Chapter 194 Embrace Under the Night Sky

Chapter 194 Embrace Under the Night Sky

The sweet, creamy taste mixed with the fresh flavor of fruit instantly filled Lawrence's mouth.

"Not bad at all," he thought. "Whoever picked out this cake has great taste."

Hazel rolled her eyes, a bit exasperated. "I've never heard anyone brag about themselves like that."

As they continued their drive, the conversation shifted to other topics. Occasionally, Jason, who was driving, would chime in, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere in the car.

Back at Emerald Heights Estate, after dinner, Hazel was eager to find out what Garth had told Lawrence.

"Want to go for a walk, Hazel?" Lawrence suggested, seeing right through her curiosity, a smile in his eyes.

Hazel quickly understood and wheeled Lawrence outside for a stroll in the garden.

The alligator in the backyard had already retreated to the water to sleep. They walked by its enclosure.

"Okay, spill it. What did Garth say?" Hazel asked, breaking the silence. Lawrence nodded, his face suddenly clouded with a mix of bitterness and sorrow, more pronounced in the quiet night.

"He told me that my parents didn't die in a car accident. They were given hallucinogenic drugs, which caused them to have illusions and led to their deaths," Lawrence said slowly.

Hazel's eyes widened in shock. "What? So that's what really happened back then?"

No wonder their bodies were quickly cremated without an autopsy. It was likely to hide the fact that they had been drugged.

Hazel looked at Lawrence with concern. "Do you know who did it?"

A cold glint flashed across Lawrence's face. "It was Gerald and his people."

Lawrence's expression turned vulnerable, making Hazel's heart ache. She had somewhat expected this answer.

She knelt in front of him, hugging him silently, offering comfort without words.

"We will make those who killed your parents pay," Hazel said softly after a while.

Lawrence gently patted her back, as if he were the one comforting her. "We will."

The night grew colder with a gentle breeze. They didn't stay outside much longer and went back inside to their room.

That night, Lawrence didn't go to his study to work. After washing up, he lay in bed reading a book.

Hazel, fresh from her shower, glanced at him. "What are you reading, honey?" she asked, trying to start a conversation.

Lawrence looked up and told her the title. After finishing her skincare routine, Hazel joined him in bed.

That night, both had their own thoughts weighing on their minds.

The next morning, Hazel noticed Jason was missing from the estate. During breakfast, she asked about it.

"Jason's handling something for me. He'll be away for a couple of days," Lawrence explained.

As the long-time bodyguard and driver at Emerald Heights Estate, his absence felt unusual to Hazel.

She had a hunch that Jason's task was related to Lawrence's parents' deaths. "Okay," she replied.

After breakfast, a new driver took Lawrence to work. Hazel, having the day off, went back upstairs for a beauty nap.

She woke up close to noon to a call from Kelly. "Are you awake? Come shopping with me," Kelly's voice sounded tired over the phone, and Hazel sensed something was off.

"Kelly, is something wrong?" Hazel asked.

Kelly hesitated before replying, "I just didn't sleep well. It's noisy outside, and I can't rest."

Whether true or not, Hazel decided not to press further. "Alright, are you coming here, or should I meet you?"

"I'll come to Emerald Heights Estate. Your husband isn't home, right?" Kelly asked.

Hazel chuckled, "He's not. Come on over."

After hanging up, Kelly headed to the estate. Hazel went downstairs and saw Nellie and Kaila returning.

"Mrs. Johnson, we're back!" they called, carrying large bags. They had taken leave to visit a sick relative and seemed to have brought back some goodies.

Hazel smiled, "Looks like you had a good time. Kaila, you seem to have gained a bit."

Kaila blushed, "Mrs. Johnson, please don't tease me."

Nellie chimed in, "We brought some local specialties for you to try."

"You're so sweet! But you didn't have to bring so much," Hazel said, appreciating their gesture.

Soon, Kelly arrived, and Nellie went to open the door. "Ms. Ross," she greeted.

"Nellie, long time no see," Kelly replied, following her inside.

In the garden, Hazel was feeding the alligator. With Jason away, the task fell to her.

"Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Ross is here," Nellie announced.

"Hey, Hazel, what are you doing?" Kelly asked, her eyes widening at the sight of the alligator.
