Chapter 270 Hating Her Even More
"Impossible! Grandpa would never agree to divorce me!"
Scarlett's face first turned pale, then flushed with anger.
She stared hard at Finn's face, trying to find any trace of a lie in his eyes.
But there was nothing.
She couldn't find any sign of guilt in Finn's face.
But she still refused to believe it.
That was her grandfather!
The person who loved her the most.
Since childhood, whatever she wanted would be brought to her immediately by Anthony, who adored her so much.
What's more, Anthony really appreciated Finn.
Once they divorced, Anthony would lose Finn as his grandson-in-law.
Anthony couldn't possibly do something so ridiculous.
"I don't believe it!" she said.
The elevator arrived at the first floor.
Finn walked out expressionlessly, tossing out "Believe it or not" as he left.
Scarlett tried to chase after him but was stopped by Finn's security guard.
"Let me go! I need to get to the bottom of this!"
But Finn had already gotten into his car and left.
"He's lying to me, he must be lying!"
Scarlett seemed to be talking to herself.
Suddenly she turned around, hailed a taxi, and headed to The Lewis Manor.
She had to ask Anthony herself!
She didn't believe a word Finn said!
When she got to The Lewis Manor, not only did Anthony not deny it, he had people lock her in a room.
"Don't let her out until she calms down and can talk properly."
Anthony ordered the two guards at the door, his face dark as he left.
Meanwhile, Amelia went straight to the master bedroom when she got home and slept for a long time.
When she woke up again, it was already the next day.
She had slept for over fifteen hours.
Her stomach was starting to feel hungry.
After washing up, Amelia prepared to go downstairs to find something to eat.
She saw Samuel wearing an apron, directing the servants to set the table.
Amelia paused, asking, "When did you get back?"
"Two hours ago." Samuel said while beckoning her to come sit down for lunch.
"Why didn't you wake me?"
He said, "You were sleeping so soundly, I thought I'd let you sleep a bit more. I used the time to cook for you."
Amelia looked at the dining table and asked in surprise, "Don't tell me you made all these dishes?"
Samuel nodded and handed her utensils.
"Try it, and tell me what you think."
Amelia randomly picked two dishes to taste, and her eyes quickly lit up.
"This tastes just like All Seasons Table, exactly the same."
"Looks like my cooking skills have improved."
Amelia knew that Samuel had specially gone to learn cooking from the chefs at All Seasons Table for her sake.
He had shown off his skills once before, but only made a few dishes.
Now he could make a whole table of food.
"When did you even learn all this? I never see you taking any breaks."
Samuel said, "When you marry into the family later, you'll know when I learned all this."
Although they saw each other every day, they weren't together twenty-four hours a day.
Amelia's lips curved up, warmth spreading through her heart.
She knew Samuel was very busy, yet he still made time to learn how to cook because of her.
All Seasons Table's dishes were served according to when the ingredients were in season. What Samuel made today were all winter vegetables.
Amelia's favorite was the lamb stew with radish.
She didn't used to like lamb much because she couldn't stand the gamey smell.
But this lamb stew with radish had no gamey smell at all, just the sweet freshness of the radish.
After eating, Amelia broke out in a sweat.
Thornfield was already warm inside, and after sweating, she felt refreshed all over, even feeling like she could go outside in light clothing.
"It snowed last night. Later, dress warmly and I'll take you to the garden to build a snowman," Samuel said.
"Okay." Amelia had just agreed when she remembered something important.
"How's the situation at the hospital? What about Zachary?"
Samuel said, "According to your plan, my people stopped him at the airport. He's probably making a fuss now, but we don't need to worry about it. Let's enjoy ourselves first. When my dad wakes up, we'll continue with our plan."
Amelia nodded.
She went upstairs to put on the heavy clothes Samuel had prepared for her.
She wore a rabbit fur scarf around her neck and thick snow boots on her feet, making her look round and plump all over.
Samuel couldn't help pinching her cheeks, then kissing her forehead.
"So cute." he said.
Amelia coughed awkwardly and said, "Let's go build the snowman."
"No rush, put this on first."
Samuel took her hand and put fluffy gloves on her, then covered them with leather gloves.
"This way when the snow melts, your hands won't freeze."
He was meticulous, taking care of her like a child.
Amelia's earlobes turned red—she really did look like a rabbit now.
The two of them held hands and went to the back garden.
Sure enough, just as Samuel said, it had snowed all night and the snow was very deep.
When Amelia stepped into it, the snow came up to her knees.
"I told them not to shovel the snow on purpose. Play as much as you want, and we'll have it cleared after you're done."
Amelia nodded. Just as she was about to walk deeper, her eyes suddenly rolled, and she turned around and pushed Samuel into the snow.
Samuel immediately fell backward.
But he cunningly grabbed her hand.
Both of them fell into the snow together.
Amelia got up brushing snow off herself while glaring at Samuel.
Samuel spread his hands, "You pushed me first."
"I don't care! You pulling me down with you is still your fault!"
"Okay, okay, my fault." Samuel took off his gloves and brushed the snow from her hair, in an unusually good mood.
Because he could feel that Amelia was becoming more and more natural around him.
Before, she was like an emotionless robot, but now she would show a girl's playful anger.
He was very pleased.
Because no one is born without feelings—Amelia just didn't show her true self in front of him before.
Now it was clear she had completely let down her guard around him, which was why she was showing her real self.
Her real self was absolutely adorable.
"What kind of snowman do you want to build?" he asked her.
Amelia thought for a moment and said, "A big one, as big as possible."
"Okay." Samuel put his gloves back on and got to work.
Amelia helped at first, but soon got tired.
She had been busy in the operating room for so long yesterday, and although she had slept a long time, her body hadn't fully recovered.
So it turned into Amelia watching Samuel build the snowman from inside through the glass.
Soon the snowman was finished.
It was a very big snowman.
Amelia had to stand on her tiptoes to touch its carrot nose.
"Too bad we can't take it back to Goldenvale, otherwise Dad, Mom, and my brothers could see it."
Samuel said, "What's so hard about that? I'll have someone transport it to Goldenvale later."
Amelia took it as a joke.
On the way to Goldenvale, it would melt.
Just then, Amelia received a call from Liam.
"Amelia, want to get together tonight?"
"Sure."
Amelia agreed and asked him, "Where?"
"I'm not too familiar with this area yet. Can you ask Samuel?"
"Okay. We'll figure it out and let you know."
"Great."
After hanging up, Amelia told Samuel about it.
Samuel gave her an address, which Amelia sent to Liam.
"Do you want just the three of us to eat, or should we invite more people?" Samuel asked her.
Amelia thought for a moment and said, "More people would be livelier. Let's call Jeremy, York, and the others."
Samuel said, "You can also invite your people."
Now that the Shadow Operations Division people no longer needed to hide their identities like before.
Everyone could come out and have fun openly.
"Then we'll need to change locations. I have quite a few people stationed here."
"Should we go to a hotel then?"
"Okay."
Samuel quickly found a suitable new place. Amelia first told Liam about this, then went to notify the Shadow Operations Division people in Thornfield to have dinner at that hotel tonight.
After all the bustle, it was soon evening.
The hotel they went to was called "Golden Ember Hotel."
This hotel was usually hard to book. Samuel had wanted to reserve the whole place, but other people had made reservations in advance.
Samuel wasn't an unreasonable person.
Everyone was celebrating the new year—leaving others with no place to eat would be pretty heartless, so he didn't force a full reservation.
But he did book the entire lounge on the third floor.
Other reserved guests would eat in private rooms on the second floor and wouldn't disturb them.
However, neither Amelia nor Samuel expected to run into someone they knew in the elevator.
The two of them took the elevator upstairs. When the elevator doors opened on the second floor.
They immediately saw the people outside the elevator.
It was Finn and Scarlett.
Both of them didn't look too good.
Of course, Finn just looked cold and distant, while Scarlett's face was pale, without any makeup, looking quite haggard.
The two had meant to go downstairs but had mistakenly pressed the up button, which was how they saw Amelia and Samuel heading to the third floor.
Finn greeted them first.
"Mr. Crawford, Amelia. Are you here for dinner too?"
He wasn't surprised that Samuel and Amelia were in Thornfield.
Samuel ignored Finn.
Although Finn had gotten together with Scarlett for a reason and hadn't actually been unfaithful, the hurt to Amelia was real.
Amelia could forgive him, but Samuel couldn't.
He considered himself a petty person.
So for him, not going after Finn was already his greatest mercy.
Want him to be friendly?
No way!
Amelia nodded.
"We're here for dinner. Are you eating here too?"
"Yes. I'm going downstairs to pick up Grandpa."
"We're going upstairs."
"Then we'll wait outside. You go up first."
"Okay."
The elevator doors slowly closed.
Throughout the whole process, Scarlett didn't say a word, but her eyes seemed poisoned, staring hard at Amelia, making Amelia frown slightly.
When the elevator reached the third floor, Amelia finally spoke, "Scarlett still resents me."
"Not necessarily because of Anthony." Samuel said, "The look in her eyes just now—she looked like she wanted to eat you alive. If we weren't celebrating the new year today, I would have gouged out those eyes of hers."
Amelia turned to comfort Samuel instead, "A look can't kill anyone."
But in her heart, she didn't understand why Scarlett hated her even more than before.
