Chapter 123: It Turns Out Amelia Really Had a Car Accident
The fireworks show in Shadow City went on for a long time, and countless people came out of their homes.
They came to watch this grand fireworks display.
"I haven't heard about any fireworks recently. What event is this for?"
"I don't know. I actually searched for it a couple days ago. Didn't we just have a holiday not long ago? I checked and there were no events scheduled around this time."
"Then what's going on?"
"Maybe some rich guy is doing it to make his girlfriend happy. Remember a year ago when William and Amelia got married? They had fireworks all over the city too."
"Right, I remember that. The whole city, it went on forever. Only William has enough money to do something like that."
"Too bad though. They've only been married a year and William's already following Isabella around everywhere."
"Don't say that. Isabella's a poor thing too."
......
Isabella saw the fireworks too, of course.
The day William and Amelia came out of the marriage registry office, William showed her the divorce receipt. She knew the timing.
So these past few days, she'd been keeping a low profile, not daring to provoke Amelia.
She was afraid Amelia wouldn't agree to the divorce.
But...
Isabella paced back and forth at home with her phone.
Why was there still no news?
She'd already sent someone to collect the five million dollars, but after that...
Things absolutely couldn't go wrong. What if Amelia found out about those things and went to William with them, and they ended up not getting divorced after all?
After all, after the 30-day cooling-off period, they still had to collect the certificate within the next 30 days.
Thinking about it, Isabella couldn't help but call the person again.
Soon, they picked up.
"How's it going?" Isabella asked in a low voice.
"Working on it," a deep male voice said.
"Remember to check their cloud storage and places like that. It would be bad if they set up any scheduled messages or something," Isabella said quietly.
"Got it," the deep voice replied.
"Where are you now? Make sure you get clear answers, okay?" Isabella reminded him.
"The suburbs." The man was speaking when suddenly there was a sound of something heavy hitting the ground.
"Damn it!" the deep voice cursed, then hung up.
......
Meanwhile, in the suburbs, Mia was humming a song as she headed to the Wilson Villa in the outskirts.
She had some good wine stored in the Wilson Villa's wine cellar.
She needed to go get it quickly. Tomorrow when Amelia got her divorce certificate, they were going to celebrate properly!
She was humming and turning onto a small road when she suddenly heard a huge crash up ahead!
What was that?
She turned a big corner and suddenly saw a black car not far ahead.
The black car was speeding forward without slowing down.
It looked like it had hit something and sent it flying!
The thing rolled several times ahead - it looked like... a person!
Then the car, without slowing down, ran over them again!
This was deliberate!
Mia screamed.
She couldn't worry about anything else. She immediately pulled over and turned on her hazard lights.
Watching the big car speed away, she immediately called 911.
......
Dash and William arrived at the police station together.
They had been about to reach Evergreen Hospital when Dash's phone rang. Mia was crying on the other end, saying she'd witnessed a hit-and-run and asking him to pick her up at the police station.
It was the suburban police station.
William, sitting next to him, heard.
So he had Dash get in his car to go there, saying they'd pass by his place and could drop him off.
But in the end he decided to go along and see if he could help.
They dropped the female driver off halfway, and went with Rhys to the suburban police station.
Mia was still giving her statement.
Although she was a doctor and used to seeing blood and gore, this was the first time she'd seen a murder scene.
Though she didn't know if the person who'd been hit and run over was dead.
She'd done some emergency treatment at the time, but then 911 took them away, and she didn't know their condition.
She was much calmer now than when she'd called Dash.
Azalea was passing by when she happened to see William.
Earlier she'd been organizing files at the police station, planning to summon William for questioning the next day. But then she got a call about a case in the suburbs. They'd checked nearby surveillance and saw the driver.
Although the driver was disguised, the build looked a bit like the person from Amelia's case.
Since she'd seen footage from the city police station before and had some impression of it, they sent the clip to Azalea and called her over.
She'd just taken a look - couldn't be 100% sure, but it looked similar.
As soon as she came out, she saw William. Why was he here?
What a coincidence?
So she immediately called out to William.
"William!" Azalea strode over.
William thought it was strange - he didn't seem to know this female officer.
"Ma'am, can I help you?" William replied.
Dash next to him also looked over curiously.
"William, Amelia's husband, right?" Azalea showed her badge and asked.
William nodded.
"About your wife Amelia's car accident..."
After Azalea finished the paperwork and sat William down in a chair, he finally understood what had happened.
Rhys had followed along, just now saying something about waiting for a lawyer.
But when William heard about Amelia's car accident, he went right in.
Car accident...
William suddenly had a feeling.
It seemed he was about to learn some truth.
The police asked many questions.
Where was he that night?
He said at the Brown Group.
Who was he with?
He said with Isabella.
The specific time and place.
He answered everything one by one.
But all he could think about was - so that night, she really did have a car accident.
"We noticed that you and Amelia are currently in the divorce cooling-off period..."
This was reasonable suspicion of a motive for hiring someone to kill.
"We're going to get the divorce certificate tomorrow," William said.
The officers looked at each other and nodded.
Actually, after multiple investigations, their suspicion of William had decreased somewhat.
Instead, they were focusing more attention on another person.
"That night your wife's phone called you so many times, why didn't you answer?" Azalea continued asking.
"I..." William didn't know what to say.
At that time, he'd received Amelia's call, but he thought she was going to argue with him, so he hung up.
Later when she called again, he put it on do-not-disturb and ignored her.
The two officers looked at each other again.
They told him to answer.
William answered many things, and the police asked many questions.
All sorts of details, they asked a lot.
But his mind was in complete chaos.
