Chapter 221 The Quiet Confession
Chapter 221 The Quiet Confession
Henry heard Lisa's words and let out a soft laugh, looking completely unconcerned.
He didn't take the so-called assassin seriously at all. He pulled Sylvia back into his arms, lowered his head to gently touch her nose, and held her close as though the world had faded away, saying with a hint of grievance in his voice, "Baby, I really missed you."
Lisa watched them in silence.
Looking at the couple in front of her radiating an intense romantic atmosphere, she felt like a third wheel.
She shivered, deliberately made an exaggerated disgusted face, then turned to leave.
As she walked away, she said, "I can't take this anymore, I'm leaving. You two take your time. I don't want to be stuck in your little love bubble at this hour."
Lisa's figure quickly disappeared into the night, leaving only the sound of waves crashing on the rocky beach and the breathing of the two people.
As the air grew quiet, Sylvia truly felt that Henry was standing right there in front of her, alive and real.
He looked exhausted, with obvious dark shadows under his eyes, clearly having rushed here without rest.
His eyes were deep, filled with undisguised heartache and lingering fear.
Everything that happened during the day, all the fear and anger she had forcibly suppressed, finally found an outlet the moment she saw him.
Sylvia's heart warmed, and her nose tingled.
She suddenly stood on her tiptoes, reached up to wrap her arms around his neck, and pressed her lips firmly against his.
This kiss had no hint of desire—it was more like a confirmation and comfort.
She was confirming he was safe and sound, and also soothing her own frightened heart.
Henry's body stiffened slightly, then he took control, cupping the back of her head and deepening the kiss.
The salty taste of the sea breeze mingled with the fresh scent of his breath, bringing her a sense of reassuring strength.
After a long while, he reluctantly released her, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice hoarse as he said, "I'm sorry, I failed to protect you and the child."
He was referring to Skylar's harassing phone call.
Just thinking about how Sylvia had to face such disgusting things after going through the terrifying night of Garth's disappearance made Henry wish he could fly back immediately and get rid of that woman once and for all.
Sylvia shook her head, raised her hand to gently stroke his tense face, her fingertips rubbing back and forth over the stubble on his jaw, saying, "That kind of petty trick, I didn't even take it seriously."
She was just shaken.
If something had really happened to Garth, she didn't dare imagine what she would become.
Her composure made Henry feel even more guilty.
He pulled her tight again, resting his chin on top of her head, asking in a muffled voice, "Are you hungry? I brought you food in the car."
Only then did Sylvia realize her stomach was empty. From last night until now, she had barely eaten anything. Now that he mentioned it, the hunger instantly surged up.
Henry took her hand and led her around the rocks to an SUV parked in a hidden spot.
He opened the car door and took out portions of still-steaming food from the insulated box on the passenger seat.
There was seafood chowder, buttered herb bread rolls, and several delicate desserts.
Sylvia didn't ask how he managed to get the car and all this food to the island. She took the warm bowl of chowder and began eating quickly.
She was really too hungry and too tired, completely without her usual elegance, eating like a starved little creature.
Henry sat quietly beside her without interrupting, just watching her with focused and gentle eyes.
Under the light, her cheeks puffed in and out, and she didn't even notice the bit of soup at the corner of her mouth.
He found her absolutely adorable, the soft place in his heart filled to the brim.
He reached out and gently wiped away the soup at the corner of her mouth with his fingertip, the affection in his eyes almost overflowing, teasing in a low voice, "Slow down, no one's competing with you, greedy little thing."
Sylvia's cheeks warmed slightly, and her eating finally slowed down.
After the quick meal, Sylvia felt she had regained her strength.
She let out a satisfied breath, wiped her mouth with a napkin, then said directly, "I'm full, you can go now."
The smile on Henry's face instantly froze.
He couldn't believe this woman was telling him to leave right after eating, feeling a tightness in his chest.
He had rushed here in the middle of the night, risking being attacked by Sapphire Sky Guild members, just to see her, and she was telling him to leave after finishing her food?
Henry's expression instantly turned serious, his tone accusatory, "Sylvia, you're being too heartless."
Sylvia was taken aback by his words, both annoyed and amused as she pushed him, saying, "Don't talk nonsense, this is Sapphire Sky Guild's territory, it's not safe for you to stay long."
Henry stubbornly said, "I'm not leaving." He reached out with his long arm to pull her back into his embrace, his breath hot against her ear, his voice both suggestive and low, "You're full, but I'm not satisfied yet."
As he spoke, his lips began moving down from her earlobe, stopping at the sensitive side of her neck.
Sylvia's body instantly tensed, a familiar tremor shooting up her spine. She pressed down on his hand at her waist, her voice carrying a warning, "Henry, stop it, we can't."
Henry asked with dissatisfaction, "Why not? I haven't touched you in days."
Like a large dog begging for treats, he gently kissed her lips, his voice very low, "Just a kiss, okay?"
Sylvia was worn down by his persistence and felt her resolve weakening, but thinking of something else, she still shook her head in refusal.
Seeing she wouldn't agree, Henry's patience ran out. He grabbed her wrists and raised them above her head, his other hand slipping under her clothes, covering that warm skin.
"Henry!" she called out urgently.
"No." She took a deep breath, locked eyes with him, and said slowly, "Our baby wouldn't approve."
Henry's movements stopped, his mind going blank.
He looked at her, brows slightly furrowed, clearly not understanding what she meant, "The child? Garth's asleep, how would he not allow it?"
Sylvia looked at his confused expression and found it amusing. She didn't explain, just pulled his hand that was resting on her abdomen and gently pressed it there.
The night was deep, and the car was so quiet only heartbeats could be heard.
Henry's body froze. He felt the soft skin under his palm, and his own heart beating wildly because of her words.
