69. Keeping the Wife
"Hey, brother!" Alex came to greet his older brother casually, flinging the back of his white blazer to sit comfortably across from him. "Did you find your wife's shooter? I hope you didn't come for that."
"What do you expect me to do?" Jonathan asked back. He sat down casually on the sofa.
Alex laughed. "I didn't expect it, anyway. But it would be nice if you complimented my hotel."
Jonathan was intrigued. "Compliments?"
"I don't insist."
"I'll praise it if it's good."
Alex moistened his lower lip. "So, my hotel is no good?"
"My hotel is better. So, I don't think it's necessary to compliment you. I don't like acting. I'm sorry I'm different from you."
Alex was stunned while holding back the fire that was about to explode in his head. He rubbed his chin slowly. "So, you're stalking me?"
"What would I do that for?" Jonathan laughed. "I was waiting for your staff to work for a long time." He moved his seat closer to his brother. A little forward as he whispered, "This is why I can't praise you." Then grinned.
Feeling pressured, Alex tugged at his tie, which felt increasingly suffocating. "Who's in charge here, idiot?!" shouted Alex, startling the entire room. "Why so slow?!"
It seemed like Jonathan's younger brother was screeching as a way to vent his anger because he knew Jonathan was no match for him, especially when he was alone.
"O-Okay, sir." An innocent man ran over.
"Are you in charge?" asked Alex with a fiery face.
"Y-Yes, sir. I was confirming the guest in question."
Slap!
"Ugh!"
"You idiot!" snapped Alex after slapping the staff.
The sight made Jonathan close his eyes, unwilling to see the violence across him. Not just one slap, Alex also kicked him to the ground. Some of the other staff tried to break it up so they could be separated, but the staff who fell had blood stains around their lips.
Jonathan stood in the middle of the commotion. He casually approached with his hands in his pockets. "Are you always like this, Alex?"
"What?!"
"Don't take your anger out on those who are innocent," Jonathan continued with a smirk. "If you want to be better than me, you have to learn to be calm."
"How dare you advise me?!" screeched Alex, but security was able to restrain him from attacking.
"Sure. I'm your brother."
"Just because you're my brother? You're much meaner than me, you hypocrite!"
"Not really. I do violence to those who are wrong. Whereas he..." Jonathan pointed at the lying staff. "You're just using him as an outlet."
"Control yourself, then you'll be more successful than me." Jonathan turned toward the staff.
"No. If I were more successful than you, you would do the same. You'll bring me down no matter what!"
Jonathan stopped his steps, grinning. "Don't jump to conclusions with your mirror! You're judging me by your grades, right?"
Not wanting to care about his younger brother, who was now being taken by the staff to another place while still angry, Jonathan approached the lying staff.
"She's my brother. After all, even though I instinctively never thought she existed." Jonathan gave the man some money. "Use it for medical treatment. The rest will be sent by my assistant.
"Thank you, sir."
"Then, where is the guest I asked to investigate earlier?"
Without Jonathan realizing it, when he left the hotel area, the figure he was looking for was at a bus stop nearby. Luca was waiting for a taxi instead of an inner-city bus.
Despite being asked to move out of the hotel suddenly, Luca did not feel burdened. It was as if he already knew what was happening. Of course, it was because Cathy wanted to be close to him without her husband knowing.
Luca was stunned. "So, her husband has started to know about us? Even about me being here?"
The man was still trying to guess. "Who exactly is Catharina's husband? Why..." Luca narrowed his eyes. "Why go to such lengths?"
Then he nodded. "Of course. Even I, who am not her husband, want to keep her by my side. Moreover, he's her husband."
Luca waved a hand towards the taxi. He then put a large suitcase and a backpack into the trunk. On the way, he got a call that made his heart skip a beat.
"Yes, my dear?" Luca picked up the phone excitedly.
"Have you moved in?" Cathy's voice was a whisper. Even Luca understood why.
"I have. I'm on my way to the place you sent me."
"Oh, thank goodness."
"That means we can be close, right? Yeah, even though I know we can't see each other every day. It seems like your husband is very protective."
"You understand my situation very well, Luca. But I promise I'll try to see you."
"Catharina," Luca called softly. "You know how much I still love you, don't you?"
She didn't respond immediately. There was only silence for some time.
Luca continued, "I'm willing to risk a lot, and sacrifice a lot in my life."
Meanwhile, Jonathan was on his way. He remained silent with a blank look. Even Jayden occasionally glanced in the rearview mirror to check on his boss.
"Sir, why don't you try going after Mr. Luca? After all, his checkout is only half an hour away from your arrival. He must still be nearby."
"No need." Jonathan rubbed his chin in thought. "Jayden
"Yes, Mr.
"What if Luca is the same person as what's been happening all along?"
"What?!" Jayden was shocked beyond belief.
"What if Luca is also Cathy's anonymous client?" he continued muttering silently. Suddenly, his eyes widened as his assumption hit the nail on the head. "Right! That could happen. He comes in with his fake love and wants to get rid of me?"
"Argh!" Jonathan massaged his pulseless forehead. "No, it doesn't. That's a kindergarten mindset."
"Then what's your next plan, sir? Are you going to send your men down?"
"No. This is a problem I need to solve with my hands." Jonathan then gave Jayden a stern look from the rearview mirror. "I still have one other effective way."
Jonathan grinned. "Whatever Luca's role, I don't want him touching my wife."
