Chapter 60 Find Her
Chapter 60 Find Her
{Warren POV}
"Did you find her?" I asked one of the warrior wolves I had sent into the woods.
He shook his head, leaning forward a little to catch his breath. "No, I didn't, sir."
A low growl left my lips at the thought of Diana being out there right now, probably calling out for someone to help her.
"What happened to you?" I asked, my gaze drifting to one of my betas. "If you didn't find her, why are you limping?"
"Alpha, there are traps in the woods," the beta answered, his face tight. "I almost got caught by one of them. It is like someone set those traps to catch any wolf that runs into the trees."
Hearing that, a sharp pain coursed through my chest, one I couldn't quite explain. My wolf growled deep inside of me, and I couldn't tell if it was due to physical pain or pure worry. It made me wonder why he had been reacting so much whenever it came to Diana. Could she actually be my true mate?
I shook my head at the thought, trying to push it away. She can't be. Layla is already my mate. Even though my feelings didn't feel right around her, my wolf always obeyed her whenever she was near. I didn't even know how a real mate bond was supposed to feel anymore.
"Alpha, I'm not sure she's even in the woods," another warrior wolf said, stepping forward. "Someone must have taken her, maybe to a place where she can't be heard."
"Maybe she's dead," a second wolf muttered under his breath.
My hands clenched tightly into fists at my sides. "Enough. She can't be dead. Let's take the search to every side of the city. I want men at the north, south, east, and even the west."
"But that is other pack territory," one of my betas warned. "They might feel we are trying to ambush them."
"Then don't cross the border, just search the edges," I snapped before pulling out my phone from my pocket. "Do it now."
They hesitated for a brief second before shifting into their wolf forms and sprinting down the path. Once they were gone, I dialed Cora's number and pressed the phone close to my ear. "Has she returned home yet?"
"No, sir," Cora said, her voice shaking with a slight sniffle. "But a neighbor said she saw Diana having a heated argument with the Luna of your pack."
"Layla?" The name slipped past my lips before I could stop it. "Are you sure she knows what she saw?"
I heard Cora sniffle once more on the other end. "Yes. I knew Layla was going to come after her because..."
"Because what?" I asked, waiting to hear what she wanted to say. There was silence for a moment before she spoke again.
"Layla is jealous of Diana," Cora said, and then she started crying softly.
Without wasting another second, I ended the call, shoved my phone back into my pocket, and got into my car. I slammed my foot down on the gas pedal, speeding wildly down the road toward home.
Layla might have made Diana lose her job and probably lied to me several times, but going after her like this was the limit. She had crossed a line, and I wasn't going to let her get away with it.
I sped down the road, the tires screaming against the asphalt until I pulled up hard in front of the pack house. I threw the car door open, rushed up the stone steps, and pushed my way inside.
The main hall was loud. Layla was shouting at a young maid who was helping her with a pedicure, raising her hand and giving the girl a sharp slap on the head to make her move faster.
"Hurry up," Layla snapped.
Before the maid could cry, I stepped into the room. "Leave," I ordered, my voice cutting through the air. "Get out of here immediately."
The young maid scrambled up from the floor and ran out of the room without looking back. Layla turned around, her face dropping when she saw how angry I looked. She stood up from the chair, smoothing out her dress.
"What's the problem, my love?" she asked, putting on a sweet voice. "Did someone offend you today?"
I stepped up to her and pushed her hand away as she reached for my chest. "Where is Diana?"
Layla scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Why should I know where Diana is? I have no business with her. Why are you so tense over a nobody?"
She tried to touch my arm again, but I shoved her back in pure anger. The force made her stumble against the small table.
Deep inside my chest, my wolf let out a loud, savage growl that echoed right through my teeth. The sound wasn't mine, it was him, clawing at my mind and demanding blood.
"Where is she?" I shouted, my voice shaking the walls of the room.
Layla scowled, her face twisting into an ugly look as she tried to calm me down with fake softness. "You are overreacting, Warren. Why are you so concerned about her? It's pathetic."
"If anything happened to Diana because of you, you won't get away with it," I warned, stepping closer until my shadow towered over her.
Layla crossed her arms, her eyes flashing with jealousy. "Oh, I see. You are protecting her, aren't you? Why would you talk to your own Luna this way because of some pregnant peasant girl?"
That was the final breaking point.
My wolf broke through the walls of my mind, taking full control even though I tried with all my might to hold him back. With a harsh snarl, I lunged forward at Layla, my hands sweeping out to scratch hard across her arm before I managed to wrestle my own body back under control.
Layla screamed in absolute terror, clutching her bleeding arm as she stumbled backward.
"Get out," I growled, my voice sounding deep and inhuman as my teeth ached to snap. "Get out of my sight right now!"
Too terrified to say another word, Layla turned and ran out of the room as fast as her legs could carry her, slamming the door behind her.
I stood alone in the quiet room, dropping to my knees as I shifted back into my human form. I pressed my hands against the wooden floor, panting so hard my chest burned with fire.
What just happened?
Had I really just lost control like a wild animal against my own will? My whole body shook as the terrifying truth settled over me, my wolf didn't just want Diana, he was ready to destroy anyone who stood in his way, even the woman bonded to my name.
