it's still the same thing. We both want her, the fact remains we get her and if I do, he has promised to interfere in getting my son back," I explain when trying hard to keep my emotions in check.

Beckett stared at me with that same look again before sighing and tilting his head away.

"Please, he doesn't have to know. Help me, Beckett," I added, my voice coming out in a pleading tone and that's when I noticed his expression changed.

Beckett exhaled deeply and nodded.

"I see. I... I'll help you, Alpha Reginald. But we need to be careful. I don't want any issues with Alpha Lucius, this will be a secret. He doesn't have to know that I helped you."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.

"Thank you, Beckett. I owe you one," I said, and Beckett nodded.

"Let's get your son back, Alpha Reginald," he chuckled, but I smiled instead, feeling a sense of hope for the first time in days.

Thank goodness!
