Chapter 69 Going to the Hospital Won't Work

At that moment, Carl was like a god to Vivienne. The sunlight hit his handsome, determined face just right. By the time Vivienne snapped out of it and tried to catch up with him, he was already gone.

From that moment on, Carl became Vivienne's lifelong obsession.

After that, Vivienne frequently searched obsessively around that alley for Carl, but found no clues. By a stroke of coincidence, she ran into Carl reading a book in the school library.

But as soon as Vivienne approached him, she saw him frown. The shadows on his book annoyed him, and he got up and left before she could even say a word.

Vivienne went to great lengths to find out who Carl was, but she never saw him again.

As for Carl, he didn't remember any of it. He had just heard someone calling for help in the alley and lent a hand, not even seeing Vivienne's face. And in the library, he didn't notice her at all. It was all just Vivienne's wishful thinking and obsession.

Daphne had to hit up Claire's studio in the morning for a quick meeting about a tricky issue. By the time they wrapped up, it was already 10 a.m. Team leader Scarlett ordered some small cakes and coffee.

It was rare to see Daphne there in person, so everyone had a lot to chat about.

But after just a few bites, Daphne winced in pain, gasping as a sharp pang shot through her stomach.

"Daphne, what's wrong? You look so pale!"

Scarlett quickly got up to help her.

Daphne thought for a moment. She had rushed out in the morning, forgot her medicine, and hadn't had breakfast. Eating these sweet things probably upset her stomach.

Daphne clutched her stomach, trembling all over.

Scarlett asked, "Do you have your medicine with you?"

She shook her head. It had been a while since her last episode, so she didn't carry her medicine anymore.

Daphne struggled to take out her phone, scrolled through her contacts, and finally landed on Carl's name.

In the middle of a meeting, Carl got the call and left in a hurry without a word, leaving a room full of confused executives.

Carl arrived in less than ten minutes, making a trip that usually took half an hour.

On the studio's sofa, Daphne lay pale, with beads of sweat on her forehead.

Carl frowned slightly and picked Daphne up.

The colleagues were equally confused and then started whispering. "Goodness, isn't he Carl, the CEO of the Ward Group?"

"And did you see that? He just rushed over and carried Daphne out of here! So daring and heroic!"

Once in the car, Carl adjusted the seat to a comfortable angle.

Seeing that he was heading to the hospital, Daphne quickly said, "Going to the hospital won't help. I didn't take my medicine this morning. Let's go home first."

With her firm tone, though reluctant, Carl still started the car towards North Bay.

He knew she was frail and needed to take some medication daily. But he had never seen her in such pain before; the last time was just a bit of stomach pain from some roughhousing.

After getting out of the car, Carl carried her in long strides towards the main building.

Seeing them at the door, Evelyn and Maya rushed out, looking worried.

"What happened?! Why does Mrs. Ward look so bad?" Evelyn asked, flustered. Maya quickly ran upstairs to the bedroom, found Daphne's medicine in a drawer, and brought it down.

Daphne lay steadily on the bed, and Evelyn handed her a cup of warm water.

"Daphne, take your medicine; you'll feel better."

"I'll do it," Carl said, propping Daphne up against himself. He took the medicine from Maya and fed it to Daphne, making sure she swallowed it before laying her back down.

On the way back, Carl had already called several renowned doctors. Seeing her face relax a bit, Carl finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He looked up at Maya. "How long has she been like this? I thought she was just a bit weak."

Maya pursed her lips, tears welling up in her eyes. "It's those bastards from the Johnson Family who did this to Daphne!"

Carl's eyes narrowed slightly; he hadn't expected there to be more to the story.

Maya sniffled and continued, "I wasn't with the Johnson Family back then, but Skylar told me everything. Daphne was not even ten years old when they poisoned her, nearly killing her."

"Do you know what kind of poison?" Carl asked seriously.

Maya shook her head. At that moment, the doctors arrived. With limited tools, they could only perform basic examinations. The initial diagnosis was acute gastroenteritis, related to Daphne's constitution.

After taking the medicine, Evelyn prepared a hot water bottle for Daphne's stomach, and she felt much better after half an hour.

That night, Daphne didn't sleep well. She seemed to have nightmares, got up to vomit twice, and only slept soundly for a few hours in the latter half of the night.

Carl stayed by her side, taking care of her. Seeing her in such pain, Carl felt a surge of anger.

The next morning, they spent the entire time at the hospital. Daphne wasn't as uncomfortable as the day before, just a bit weak, and fell into a deep sleep in the hospital room.

Some basic test results were sent to Carl's phone in the afternoon. It showed that some organs, especially the liver and kidneys, were damaged a bit, and other indicators were relatively normal.

Carl didn't even have time for lunch, and Ralph witnessed everything.

Just by looking at the dark circles under Carl's eyes, Ralph knew he hadn't rested well last night. This morning, Carl had been busy with Daphne's check-ups.

Although he was busy with work at the company, Carl had called Evelyn several times to check on Daphne.

This hospital was one of the most prestigious in Irvingport, but Carl was still worried and called Otis to explain the situation.

Otis contacted several highly authoritative doctors who immediately took the next flight to Irvingport.

Ralph understood Carl had truly fallen for Daphne.

Carl was still holding back from confessing. In the past, no woman could get close to him. Now, Carl's concern and anxiety for Daphne were evident in his actions. This feeling couldn't be faked.
