Chapter 31 CHAPTER 31

Chapter 31 CHAPTER 31
EMILIA

That evening at Vindeigo’s mansion, the wind ruffled through my hair as I stared outside the window. I was still wrapped in the leather jacket Rosa had given to me.

Oh God, I miss her. I don’t think she would have encouraged me to come along with Andrea if she knew he was going to cause me harm.

Not like she could have had any say if that was his aim, but she would have at least warned me.

Agnes, Lucy, Lady Katalina—they would all be surprised having to wake up today and not see me… I just pray Michelle gets off their hairs for the time being.

Yeah. Talking about that mini witch, was she aware Andrea was leaving for China with me? Oh, how disappointed she must have been. I mean, she had been raving about that trip to almost everything that had ears.

“Don’t you think it’s a little impolite to leave your husband and go wandering with our host, wifey?”

His voice snapped me out of my thoughts as a low sigh escaped my lips.

“You can drop the crap, Mr. Andrea,” I hissed, turning to face him. “Save your cards for next time.”

His grey orbs narrowed as he strode toward me. I gulped unconsciously as I shifted my gaze to the white bag that had been lying lazily on the bed.

Vindeigo’s earlier words came rushing in… “Any woman who could marry Andrea shouldn’t be scared of anything…”

But why exactly? Wasn’t it one of human’s traits to be afraid?

“What did you discuss with him?”

I heard Andrea’s question in a blur. “Huh?”

He sighed, his eyes closed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Don’t test my patience, wifey.”

I ignored him as I walked toward the bed. “I’m tired… I want to get some rest.”

He chuckled darkly. “You walked all through the garden for over two hours, and you didn’t seem like one who needed rest as you giggled and threw your head at every word he said… and now you need rest just to answer a simple question?”

Wait? Was Andrea spying on us?

I let my ass settle into the soft bed as I pulled off my boots. Don’t ask me how I got into them; I also don’t remember. “Vindeigo must be your friend… ask him yourself.”

Andrea’s orbs pierced through my soul, but he said nothing. Until—“Have some shame,” he blurted. “Your stripper tactics wouldn’t work on just anybody.”

My nails dug into my palms as my jaw clenched. “Yes, I have shame, and that’s why I’m not in his bed this moment.”

He threw his head back in laughter. “How dumb of you to think someone like Vindeigo would fancy you enough to be in his—”

“Well, he does,” I interrupted, my voice louder than I expected. “And I bet the only thing stopping him is the fact that I’m married to you.”

He smirked, brushing his hair with one of his hands as he shook his head as if in disbelief of my guts. “You’re not all that,” he snarled.

“Exactly my thoughts about you,” I shot back, folding my arms defensively. “And I will advise you get off your high horse.”

His eyes widened at my last statement, but I wasn’t ready to take back anything.

I didn’t hear him move or say a word for the next few minutes, and when it got uncomfortable, I turned to check if he was still in the room. But before my face could swing fully, I felt his weight slightly pressed against mine as his hands pinned mine down, his sand-brown hair falling to his face.

I had noticed anytime I was in this position with Andrea… It was as if I was going to experience a cardiac arrest.

A smirk appeared on his face as he leaned closer, our noses almost touching. “What did you say about me not being all that?” he asked, his voice deep and hungry with need.

Air snapped in my throat as I forgot how to breathe. “Y-you are not all that,” I mumbled, my words overlapping.

“Look me in the eyes and say that,” he added, his voice teasing my senses.

His voice was intoxicating, and his scent did little to help.

“I’m waiting… I want to see your blue eyes when you say it,” he added. “Only then will I believe you.”

“Ahem,” a slightly amused voice cut through the air, making me snap my eyes open, facing the direction of the door. But Andrea held me unmoving, his eyes flashing with anger as he turned toward the door as if to say… ‘Who dares interrupt him?’

“The door was open,” Mr. Vindeigo said in his defense as he walked in, still wearing a smile on his face.

Andrea let go of me slowly as he adjusted himself on the bed, while I tried to fix my hair and look away, my cheeks flushing pink from embarrassment.

“Oh, don’t be shy,” Vindeigo noted. “New couple rush—it happens.”

I didn’t respond as I looked away.

“Don, I guess there’s a good reason you must have interrupted an intimate moment I was sharing with my wife?” Andrea’s voice was sharp, lacking any emotion.

I had actually thought Vindeigo held a higher position than Andrea, but Andrea’s tone told me otherwise—or was he just that fearless?

“My bad,” Vindeigo said, though he didn’t look sorry. “I just wanted to check up on my guest and ask if the room was to your liking.”

“We aren’t sharing the same room, are we?” I thought out loud.

“Of course you are. How else do married couples live?” I gulped at his words as I tightened my hand around the coat I wore.

“Or would you like—”

“She was only joking, Don,” Andrea smiled.

“I will leave you two then… I have other guests to attend to,” Vindeigo said, already walking away. “Dinner would be served in an hour. Please get dressed before then.”

Moments after he left, Andrea got up as well. “Get dressed… Don’t come out looking funny in the presence of other guests,” he said, dashing out of the room.

Funny. Me looking funny. Wow—just wow, I hissed, kicking the white bag to the floor. Just then, I saw a golden item slide from it and break into two.

Colour drained from my face as I tried to replay what had just happened. I stared at the broken item with shock on my face.

For a moment, I wished it was my leg that broke.
