Chapter 112 It Is Her First Time
Halfway through the document, as it involved more and more business secrets, Amelia finally couldn't continue reading.
She put down the document and reminded him: "This is such an important document. I suggest you have your secretary come in to read it for you."
Samuel looked at her: "Would you leak these secrets?"
"Of course not."
"There you go. I trust you."
"Isn't your trust a bit cheap? We haven't even met ten times."
Samuel nodded: "Got it. I'll meet with you more often from now on."
Was that what she meant?
Did Samuel even know when to pick his moments to be shameless?
"Continue."
He closed his eyes, looking like he was conserving his energy.
Amelia was completely defeated by him.
But she couldn't deny that being trusted by someone didn't feel bad.
One document, six pages in total. Amelia finished reading it in twenty minutes.
She looked up at Samuel. He still had his eyes closed. She didn't know if he'd been listening.
"I'm done reading. Can I leave now?"
Samuel didn't open his eyes, didn't even lift his eyelids.
She put down the document and walked over.
"Did you hear me? I'm done reading."
She was met with silence.
Was he asleep?
Then what was the point of having her read?
She frowned and turned to leave.
But when she reached the door, she couldn't bring herself to do it. She went back and draped his suit jacket over him.
Samuel still didn't move, sleeping soundly.
Earlier, she'd checked his temperature with the back of her hand. He had a fever of at least 103.1 degrees Fahrenheit.
It must have taken a lot out of him to talk to her that much.
She adjusted the suit jacket, tucking it in carefully to prevent it from sliding off if he turned.
When she was done, she couldn't help but look at him again.
Normally, he was like an unreachable mountain.
Now that he was sick, he'd become a sleeping beast, completely harmless.
No matter how strong someone is, they're still made of flesh and blood.
When sick, their usual sharp edges are dulled, making them seem incredibly peaceful, even a bit vulnerable.
This was the first time Amelia had seen Samuel like this. She found it rather novel.
However, Samuel's phone ringing interrupted her thoughts.
"Your phone."
Samuel didn't react, just frowned slightly.
Left with no choice, Amelia answered it for him.
The caller was Jeremy.
"Mr. Crawford."
"It's me."
Amelia's voice made Jeremy pause on the other end, but he quickly recovered and respectfully addressed her: "Ms. Richardson."
Amelia acknowledged him and explained: "Samuel has a fever and is sleeping now. Send someone you trust over. I need to leave."
Jeremy paused again, then quickly said: "Ms. Richardson, could you please look after Mr. Crawford for me? I'll have someone there within five minutes."
"Alright."
Five minutes wouldn't make much difference.
After the call ended, in less than three minutes, someone knocked and came in.
It was an unfamiliar face.
A doctor followed behind him.
Though dressed in regular clothes, Amelia recognized him. He was the one who had treated Felix that day when she took him to Samuel's house.
Both men were very polite to her.
"Ms. Richardson, thank you so much for looking after Mr. Crawford."
Amelia nodded slightly and said: "I did physical cooling for him, but his temperature is too high. You still need to give him medicine to bring down the fever quickly. Physical cooling can't replace fever medication."
"Yes." The doctor nodded.
After giving her instructions, Amelia prepared to leave.
She had another very important matter to attend to today and had already wasted quite a bit of time because of Samuel.
"Let me see you out," the doctor said quickly.
"No need. I can go down myself. I know the way. Just take good care of him."
With that, Amelia left without looking back.
She didn't notice that the second she walked out the door, Samuel opened his eyes.
He had been pretending to sleep.
To see if she would just leave without caring about him.
She didn't leave right away, but quickly had Jeremy send someone over.
He felt a bit disappointed, but not too disappointed.
At least she'd covered him with his jacket, worried he might freeze to death.
When it came to Amelia, Samuel was always good at consoling himself.
Actually, he found it strange—why, after knowing each other for less than a month, was he so deeply attracted to her?
So much so that whether the woman in the surveillance footage was actually Amelia no longer mattered.
Continuing to search for the woman in the footage was just a precaution.
In case it wasn't Amelia, he could at least send a gift as compensation.
Either way, even though he'd been forced by circumstances and couldn't control himself at the time, he still owed that person.
What he owed was the most precious thing a girl has.
That girl had been a virgin.
He could tell.
Just thinking that Amelia might not be that girl made him feel uncomfortable.
Like ants were gnawing at his feet.
But before, he'd thought that memory, though blurry, was very beautiful.
Perhaps now that he had someone he cared about, he'd developed a sense of possessiveness.
He just hoped that person was her.
Three days. Just three more days, and he'd know the truth.
"Mr. Crawford, you're awake?"
The doctor was a bit surprised. Just moments ago, he'd seemed fast asleep.
"Just woke up."
"Ms. Richardson just left. Before she did, she told me to take good care of you. She's very concerned about your health." The doctor was a smart man.
After all, she was the first woman Samuel had brought back to his residence.
Even if she wasn't someone he liked, she was different from other women.
Samuel's face indeed showed a hint of a smile.
"Let me take your temperature?"
"Okay."
After taking his temperature, the fever had gone down a bit, but was still above 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
He needed to take fever medication.
Samuel took the medicine and called Jeremy.
"What happened at the photo studio?"
Jeremy immediately told him everything.
Samuel's eyes grew deep, and if you looked carefully, you could see a hint of coldness in them.
"Fire that guy Louie."
Jeremy on the other end paused slightly and reminded him: "He's one of our company's veteran agents. He's managed quite a few popular artists."
Samuel repeated: "Fire him."
"Yes." This time Jeremy didn't hesitate at all.
He'd known Louie's fate from the moment he opened his mouth.
His earlier reminder was just part of his duty as a subordinate.
The doctor in the office was still busy.
Samuel's fever had come on suddenly. He'd only brought fever medication, but just taking that wasn't enough. Samuel valued efficiency, even when sick.
"Mr. Crawford, I'll go to the pharmacy to get some other medicine."
Samuel nodded. After the doctor left, he spoke again to Jeremy on the phone: "Lucas is also with Aurora Media?"
Lucas wasn't bad-looking, was a good actor, and had many talents. By all rights, he should have become famous long ago.
But the company had never promoted him. That was strange.
He hadn't paid attention to these things before. Although Aurora Media was big, it was just a small part of the Crawford Group and didn't need his personal attention.
Now that there was Amelia, he'd started thinking about this.
"Yes, but he's never gotten any good resources."
"What's going on?"
"I'll look into it." In other words, Jeremy didn't know the reason either.
"I want results by the end of today."
"Yes."
Meanwhile, after leaving the branch office, Amelia dialed a long-overdue number.
