Chapter 195: Susan's Provocation
"Oh my God!"
Kelly's heart pounded as she stared at the creature. Who would keep something like this?
Hazel noticed Kelly's reaction and smirked. "Relax, it's not mine. It's Lawrence's. Don't worry, it won't get out."
She remembered how terrified she had been the first time she saw it. But over time, she got used to it.
After watching for a while, Kelly realized it was actually quite gentle and mustered up some courage.
"Can I try feeding it?"
Kelly asked hesitantly. Hazel nodded and handed her the feeding tongs, showing her how to do it.
With bodyguards standing by, Kelly fed the creature some meat through the glass enclosure. By the time she emptied the bucket, she was feeling quite exhilarated.
Hazel couldn't help but laugh. "Weren't you just scared a minute ago?"
Kelly's face lit up with excitement. "Not anymore. I'm good now."
Handing the empty bucket to a bodyguard, Kelly and Hazel went inside the house.
A servant noticed the guest and brought Kelly some fruit.
"Hang out here for a bit. I'm going upstairs to change, and then we can head out."
Hazel said before heading upstairs. While changing, she called Lawrence.
Lawrence answered quickly. "Hey, Hazel. What's up?"
"Kelly's here. We're planning to go out for a bit."
Lawrence's voice softened with a hint of amusement. "Alright, have fun. Take Nellie and Kaila with you for protection. There's a document in the study marked with the number 7. Someone will come by to pick it up soon. Can you hand it over for me?"
Hazel paused for a moment. "Who's coming?"
"Susan. I prepared that document specifically for her. The fish is about to bite."
Hazel understood immediately. Hazel understood immediately. Recently, Susan had been cozying up to Lawrence more frequently, especially during their silent treatment. Lawrence had mentioned yesterday that Susan had been subtly probing about some important matters related to the Johnson Group.
It seemed Robert was putting considerable pressure on her from overseas.
Otherwise, she wouldn't be so desperate.
"Got it. I'll make sure she thinks she's about to succeed."
Hazel said with a meaningful tone. After changing, she went to the study to retrieve the document Lawrence mentioned.
In the living room, Kelly was sitting on the couch, enjoying some fruit.
"Hazel, what's that in your hand?"
Kelly asked, noticing the document Hazel was holding.
"It's Lawrence's document. Someone will be here to pick it up soon."
As Hazel finished speaking, the doorbell rang.
A bodyguard entered. "Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Knight is outside, asking for you."
Hazel nodded. "Got it. I'll be right out."
Kelly's eyes widened slightly. "Susan? What does she want? It can't be anything good. I'll go with you."
If Susan tried anything against Hazel, having an extra person would be helpful.
At the front door, Susan was waiting. After a few minutes, the door opened.
Hazel and Kelly stepped out. Susan faced them. "Hazel, Lawrence asked me to pick up a document."
Her tone carried a hint of smugness.
Hazel smiled insincerely at her. "Ms. Knight, you must be working hard. Anyone would think you're my husband's personal secretary. What, the Johnson Group doesn't have anyone else? He trusts you, an outsider, to pick up his documents?"
Susan's face blushed with embarrassment.
But she quickly composed herself.
Susan brushed her long hair and said, "Hazel, you didn't grow up with Lawrence, so you wouldn't understand our childhood bond. If I were you, I'd leave sooner rather than later. You and Lawrence are from different worlds."
Susan's repeated use of Lawrence's name was clearly meant to irritate Hazel.
Kelly sneered. "Ms. Knight, are you Lawrence's mistress? Hazel is the legal Mrs. Johnson, recognized by law. Do you know what your behavior is called? It's called being a homewrecker, Ms. Knight."
Kelly's words cut deep, intended to humiliate Susan, and she could feel her cheeks burning in response.
"How dare you!"
Susan pointed at Kelly, ready to retort, but Hazel stepped forward.
"Ms. Knight, aren't you here to pick up your Lawrence's document? Here it is. Better hurry to the Johnson Group. Wouldn't want to delay anything."
Reminded by Hazel, Susan suppressed her anger, took the document, and left.
Watching her retreating figure, Kelly glanced at Hazel in surprise. "Hazel, you didn't seem genuinely angry just now!"
Having been friends with Hazel for so long, Kelly could tell when Hazel was truly upset.
Hazel turned to her. "Why should I be angry? Doesn't Susan look like a clown right now? Don't worry, her comeuppance is coming soon."
Kelly's mind suddenly clicked.
She got it!
"You and Lawrence set a trap for her. That's so sneaky. Susan's being played and doesn't even know it!"
"Exactly. Just keep it to yourself."
At the Johnson Group, Susan went straight to the office with the document.
"Lawrence, I got the document for you."
Behind his desk, Lawrence was working diligently. Susan couldn't help but stare, mesmerized.
Only a man as handsome as Lawrence could be worthy of her.
She believed it wouldn't be long before she won him over.
"Thanks. Just leave it on the desk."
Lawrence didn't look up, his tone indifferent. After a while, he noticed Susan was still in the office and raised an eyebrow.
"Ms. Knight, is there something else?"
"Lawrence, does Hazel have some misunderstanding about me? She seems to dislike me, even though I was just helping you with a document."
Susan spoke with a hint of grievance. Lawrence paused his writing.
"That's my oversight. I won't ask you to pick up documents anymore."
He put down his work and wheeled himself towards the safe with the document.
