Chapter 306: It Turns Out to Be So Painful

Chapter 306: It Turns Out to Be So Painful

"I told you before, I could compensate you in other ways," William said angrily.

"How are you going to compensate me?" Isabella said loudly. "William, I want to be with you."

"Not just for half a year. I want us to get married, have children, and grow old together."

"I want us to be together forever! For this lifetime, I want us to be together!"

Isabella's self-righteous voice echoed throughout the hospital room.

William laughed quietly.

He looked at Isabella.

So this was Isabella's true face.

Threats, greed, unscrupulous coveting.

Foolish.

How could he have been so foolish?

"Isabella, if it weren't for the fact that you went to that appointment in Amelia's place back then," his voice was hoarse, cold to the bone, "I would kill you right now!"

Isabella immediately said, "William, you can't do this!"

"I can," William said.

At worst, they'd die together.

Without Amelia, how would he spend the rest of his life?

"Let me go, William, let me go!" Isabella looked at William's terrifying expression, panicking. "Remember what you owe me. You have to pay it back! If you don't, I'll go find Amelia and make her pay!"

But William didn't say anything.

He just looked at Isabella.

As if he wanted to memorize this ugly side of her.

William took out his phone and called Rhys.

Rhys came in immediately.

"Mr. Brown," Rhys said.

William pointed at Isabella. "Let her know the price of deceiving me!"

Rhys understood what he meant.

"No, don't!" Isabella screamed.

Isabella wanted to say more.

But she realized that if she spoke, she would expose what happened a year ago.

If William knew that the 'accident' a year ago was also orchestrated by her...

Isabella shrank back.

He thought he owed her. Even if there was a price to pay, it would just be a price, nothing too terrible.

Amelia was already with York. Maybe she could still find some way to turn things around later.

But if he knew she orchestrated everything, then she'd be finished.

She still had a chance.

She could still fix this!

With that thought, Isabella didn't speak. She just struggled and screamed.

William had already turned around and walked out of the hospital room slowly.

His leg hadn't healed yet.

Walking in the corridor outside now, waves of pain shot through his leg, as if every step was on the tip of a knife.

But he seemed to feel nothing.

He kept walking, His assistant followed behind with a wheelchair, at a loss, not daring to make a sound.

Until they reached an intersection.

William looked up at the cold white lights in the corridor.

What appeared before his eyes was the scene of Amelia covered in blood on a stretcher.

What had she been thinking then?

Had she also looked at these cold white lights like he was doing now?

William laughed, a miserable laugh.

Next to him was an emergency stairwell.

In the dark stairwell, only the exit sign gave off a faint green glow.

It looked scary.

Like a beast with its mouth wide open, ready to swallow him.

William looked at the stairwell door. He reached out, pushed it open, and walked in step by step.

Swallowed by darkness.

He walked to a landing.

Looking at the dark, empty stairwell below, the scene from the stairwell at Evergreen Hospital seemed to appear before his eyes again.

Everything had been chaotic then.

By the time he realized she was falling, it was too late.

All he saw in the end was his hand that he hadn't pulled back.

He had pushed her.

Isabella was right.

He did it.

With his own hands, he killed their child. He nearly killed her.

William laughed, laughing until tears kept falling.

His laughter grew louder, echoing throughout the stairwell.

In this moment, he seemed completely broken.

He laughed hard. Not having slept for a long time, plus not eating or drinking, along with the pain in his leg, made him dizzy.

Suddenly, everything went black.

The world spun.

William was already standing by the stairs. Now, unable to steady himself, he fell straight down the stairs.

"Mr. Brown!" The assistant who had been following behind immediately tried to grab him.

But just like when Amelia had fallen down the stairs.

The assistant couldn't catch William either.

William tumbled down like that.

A whole flight, not stopping even when he reached the next landing, until his back hit the wall and he finally stopped.

"Mr. Brown!" The assistant's panicked voice rang out, suddenly triggering the motion-sensor lights in the stairwell.

William stared at a spot on the landing, feeling pain throughout his body.

He laughed painfully.

So this was how much it hurt.

His whole body felt like it was broken.

What about her?

Had she felt the same way back then?

Maybe not.

She'd been in a car accident first.

And...

Back then, she'd been carrying their child.

William cried and laughed, like a madman.

Laughing until finally, he coughed up a mouthful of blood, then completely passed out.

"Mr. Brown!" The assistant screamed in horror. "Mr. Brown, don't scare me!"

If something happened to William under his watch, what would he do?

The assistant immediately called Rhys.

The hospital became chaotic as people ran around.

Everyone hurriedly lifted William onto a stretcher and rushed him to the emergency room.

...

Meanwhile.

At the Jenkins Villa.

Everyone had finished dinner.

Now they were talking, having a good chat.

Especially about Hawk and Mia, asking about their relationship, their plans.

Briar held Whiskers and listened.

Amelia watched all this, feeling it was very warm.

If life could always be like this, that would be wonderful.

"Amelia, come out with me for a moment." Just then, York suddenly spoke.

Amelia looked up at him. "Where to?"

"Come with me. You'll know soon," York said gently.

Amelia nodded, said something to the others, then followed York out.

They first took a shuttle out and came to the lakeside.

"Come." York opened his palm in front of her.

Amelia looked, smiled, and placed her hand in his palm.

York held her hand, his palm warm and dry.

"Come on." York said, "Watch your step."

Amelia carefully followed York onto a small boat.

After sitting down, the boat started, and they headed toward the center of the lake.

The breeze blew gently across the lake.

Amelia looked around curiously, not knowing where York was taking her.

The setting sun slowly descended on the horizon. Amelia stayed by York's side, boating on the lake.

Finally, after about ten minutes, they arrived at a platform in the middle of the lake.

Then, Amelia saw it.
