Chapter 124 Learning It's Not an Act, William's Pain

Chapter 124 Learning It's Not an Act, William's Pain

"We noticed your company has someone named Louis, who you fired back then. What was the specific reason?" Azalea asked.

"Does this have anything to do with the case?" William asked.

"We need to question anyone suspicious."

William's eyes glazed over, his mind in chaos: "Nepotism, corruption."

...

Even after William came out, everything still felt unreal to him.

He leaned against the wall in the side corridor. Around him were the busy sounds of the police station at night, but in his mind there was only Azalea's questioning from earlier.

"Your wife's phone called you so many times that day. Why didn't you answer?"

He stared at the ceiling, his heart feeling like it was being violently torn apart by a giant hand. The pain was intense.

"Mr. Brown, Mr. Brown, are you okay?" Rhys hurried over, with the lawyer he had just called following behind him.

The lawyer went to communicate with the other side.

William just shook his head.

To the side, Mia and Dash sat on chairs not far away, talking.

"Dash, it really scared me. Even though I've encountered situations at work where I couldn't help, this was my first time witnessing a murder in person," Mia said quietly.

"You already did great," Dash comforted her gently. "You called the police right away, made sure it was safe and gave emergency treatment. I called my colleagues - that person is still being resuscitated."

"How is it going?" Mia asked urgently.

"It's difficult..." Dash sounded heavy.

"I just heard they've sealed off the area nearby to search, but I heard the area where the car was abandoned is surrounded by deep mountains. If someone hides in there, who knows..."

Mia was halfway through when suddenly a shadow fell beside her.

She looked up and found it was William.

She felt annoyed seeing William and stood up to leave.

"Mia." William stopped her.

"I know now." William said, his fists clenched tight.

Mia stopped and turned to look at William.

Dash beside her frowned slightly and asked, "What do you know now?"

He had felt uneasy when William was taken in for questioning earlier.

Because he and Mia had both cooperated with the police before.

"I know she..." But William only looked at Mia. His eyes were slightly red, his voice very low as he said, "That day, there really was a car accident."

Mia couldn't help but roll her eyes.

She was really about to die of anger.

She pointed at William's nose and scolded: "William, I told you that day that Amelia had a car accident and to get to the hospital quickly. You came, but you brought Isabella with you!"

"Wasn't it enough that Amelia got hit by a car? Did you have to give her emotional trauma too?"

Mia felt wronged thinking about this. After she called William that day, she found out Amelia's wasn't an ordinary car accident - someone had deliberately hit her.

And William, as Amelia's husband, was highly suspected.

"William, I also told you that day that she was deliberately hit. I even asked if you did it. Wasn't that direct enough!" Mia said angrily.

William opened his lips. He wanted to say he thought they were deliberately acting.

In the end, he didn't say it.

But Dash figured it out.

"I heard from Mia that you thought Amelia and she were acting to trick you."

William didn't answer, just looked at Mia in front of him, feeling everything was unreal.

"William, my dad may be the hospital director, but hospital resources aren't meant to be used like this."

Dash wasn't as emotional as Mia, but every sentence was like a heavy hammer hitting William's heart, painfully.

"That day, I came downstairs to find you."

Dash said seriously: "I did say some things to provoke you, but William, ask yourself - your wife was hospitalized, shouldn't you have gone to see her?"

"If you had checked her medical records, you would have known what really happened to her."

Dash looked at William's reddened eyes.

He said firmly: "But you didn't."

"In fact, she was hospitalized for so long, and you never went to see her."

"He did go see her," Mia beside him laughed mockingly and said, "Didn't he say he saw you and Amelia hugging?"

"Right, I almost forgot." Dash nodded. "Thanks for reminding me."

"But even if you and Amelia were really hugging, so what? He's been going around with Isabella plenty, all worried and concerned about her. Besides, you were just supporting Amelia who couldn't move easily!"

"Most importantly, Amelia was pushed down the stairs by him, and he could still say such awful things!"

"Amelia stayed by his side for so many years, how much did she give for him? But in the end, she couldn't get even a bit of his true heart. Dash, his heart was really fed to the dogs!"

Dash beside her picked up: "No, it was fed to Isabella."

Mia laughed coldly and said, "I get it now - the dog is Isabella."

These two, going back and forth, sometimes angrily scolding, sometimes coldly mocking.

The more William listened, the sadder he felt.

All he could hear were their voices. He had a spinning sensation.

She was hospitalized for so many days, and he didn't go see her even once.

She fell down the stairs, and he pushed her. Although it was chaotic at the time and not his intention.

He even said she was acting.

His heart tore apart piece by piece in pain.

And her car accident...

"Her car accident... how badly was she hurt?" After a long while, William finally spoke, his voice terribly hoarse, like the sound of tree bark scraping.

"Don't you have eyes to see for yourself?" Mia said angrily with red eyes. "And most importantly, you pushed her down the stairs, do you know that!"

"I didn't mean to." William answered. "That day..."

He wanted to explain, but seeing Mia's eyes red with anger, he realized explanations were useless.

Whether intentional or not, that final push was indeed from him.

Before William's eyes appeared that day in the hospital corridor - Amelia standing to the side with a pale face, gauze on her head, asking what they were doing.

And after she fell down the stairs, her distant call from behind - "William."

His vision kept spinning.

What kept appearing was her smile, her tears, and that night when he said divorce, her dazed look at him, questioning him - "What about me?" - those eyes.

"Dash, look, some people only make excuses for themselves and don't care about the truth at all."

"One sentence 'I didn't mean to' and he thinks everything can just be brushed aside? That's too easy!"

Mia beside them was still making pointed remarks, but William seemed unable to hear.

He felt all the air around him had been sucked dry.

An intense feeling of suffocation.
