Chapter 269: Let's Get a Divorce
What she didn't expect was that the girl had just bought the car and was terrible at driving.
When crossing the pedestrian walkway, she didn't even look left or right.
She almost hit a pedestrian.
Luckily she braked in time.
But she got rear-ended by the car behind her.
Basically, their car was more at fault.
But the car behind was probably in a hurry and actually agreed to pay for the damages.
While the two were talking, the car that rear-ended them drove up and passed by in another lane.
Scarlett instinctively glanced over, then her eyes widened the next second.
Sitting in the back of that car - was that Amelia?
She was about to take a closer look when the car had already driven away.
"Follow them!" Scarlett immediately told the girl.
She needed to confirm whether that was really Amelia or not.
The girl reminded her, "But we're not going that way, they turned right."
"I said follow them!" Scarlett's tone was clearly commanding.
The girl was startled and annoyed.
But thinking that Scarlett would buy her a new car, she swallowed her discomfort and stepped on the gas to follow.
The girl's driving skills weren't great, but fortunately the roads were congested, so they eventually caught up.
"Stay back a bit, don't let them notice."
"Okay, what's going on?"
"Don't ask!"
"Alright."
Forty minutes later, that car finally stopped.
In front of a mansion, the car slowly stopped. The driver got out and opened the back door, then a slender figure stepped out.
Though it was just a side view, Scarlett recognized her immediately - that was Amelia!
Amelia's face was so beautiful it seemed unreal. She couldn't be mistaken.
Amelia had really come to Thornfield!
What was she doing here?
Could she be here to see Finn?
At the thought of this possibility, Scarlett's hands started shaking.
She even wanted to jump out of the car and confront Amelia directly, but she didn't dare, because Amelia still had dirt on her.
Amelia knew all about how she had drugged Anthony that day.
If Amelia went to the police, she'd be finished.
Scarlett bit down hard on her lower lip.
This feeling of hating Amelia but being unable to get rid of her made her extremely frustrated!
Her phone rang at that moment, suddenly pulling Scarlett's thoughts back.
She glanced at the caller ID - it was Finn.
"Almost here?" Finn asked her.
Scarlett gestured for the girl to drive away, while telling Finn, "About half an hour more. We had a car accident on the way."
"An accident? Is everyone okay? Do you need me to come handle it?"
"No need, just a minor scrape, no one was hurt, just delayed us a bit."
"Then don't rush, take your time, I'll wait for you."
"Okay."
The call ended, and Scarlett let out a heavy sigh.
The girl in the driver's seat saw that Scarlett's expression wasn't good. To lighten the mood, she smiled and said, "Your relationship with Finn is really nice, I'm so envious of you two."
Who knew Scarlett's expression would instantly become even darker.
"Be quiet, focus on driving, don't crash again."
The girl's enthusiasm was met with Scarlett's cold response. Embarrassed and angry, she silently drove Scarlett to her destination.
After getting out, Scarlett didn't even say goodbye and went straight into the restaurant.
This was an upscale restaurant called "Celestial Waters Hotel," located on the top floor of the building.
The restaurant had floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, offering a view of half of Thornfield.
All the seats were by the windows, with a uniquely designed circular bar in the center.
Scarlett spotted Finn right away.
He was wearing a smoke-gray suit, talking on the phone with someone, with a faint smile on his face.
Scarlett had almost never seen such a smile on Finn's face, because he never smiled at her.
When he looked at her, his eyes only held disgust and hatred.
So who was he smiling at now?
Was it Amelia?
Amelia's delicate face appeared in Scarlett's mind.
Scarlett didn't know if she was going crazy, but the anger in her heart burned hotter and hotter, completely unable to control her emotions.
She pushed aside the waiter blocking her way and rushed over, directly snatching the phone from Finn's hand.
"What are you doing?"
Finn was caught off guard.
After his initial shock, he immediately frowned, his expression ugly as he said, "Give me back my phone."
"I won't! You ask me what I'm doing, I want to ask you what you're doing! I thought you were going to live properly with me, but what happened! You still went to find that bitch!"
Finn's frown deepened.
"Who are you calling a bitch?"
"I'm talking about her!" Scarlett pointed at the phone, and before Finn could speak, she grabbed the phone and said, "Amelia, aren't you shameless? Do you love seducing other people's husbands that much?"
Finn's expression suddenly turned cold and harsh.
Earlier he had just felt annoyed, but now he was starting to feel disgusted.
His feelings toward Scarlett had returned to what they were a month ago.
He was disgusted by her, hated her.
She had schemed against him, forcing him onto a path of no return.
These past days, he had been following Amelia's advice, trying hard to cherish Scarlett.
And he had really done that.
He had also told himself that Scarlett at least truly cared for him, and he should try to accept her, accept his current life.
So he had made a genuine effort.
He had even reserved this newly opened restaurant, taking time out of his busy schedule to have dinner with her.
But what about Scarlett?
She had destroyed it all.
Destroyed the dinner, and destroyed his determination to try making things work with Scarlett.
In the future, he might eventually fall in love with some woman other than Amelia, but that woman could never be Scarlett.
The two of them could never work out in this lifetime.
Finn's gaze grew colder and colder, so cold it seemed like it could freeze someone into ice.
But Scarlett only thought that calling Amelia a bitch had crossed Finn's line, which was why he was looking at her that way.
But she really hated Amelia, that homewrecker!
She gripped the phone tightly and continued cursing into it.
"Bitch! Say something! Too scared to talk now? You already have Samuel, but you're still out there being a homewrecker. Aren't you afraid he'll find out? How shameless can you be? Are you that desperate? Can't Samuel satisfy you anymore?"
"That's enough!"
From the other end of the phone came an elderly but vigorous voice.
This voice was none other than Anthony's.
Scarlett froze in place.
That voice - did it sound like Anthony?
Then she heard Anthony continue, "I thought I was getting old and hearing things wrong. I didn't expect such filthy words to actually come from your mouth!"
Anthony hadn't spoken right away because he was stunned.
Now that he'd recovered, he launched into a tirade at Scarlett.
"All these years of teaching you have been wasted!"
By the end, Anthony was almost out of breath, as if she had really angered him.
Scarlett noticed something was wrong with Anthony and quickly said, "It's all my fault, Grandpa, don't be angry."
"Stop talking! Give the phone back to Finn! I don't want to hear your voice!"
In Anthony's tone, besides disappointment, there was also a hint of coldness.
Ever since Scarlett had poisoned him and he found out, he hadn't been as good to Scarlett as before.
Now he was even closer to Finn than to Scarlett.
Scarlett bit her lip and returned the phone to Finn.
Finn took the phone and walked aside, talking for about five minutes before hanging up and walking back.
"Finn."
Scarlett's eyes were brimming with tears, her heart filled with guilt and fear.
Fear that her relationship with Finn would return to freezing point.
However, Finn's first words were, "Let's get divorced."
Scarlett's head shot up.
She hadn't quite dared to look at Finn before, but now she looked straight into his eyes and found them full of disgust.
That naked, deep-seated disgust.
Scarlett's face went pale.
"No! I won't divorce you!"
"Scarlett." Finn spoke expressionlessly, "There's no future for us. I tried, and I really can't fall in love with you. Rather than torturing each other, we should let go. Maybe we can still be friends."
"I said no! I won't divorce you! Even if I die, I'll cling to you!"
Finn nodded.
"In that case, we'll go through legal proceedings."
Phoenicia's law had a provision that if one party filed for divorce and the other didn't agree, as long as the party wanting the divorce filed a lawsuit, they would be automatically divorced after six months of separation.
Scarlett's disagreement was useless.
After speaking, he picked up his jacket from the back of the chair and headed out.
But just as he walked into the elevator, Scarlett chased in after him.
"Finn! Stop right there!"
She rushed in just as the elevator doors were closing.
Finn couldn't get out, so he simply met her gaze.
"Anything else to say? Or have you changed your mind?"
"Never! Don't forget how you got to where you are today. If you dare file for divorce, I guarantee The Lewis Family will make you lose everything you have now. And your father's case - don't think you can wash your hands of it!"
The main reason Scarlett had been able to force Finn to marry her was Finn's father's death.
So if she could force him to marry her then, she could use this to keep him tied down now.
But unexpectedly, Finn gave a cold laugh, so cold it went to the bone.
Scarlett even felt a chill down her spine.
"What are you laughing at? Don't think that just because so much time has passed, you can pretend nothing happened. The evidence that you killed your own father is still with my grandfather. You'll never be able to leave me! I'll cling to you for the rest of my life!"
Finn looked at her deeply and spoke expressionlessly, "What do you think I was talking to Grandpa about on the phone?"
Scarlett was slightly stunned, quickly understanding what he meant.
"You mean Grandpa agreed too?"
"That's right."
Anthony agreed to set him free, and he had Scarlett to thank for that.
If it weren't for Scarlett's "outburst" today, Anthony wouldn't have been completely disappointed in her.
But Anthony also made one condition.
That Finn would take the Lewis surname in the future.
Anthony would have Scarlett's father adopt Finn as his godson.
He would still be the heir of The Lewis Family, just no longer Scarlett's husband.
And in the future, Finn's son would also have to take the Lewis surname.
Finn agreed.
He didn't like his surname anyway, and he deeply hated his biological father.
What surname he had didn't matter to him.
They reached an agreement.
