A Gift For You
A Gift For You
“If we disappear now,” Raellyn said with a quiet laugh, watching his shadow merge with hers on the window glass, “I’m afraid they might never forgive us.”
Her reflection caught the playful glimmer in her eyes, and she added, almost shyly, “Oh, by the way… I have a gift for you.”
Arnav’s brows lifted in curiosity, though a spark of happiness danced in his dark eyes.
“And what is it this time?” he asked, his voice low, warm, teasing.
Raellyn’s lips curved into a playful smile. “Mm, nothing too grand, really. It’s just… I thought tonight would be the perfect moment to tell you. We’ve both been so busy with our own worlds, and whenever we finally have time together…” she paused, her cheeks warming as memories flickered through her mind, “…well, those moments tend to be… very intimate.”
Arnav chuckled softly, the rich sound vibrating against her as he held her closer. What she said was the truth. These past weeks, the nights were their only sanctuary. Since Raellyn had been declared fully recovered, he had indulged in every second of their nights together, claiming her with a passion that left no doubt of how much he’d missed her.
“Well then,” he murmured, voice deepening into a gentle command, “tell your husband. What gift do you wish to give me tonight?”
With that, Raellyn turned within the circle of his arms, her soft hands pressing against his chest. Her face was alight with joy, her entire being glowing with a quiet triumph. She looked like the embodiment of happiness itself.
“I think…” she said, drawing out the words with a delicate breath, “…Arrael might be getting a sibling.”
“You—”
The word caught in Arnav’s throat, his voice breaking with pure astonishment. His eyes widened, the usual composure he wore shattered into a raw, unguarded joy. In that moment, his entire face lit up, stunned, euphoric, and utterly undone by the woman in his arms.
Raellyn’s heart swelled as she watched him, the man she loved more than her own breath, overcome with emotion. Her voice trembled with tenderness as she whispered, “I love you, my husband.”
He pulled her against him so tightly she could feel the thunder of his heartbeat beneath her cheek. “And I—” his voice cracked, filled with reverence, “I love you far more, my sweet, beautiful wife. You’ve made me the happiest man alive.”
Later that night, the library became a sanctuary bathed in soft lamplight and the silvery glow of the moon spilling through the tall windows. The distant hum of the house, family laughter fading into night felt like another world entirely. Here, there was only the quiet, the warmth, and the unspoken promise of love that bound them.
Arnav closed the door gently behind them, his gaze never leaving Raellyn. She stood by the bed, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders, her chest rising and falling with a soft anticipation that he could feel across the room. For a moment, he simply admired her. This woman who had turned his life upside down and then rebuilt it into something he had never dared to dream of.
“You’re trembling,” he murmured as he approached her, his voice a deep caress that brushed against her heart.
Raellyn managed a breathless smile. “I’m not afraid… I just… feel everything too much tonight.”
His lips curved into a tender smile, and in the next heartbeat, he pulled her into his arms. His warmth enveloped her completely, one hand splayed across the small of her back, the other sliding into her hair. He kissed her forehead first, lingering there, breathing her in, as if grounding himself in the reality that she was his, heart, body, and soul.
“I can feel it too,” he whispered against her skin. “Every heartbeat, every shiver… every dream we’ve ever had coming true tonight.”
Their lips met, soft at first, almost shy in their reverence. Then, as the weight of the day melted away. The ceremony, the laughter, the tears, the whispered confessions. The kiss deepened. Raellyn’s hands roamed up his chest to his shoulders, clutching the fabric of his shirt before he gently helped her slip it off. The warmth of his skin against hers sent a thrill through her body, and she melted into the moment.
Arnav’s touch was deliberate, slow, worshipful. His fingers traced the familiar curves of her body with a tenderness that made her heart ache. Every kiss he left on her collarbone, every whisper against her ear, was a vow unspoken, a promise that she was his home, his world, his forever.
“Raellyn…” he breathed her name like a prayer, his voice thick with adoration.
“I’m here,” she whispered back, her hands sliding along his spine, holding him closer. “I’m yours… always.”
They moved together as if time had slowed, every motion an expression of love rather than urgency. Moonlight pooled across the sheets, painting their skin in silver and shadow. The night carried only the soft cadence of sighs, murmured promises, and the rhythm of two hearts finally at complete peace.
When at last they lay tangled in each other’s arms, the world outside ceased to exist. Raellyn rested her head on Arnav’s chest, listening to the steady thrum of his heartbeat under her ear. His hand lazily traced circles on her shoulder, as though he couldn’t bear to stop touching her.
“I love you,” he murmured, his voice heavy with contentment.
Raellyn smiled against his skin, her eyelids fluttering shut. “I love you more… and always will.”
Outside, the moon sailed silently across the night sky, its light spilling into the room like a blessing over the couple who had weathered storms, found their way back to love, and now lay wrapped in the promise of forever.
