Chapter 220 The Midnight Arrival
Chapter 220 The Midnight Arrival
Henry put down his phone, his entire presence exuding a cold, oppressive aura.
He immediately ordered Evan, "Arrange the fastest flight. Prepare for takeoff. I'm going to Sapphire Sky Guild's island."
After hanging up, Sylvia felt completely drained of energy.
She returned to the bed and gently held her sleeping son in her arms. Feeling his warmth and steady breathing, her chaotic heart gradually calmed.
She didn't know how long it took before she slowly drifted off to sleep.
However, this sleep was far from peaceful. It felt like she had just closed her eyes when her phone on the nightstand began ringing urgently, over and over, like a relentless alarm.
Sylvia's nerves were already on edge, and now this ringing completely destroyed what little patience she had left.
She sat up abruptly, grabbed her phone, and without checking the caller ID, shouted angrily into it.
"Enough! Are you trying to make me completely lose it?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then a familiar, deep voice came through, carrying a hint of grievance and caution.
"Sylvia... it's me."
Henry's voice came through the receiver, sounding tentative.
Sylvia's anger froze. Just as she was about to demand what was wrong, she heard him add another sentence.
"I'm on the island."
Sylvia's mind went blank.
What did he say?
He's on the island?
Her exhaustion and anger vanished in that moment, replaced only by an impulse to see him immediately.
She almost instinctively headed for the door, but stopped just as she reached it.
This was Sapphire Sky Guild's territory. Henry's identity was sensitive. If he just barged in like this, it could cause trouble.
Sylvia suppressed her urgency, walked quietly to the bedside, adjusted the blanket for the sleeping Garth, then put on her coat and quietly left the medical room.
The night was deep, the corridor lights dim, and her footsteps echoed in the empty space.
Just as she turned a corner, a petite figure suddenly appeared from the side, nearly colliding with her.
"Sylvia!" Lisa lowered her voice, her face full of surprise and concern. "It's so late, and you haven't recovered yet. Where are you going?"
Sylvia's heart tightened slightly, but her face remained calm as she said casually, "Couldn't sleep. Going out for a walk."
"I'll come with you!" Lisa immediately linked arms with her, looking like it was the most natural thing. "You're a key person under protection right now, and you're pregnant. What if something happens?"
Her words warmed Sylvia's heart, though she also felt a bit helpless.
Seeing she couldn't shake her off, Sylvia could only compromise. She leaned close to Lisa's ear and whispered, "Zachary's here. I'm going to see him."
She specifically instructed, "Don't spread it around."
"Zachary?" Lisa's eyes instantly lit up with intense curiosity. "The one with a bounty worth nine figures who's being hunted? Your husband?"
Sylvia nodded helplessly.
"Then I definitely have to go see!" Lisa's interest peaked. She patted her chest with a confident look. "Don't worry, Sylvia, I won't tell anyone."
Sylvia looked at those eyes clearly screaming "I want to see the drama" and felt a headache coming on.
The two of them used the cover of night to avoid the patrol guards and quickly reached a secluded rocky beach at the island's edge.
The sea wind howled. A tall, upright figure stood with his back to them, facing the wind.
He wore a black trench coat, its hem fluttering in the sea breeze. Just his silhouette radiated coldness and power.
Hearing footsteps, he whipped around, his eyes filled with wariness and impatience, but the moment he saw it was Sylvia, all that sharpness vanished, transforming into intense longing and concern.
"You came." Henry strode forward and pulled her tightly into his embrace, holding her as if he never wanted to let go.
He carried the night's chill and the dust of travel, but this familiar embrace finally settled Sylvia's heart, which had been anxious all night.
"Wow." Lisa couldn't help but let out a soft sigh. She openly looked Henry up and down, her eyes full of approval.
She moved closer to Sylvia, nudging her with her elbow, and whispered, "Sylvia, you have great taste. This man has a strong presence."
This straightforward compliment pleased Henry greatly. He tightened his arm around Sylvia, the corners of his lips curving up slightly.
He released Sylvia, his gaze falling on Lisa. He nodded politely, then said in a tone that brooked no refusal, "Give me your bank information."
"Huh?" Lisa was stunned.
Henry didn't give her time to react, directly pulling out his phone and opening the transfer page.
Sylvia watched from the side, amused, and pushed him. "What are you doing?"
"A welcome gift," Henry said matter-of-factly.
Only then did Lisa understand. She quickly waved her hands. "No need, no need. We're all on the same side. You're being too polite."
Henry raised an eyebrow, saying nothing, just looking at her. That gaze was calm yet carried invisible pressure, making it impossible to refuse.
Under his stare, Lisa felt her scalp tingle. Finally, she could only recite a string of numbers.
The next second, her phone chimed with a notification.
[Your account has received: $500,000.]
Looking at that long string of digits, Lisa gasped, her eyes wide. After a long moment, she found her voice and looked at Henry in shock. "You're incredibly generous."
Sylvia was amused by her reaction and glanced at Lisa sideways. "Since he gave you money, when we get back, you have to treat us to a big meal."
"No problem!" Lisa immediately agreed, then realized something was off and said with a bitter face, "Sylvia, you're using my money to treat yourself."
The atmosphere among the three lightened considerably.
After the laughter subsided, Lisa's expression turned serious again. She looked at Henry with concern. "By the way, I heard someone from Coffin Organization took the contract to assassinate you. The fee is nine figures. You need to be careful."
