Chapter 222 A New Life, A New Promise

Looking at his bewildered expression, Sylvia suddenly found it amusing.

She leaned forward slightly, moving close to his ear. Her warm breath, carrying a hint of sweetness, brushed past his earlobe like a whisper in the wind.

"Henry," her voice was soft, yet it stirred up huge waves in his heart, "I'm pregnant."

Time seemed to freeze at that moment.

Inside the car, only the sound of waves hitting the shore remained, along with Henry's suddenly halted breathing.

His tall frame stiffened in place, those deep eyes locked onto her as if trying to read every inch of her expression. After a long while, he finally found his voice, terribly hoarse. "You... what did you say?"

"I tested it, several times." Meeting his shocked gaze, Sylvia's lips curved into a faint smile, carrying a tenderness and calmness she herself had not even noticed.

Overwhelming joy surged toward him like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing him.

Henry's mind went blank. All his reason and composure crumbled in that moment. He suddenly pulled Sylvia tightly into his embrace, as if afraid she might vanish, wanting to confirm this was not a dream too beautiful to be real.

His chest heaved violently, his heart pounding wildly in his ribcage, beating so hard it hurt.

Sylvia was held so tight she could barely breathe, but she did not struggle. She simply leaned quietly against him, letting him process this sudden, enormous surprise.

After a long while, Henry finally loosened his hold slightly. His eyes were remarkably bright, yet could not help but turn slightly red. He cupped her face, his fingertips gently caressing her delicate skin, his voice hoarse beyond recognition. "Sylvia, I..."

A thousand words stuck in his throat, ultimately turning into just a low call filled with suppressed emotion.

Watching him so excited he was almost losing composure, the shadow Garth had cast over her heart completely disappeared. She reached out and pinched his tense face, teasing, "Look at you, acting like you've never seen anything before."

But Henry ignored that. He suddenly released her, carefully bent down, and pressed his ear against her still-flat belly, his expression focused and reverent, as if listening to the sound of life.

Sylvia did not know whether to laugh or cry, her cheeks burning. She pushed his head. "Be serious! It's only six weeks, what can you possibly hear?"

Only then did Henry straighten up, wearing a silly grin. He pulled Sylvia back into his arms, this time with movements as gentle as if handling a priceless treasure.

He sighed contentedly, his chin resting on top of her head, his voice carrying undisguised joy. "I don't care, I heard it anyway."

Sylvia did not bother arguing. Leaning in his warm embrace, listening to his steady, strong heartbeat, she felt an unprecedented sense of peace.

However, beneath this peace lay a trace of worry.

She stroked her belly, her smile fading slightly, and asked softly, "Henry, do you think when this child is born, will we play favorites? Cecilia and Garth, they have already missed out on so much..."

Henry's heart tightened sharply. He immediately understood her concern. He cupped her face, forcing her to look at him, his expression more serious than ever before.

"No." He spoke each word clearly and firmly. "Sylvia, I swear to God, Cecilia and Garth, and this unborn child of ours—they will always be equally important in my heart."

He paused, a look of determination flashing in his eyes. "If you do not believe me, I will have the lawyer come over right now and redistribute my assets. What goes to Cecilia and Garth will be more, not less."

He would rather use the most practical way to eliminate all her concerns.

Warmth flooded Sylvia's heart. She shook her head, reached out to cover his mouth, her eyes filled with tenderness and trust that could not be dissolved. "I do not want your money, Henry. I just want you to be good to them, as good as before. That is enough."

Henry held her hand and pressed a precious kiss to it.

"Okay." He made a solemn promise.

The two embraced quietly for a moment. Henry seemed to remember something, glanced at his watch, and frowned slightly. "It is getting late, you need to go back and rest."

He helped Sylvia up and carefully escorted her back downstairs to where the medical room was located.

"What about you?" Sylvia stood at the stairway entrance, asking with some concern.

"I am staying." Henry's tone left no room for discussion.

"No!" Sylvia immediately refused. "This is Sapphire Sky Guild, John and the others will not let you off."

Henry ruffled her hair, his eyes carrying a reassuring smile. "Do not worry, I have my ways."

His way was simple and direct.

Henry called John and told him straight out that he was staying here to be with his wife and children.

John on the other end of the phone was silent for a full minute, so long that Henry thought he was going to bring people over for a fight, before he squeezed out a sentence through gritted teeth. "Just keep yourself in check and do not cause trouble."

So Henry brazenly stayed.

When Sylvia woke up in the early morning, the moment she opened her eyes, she met Henry's smiling gaze.

He was lying on his side next to her, one hand propping up his head, the other gently resting on her still-flat belly, his posture almost reverent.

"Morning, Mrs. Smith." He lowered his head and planted a kiss on her lips, his voice carrying the huskiness of just waking up, irresistibly intimate.

Sylvia's cheeks heated up. She glared at him and lowered her voice. "Why have you not left yet?"

"Not leaving." Henry answered matter-of-factly, stretching out his long arm to scoop her, blanket and all, into his embrace. His chin nuzzled the top of her head like a satisfied large feline. "My wife and child are both here, where would I go?"

This man's shamelessness really was unparalleled.

Sylvia could not be bothered to argue. Just as she was about to get up, the bedroom door was gently pushed open, and a small head poked through the crack.

Garth rubbed his sleepy eyes. Seeing the scene on the bed, he first froze, then those bright big eyes instantly lit up.

"Daddy!"

The little guy cheered and rushed over on his short legs, climbing onto the bed with hands and feet, diving headfirst into Henry's arms.

"Daddy, how did you get here!" Garth hugged Henry's neck, his little face full of delight. The fright from last night and the sadness of his sister leaving seemed to fade away the moment he saw Henry.
