Chapter 23
"I apologize. They simply cannot fathom that you are here to assist. However, I am aware that you have no intention of meeting your demise at my hands," he grinned.
"I want you to understand that I am not afraid of death. I made this decision willingly," I responded firmly.
"Alright, fair enough. But how much longer should we wait for him?" he inquired.
"Just wait and take me to the prison immediately," I commanded.
"Wow! Your courage truly astounds me," he smirked.
A few hours had passed, and Alpha Damien still hadn't arrived. It disgusted me to think that perhaps he hadn't truly been searching for me. If he didn't show up to confront these vampires, my plans could be ruined.
"Where is he?!" he asked in a panic.
"Perhaps you are deceiving us," he added.
"Why would I do that?! I'm not foolish enough to willingly go with you and remain imprisoned!" I firmly retorted.
"Alright, calm down, Beautiful. I believe we should eat first. I will return here later," he bid farewell with a smile.
To be honest, I was growing impatient and feeling nervous while waiting. However, my annoyance overshadowed these emotions as I considered the possibility that Aryana had gone to the Woundwoods, causing him to forget about me. Was it truly worth offering myself up to imprisonment just to put him in a precarious situation?
I held my breath, contemplating these thoughts. I overheard the vampires' conversation, even though they were in the kitchen. As I mentioned before, my hearing is as sharp as a wolf's.
"Are you certain that woman isn't deceiving us? Why hasn't the Alpha arrived yet?" a man's voice questioned.
"Her face looks incredibly familiar, but I can't recall where I've seen her," a woman remarked.
"Let us wait and prepare ourselves to face their Alpha. I am certain he will come, as she is his mate," he stated.
"Actually, I have encountered their Alpha before, but I chose to flee because I knew I couldn't defeat him alone. However, now we must join forces in case he decides to fight," he added.
I can't understand why I still have this lingering worry for him. Even though I know I shouldn't sympathize with him and should instead inflict pain upon him. It's so painful to remember what he did to them, and there's no reward for that, so I should ruin his life as well.
After some time, I heard footsteps approaching the house and the vampires started to panic. Alpha Damien's voice reached my ears, and it brought a smile to my face. I felt a mix of happiness and guilt in that moment. I overheard the vampires confronting him outside. I'm not sure why I'm feeling nervous, but I have to stay strong because I'm the one who devised this plan.
I took a deep breath and recalled the nightmare I had last night, allowing my anger to overpower any sense of guilt.
"I know Amelia is here. Get her out!" he exclaimed angrily.
"You're correct, she's here, but we won't be letting her go," the vampire responded sarcastically.
"Don't test me," he threatened.
The vampires simply laughed at him. He screamed, calling out my name.
"Get her out! Amelia! Amelia!" he shouted.
I contemplated crying out, hoping he would hear me from the prison I was trapped in. I heard him panic, but he stopped when the vampire threatened to kill me if he continued.
"What do you want?! Get Amelia out!" he demanded.
"I will only release her if you hand over the ancient wolf fang," the vampire responded with a hint of sarcasm.
"What?! That's impossible!" he exclaimed boldly.
"Alright, I'm open to negotiation," the vampire replied to him.
"Hold on!" he interrupted.
"You must give me the fang in exchange for the freedom of your beloved," the vampire stated seriously.
"Fine, let her go first so I can confirm her presence," he retorted.
The two male vampires swiftly entered, unlocking the cage and escorting me outside to show me to him.
As I stepped through the door, I could sense his concern for me. His radiant eyes softened my emotions. However, I still desired to witness him struggle and suffer.
To my surprise, his eyes burned with intensity and in the blink of an eye, he had already seized me. My eyes widened as I beheld six headless vampires before me. The vampire man I had been with earlier attempted to flee, but he was unsuccessful in escaping his grasp. He pleaded for mercy, but Alpha paid no heed, gripping his clothing tightly. I felt a sense of unease as I heard what he said to him...
"She! She orchestrated everything!" he informed Alpha.
"What?!" he exclaimed in disbelief.
"She willingly offered herself as a captive in exchange for the fang," Vampire added.
Although I felt nervous, I made sure not to show it. I bravely maintained eye contact with him as he looked at me. We stared at each other for a while during that moment. I fearlessly refuted the vampire's claims and defended myself.
"Is that true, Amelia?!" Alpha Damien inquired.
"Don't tell me you believe him! He's our enemy, he's just fabricating stories to destroy us!" I responded boldly.
I heard him sigh and swiftly decapitated the vampire he had been holding by the neck earlier.
"Let's leave this place!" he said with seriousness.
I couldn't tell if he was angry at me because his expression was stern. It was different from what I had expected. I had anticipated seeing the gentle Alpha. I didn't say anything further and simply followed him. However, I couldn't shake off what I had witnessed from my mind. I felt guilty for the vampire because I knew that, like me, he only sought justice for his parents.
"Hurry up! I sense something approaching!" the Alpha urged. He suddenly transformed into a wolf and I climbed onto his back so that we could swiftly reach the Woundwoods. A few moments later, we arrived. He headed straight into the castle where a woman greeted him and handed him clothes. I felt annoyed because he was ignoring me.
