Chapter 168 Being Caught

"What's up?" Yvette sat down, her chin slightly raised, looking down with an air of superiority.

Mabel swallowed her fear and said, "Miss Bennett, I used to have some crazy ideas. I promise, from now on, I'll do whatever you say without question."

Yvette chuckled.

"If you had listened earlier, things wouldn't have come to this. Still holding a grudge?"

"It was my fault for having those delusions. How could I blame you, Miss Bennett?"

Mabel's obedience pleased Yvette.

"What's the matter? Spill."

"I've started to gain Abigail's trust. I'm staying at Mr. Harrison's place. Last night... I saw Mr. Harrison cooking pasta for Abigail. After they ate, they... did that kind of thing in the kitchen," Mabel said, watching Yvette's reaction.

As expected, Yvette's face darkened.

"Miss Bennett, what should I do next? I'll follow your instructions," Mabel said sincerely.

"Keep gaining Abigail's trust. Make sure she confides in you completely. I'll give you more instructions later," Yvette said coldly, grabbing her bag and leaving.

Mabel thought for a moment and then chased after her. "Miss Bennett, I'm currently involved in a lawsuit and my finances are tight. Could you—"

Yvette gave her a contemptuous look and transferred a hundred thousand dollars to her.

"Take the money and get yourself sorted. If you mess up my plans, you'll face the consequences."

"I understand. Thank you, Miss Bennett."

With the money in hand, Mabel's voice became much lighter.

Watching Yvette leave, Mabel looked down at her now substantial balance and then headed towards the building across the street.

If she was going to be in the public eye, she needed to look her best.

Not far away, Yvette, who had returned to her car, watched Mabel walk away and let out a cold "hmph."

"Drive to the office."

Abigail had just closed her design portfolio when her phone rang.

She picked it up and paused for a moment.

After being out of touch for over half a month, Stuart finally contacted her. She sighed and asked where he had been. Stuart hesitated.

"Abigail, I only see Calliope as a sister," Stuart said at the end of the call.

"And what about Gabrielle?"

Stuart had never thought his relationship with Gabrielle was worth discussing openly.

"Let's just say she's my girlfriend."

Abigail knew he was living with Gabrielle. He couldn't exactly say he was supporting Gabrielle financially; he didn't want to hurt Abigail.

Abigail let out a long sigh of relief.

"As long as you've figured things out, that's good. Stuart, I don't want you to hurt anyone."

Stuart laughed. "I won't. How could I become that kind of person?"

Hearing that, Abigail felt completely reassured.

"Who were you talking to?" Edward suddenly appeared, making Abigail jump. She playfully scolded, "Aren't you busy with work?"

They hadn't even had time to have lunch together, and now he suddenly showed up.

She suspected that "busy" was just an excuse Edward used to brush her off.

"Stuart?" Edward squinted.

"He already has a girlfriend," Abigail quickly said.

Edward glanced at her and then turned to leave.

Abigail, feeling helpless, stopped him before he stepped out the door. She hugged him from behind, pressing her cheek against his back. "I have you, and he has a girlfriend now. Please don't be so hostile towards him, okay? For my sake."

"You believe everything he says," Edward said coldly.

She couldn't help but laugh. "Stuart is living with Gabrielle. Doesn't that explain everything?"

Edward pried her hands off and turned to her seriously. "Abigail, you don't understand men at all."

Abigail was taken aback, and Edward walked away.

Sharp-eyed colleagues noticed that Edward's face was cold when he left Abigail's office.

They couldn't help but look towards the glass wall.

The door was open, and Abigail had her head down, looking upset.

Had they argued or broken up?

Having seen how Edward treated Abigail like a treasure, they didn't dare spread rumors.

Odette opened the chat window and thoughtfully messaged Mabel: [Mabel, are you making your move?]

Mabel was busy communicating with her lawyer, feeling overwhelmed. Seeing Odette's message, she frowned.

Odette continued, "Mr. Harrison came to see Abigail today. He looked really upset when he left."

Mabel immediately asked, "Are you sure?"

"I saw it with my own eyes. How could it be fake?" Feeling doubted, Odette was displeased.

The next second, she received a transfer from Mabel and immediately smiled. "Mabel, you have to keep it up. I'm counting on you."

"Don't talk nonsense." Mabel scolded, but she also smiled.

She had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.

It was past nine in the evening, and Edward hadn't come back. Abigail was alone upstairs.

Mabel walked in and asked with concern, "Abigail, is Mr. Harrison not coming back tonight?"

"He... he has something to do."

Seeing Abigail's troubled expression, Mabel felt more certain.

"Abigail, did you two have a fight? Do you want me to talk to Mr. Harrison?"

"There's no need."

"Abigail, it's tough for you, coming from such a different background than Mr. Harrison," Mabel said sympathetically.

Feeling touched, Abigail couldn't help but think of the past.

She smiled bitterly. "From the beginning, we were never a good match."

Hearing that, Mabel was overjoyed.

She had been waiting for this moment.

"Abigail, you should rest. I won't disturb you."

With that, Mabel stepped out, the door closing softly behind her. In a swift motion, she pulled out her phone, her heart racing as she replayed Abigail's words. She listened carefully, ensuring every syllable had been captured perfectly. Suppressing her excitement, she returned to her room.

In the early hours, Mabel, who had been listening intently, heard a noise at the door. She got out of bed and tiptoed out.

Edward was leaning back on the couch, his arm over his forehead, eyes closed.

As she drew closer, the sharp scent of alcohol hit her. Mabel felt more confident. "Mr. Harrison? Are you drunk?"

No response. Mabel moved closer. "Mr. Harrison? Can you hear me? It's cold in the living room. You should go to bed."

Still no response.

Mabel sat on the couch, slightly tilting her head. Her eyes traced Edward's handsome face, which was mostly obscured.

Such a wonderful man should be hers.

She leaned in, her heart fluttering, ready to melt into Edward's arms, only to be yanked back abruptly.

Startled, she turned to see Murray glaring at her, his face livid. "Miss Simpson, what are you doing!"

Mabel's mind worked quickly. "I saw Mr. Harrison sleeping here alone and was worried he'd catch a cold. I tried to help him upstairs, but he's too heavy, and I fell."

As she explained, Mabel rubbed her wrist and thigh, as if she had really fallen hard.

"What are you doing?" Abigail slowly descended the stairs, wearing pale yellow pajamas with a thin blanket over her shoulders.
