Chapter 167 Then Take a Different Path

Abigail stood there, stunned for a moment. Her coworkers watched Edward come in and then leave in high spirits, exchanging puzzled glances.

Mr. Harrison had been showing up at their office more frequently, and the number of girls who happened to pass by had noticeably increased.

The few male colleagues in the office were like bees in a flower garden, their eyes dazzled by the sight.

They watched Edward shower Abigail with exclusive, unabashed affection, and the female colleagues couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.

How did she get so lucky?

Odette pulled out her phone and sent a message to Mabel.

[Mr. Harrison just came by. They were so sweet. Can you handle this?]

Mabel's eyes stung with irritation as she threw her phone down forcefully.

The loud "bang" drew the attention of her coworkers.

"What are you looking at? Don't you have work to do? Asher, have you handled the client I assigned to you?"

Asher, who had been called out, grabbed his files and hurried out of the office.

As the workday was ending, Mabel called Abigail to arrange a meeting. Hearing Abigail agree, she breathed a sigh of relief.

It was all Electra's fault. If she hadn't messed things up, her plan would have moved to the next step by now!

Mabel arrived at the restaurant first.

She was short on cash and had to save some money to spruce herself up. When the waiter asked if she wanted to order, her face darkened.

"I'm waiting for a friend."

The waiter nodded slightly and walked away.

About ten minutes later, the bell at the restaurant door jingled, and Abigail walked in.

Mabel smiled, but her smile froze when she saw Edward walk in with her.

Why was Edward here too?

Why didn't Abigail tell her in advance? She wasn't dressed for this, and her makeup wasn't even done properly.

"Mabel, I'm sorry, but Edward..."

"Weren't you looking for a lawyer? There's no team stronger than the Harrison Group's legal team." Edward sat down leisurely and even pulled out a chair for Abigail like a gentleman.

Mabel's eyes sparkled with excitement and admiration. "Mr. Harrison, are you going to help me with my case? Thank you so much."

Edward tapped the table lightly. "You misunderstood. It's the lawyers from the team who will help you. I'm just here on someone's behalf."

As he spoke, Edward looked at Abigail with a playful expression.

Abigail blushed but couldn't lose her temper in front of Mabel.

She coughed twice and said, "The lawyer will be here soon. Let's wait a bit."

Almost as soon as Abigail finished speaking, the bell rang again.

A man with a briefcase, neatly combed hair, and gold-rimmed glasses walked in. "Good evening, Mr. Harrison, Miss Peterson."

Edward nodded, and the lawyer sat down.

He took out a tablet and a recorder, patiently asking for the details.

At first, Mabel was hesitant, frequently glancing at Edward. Seeing that Edward only had eyes for Abigail and didn't spare her a glance, she relaxed and told the lawyer everything.

"Miss Simpson, so you were late, and you have had instances of leaving early before, correct?"

After Mabel finished, the lawyer began confirming the information.

Mabel looked embarrassed and nodded.

She didn't dare look at Edward's expression. As a subordinate, she was worried Edward might dislike her for this.

She nervously fidgeted with her fingers.

"Mr. Harrison, I've got all the information. I'll do my best with Miss Simpson's case."

The lawyer nodded to Abigail and then left.

Mabel sat awkwardly across from Edward, flustered and starting to blame Abigail again.

How could she bring Edward without telling her? Was she trying to embarrass her?

Grinding her teeth in frustration, Mabel forced a smile. "Abigail, Mr. Harrison, you—"

"We should go," Edward suddenly said.

Mabel was taken aback.

"Mabel, we have something to do. I can't stay for dinner. Mr. Fields is very experienced. If you have any questions, feel free to ask him."

Abigail earnestly advised, but Edward couldn't stand it and pulled her away.

"You're too involved. Are you her parents?"

"Mabel is my friend. Why are you always like this?"

"Don't forget what you promised me. Have you thought it through?"

"Can you not talk about this in public?" Abigail was flustered and stood on tiptoe to cover Edward's mouth.

Edward was tall, and as she leaned forward, she fell into his arms.

The smile on Edward's face and the blush on Abigail's cheeks were clear to Mabel.

She clenched her fists unconsciously.

"Miss, you're bleeding," a passing waiter exclaimed.

Mabel was stunned for a moment and quickly left the restaurant.

By the time she chased after them, their luxurious car had already merged into traffic and disappeared.

She stomped her foot in frustration.

Had they forgotten she was still staying at their house?

Just left her like that?

Damn it!

When Mabel returned to the Beverly Hills mansion, she found out Edward and Abigail were out, and Ondine was also out. If she wanted to eat, she could either order takeout or cook for herself.

"Aren't there any other servants?" Mabel nearly screamed.

"Miss Simpson, if you're hungry, I can have someone bring you a portion of the servants' meal," Murray said calmly.

"I won't eat. I'm on a diet!" Mabel couldn't keep up the pretense any longer and stormed into her room.

In the middle of the night, she woke up from a nightmare, sweating. A bear had chased her and swallowed her whole.

Her mouth was dry, and her stomach growled. She walked into the living room.

Passing by the kitchen, she heard rustling sounds and instinctively hid.

"Making pasta for you? Sure?" Edward said.

Abigail responded with a soft "mm."

Mabel's eyes widened. Edward was making pasta for Abigail?

She must have heard wrong. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Soon, the aroma of pasta and cooked vegetables wafted from the kitchen, making Mabel's stomach growl.

Edward glanced toward the door, his gaze drifting back to Abigail.

Seeing Edward glance back, Abigail also looked.

She got up and walked over, making Mabel's heart race.

"The pasta is ready. Come and eat."

Edward's sudden call brought Abigail back, and she glanced once more before returning.

Mabel didn't dare stay and hurried back to her room.

She couldn't sleep, unable to understand.

Wasn't Abigail Edward's lover?

Why would Edward lower himself to cook pasta for her?

What was going on?

As dawn broke, Mabel got up to wash and dress.

She increasingly felt that she couldn't replace Abigail in Edward's heart on her own.

Unless—

That day, she arranged to meet Yvette.

Yvette had just helped Derek secure a collaboration with the Bishop Group. She was in high spirits, her once gaunt face now fuller, and she had a radiant glow.
